Prayer Board (9 am) & Prayer Sheets (10:45 am)
Opening Prayer Pastor – O Lord, our Maker, Redeemer and Comforter, we
are assembled in Your presence to hear Your holy Word. We
ask You to open our hearts by Your Holy Spirit, so that
through the preaching of Your Word we may be taught to
repent of our sins, to believe on Jesus in life and in death,
and to grow day by day in grace and holiness. Hear us for
Christ’s sake. Amen.
Holy Cross Pre-School and Kindergarten Sings
Confession of Sins Pastor - We have come into the presence
of God, who created us to love and serve
Him as His dear children. But we have
disobeyed Him and deserve only His wrath
and punishment. Therefore, let us confess
our sins to Him and plead for His mercy.
ALL - MERCIFUL FATHER IN HEAVEN, I AM ALTOGETHER SINFUL
FROM BIRTH. IN COUNTLESS WAYS I HAVE SINNED AGAINST
YOU AND DO NOT DESERVE TO BE CALLED YOUR CHILD. BUT
TRUSTING IN JESUS, MY SAVIOR, I PRAY: HAVE MERCY ON ME
ACCORDING TO YOUR UNFAILING LOVE. CLEANSE ME FROM
MY SIN AND TAKE AWAY MY GUILT.
Forgiveness of Our Sins Pastor - God, our Heavenly Father,
has forgiven all your sins. By the
perfect life and innocent death of our
Lord Jesus Christ He has removed your
guilt forever. You are His dear
children. Amen.
Prayer Pastor – Heavenly Father, You are almighty, all-powerful, and
the definition of love. There is no one greater than You. We
often, unfortunately, lose sight of who You are. We doubt
how powerful You are. We question Your love. We act as if
You are distant and detached. Lord,
forgive us for our blindness and our
forgetfulness. Send the Holy Spirit to
work in our hearts so that we always
see You as You really are and see
Jesus for who He is: Your Son,
almighty, all-powerful, and the
definition of love. It’s in His name that
we pray, Amen.
We learn from the Scriptures 1 Corinthians 15:54-57 When the perishable has been clothed with the
imperishable, and the mortal with immortality, then the
saying that is written will come true: “Death has been
swallowed up in victory.” 55 “Where, O death, is your victory?
Where, O death, is your sting?” 56 The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the
law. 57 But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through
our Lord Jesus Christ.
Mark 9:2-13 After six days Jesus took Peter, James and John with him
and led them up a high mountain, where they were all
alone. There he was transfigured before them. 3 His clothes
became dazzling white, whiter than anyone in the world
could bleach them. 4 And there appeared before them
Elijah and Moses, who were talking with Jesus.
5 Peter said to Jesus, “Rabbi, it is good for us to be here. Let
us put up three shelters - one for you, one for Moses and one
for Elijah.” 6 (He did not know what to say, they were so
frightened.)
7 Then a cloud appeared and enveloped them, and a
voice came from the cloud: “This is my Son, whom I love.
Listen to him!”
8 Suddenly, when they looked around, they no longer saw
anyone with them except Jesus.
9 As they were coming down the mountain, Jesus gave
them orders not to tell anyone what they had seen until the
Son of Man had risen from the dead. 10 They kept the matter
to themselves, discussing what “rising from the dead”
meant.
11 And they asked him, “Why do the teachers of the law
say that Elijah must come first?”
12 Jesus replied, “To be sure, Elijah does come first, and
restores all things. Why then is it written that the Son of
Manmust suffer much and be rejected? 13 But I tell you, Elijah
has come, and they have done to him everything they
wished, just as it is written about him.”
Confession of Faith (Nicene Creed) I believe in one God, the Father Almighty,
Maker of heaven and earth and of all things visible and
invisible.
And in one Lord Jesus Christ,
the only-begotten Son of God,
Begotten of His Father before all worlds,
God of God, Light of Light,
Very God of Very God,
Begotten, not made;
Being of one substance with the Father,
By Whom all things were made;
Who for us men and for our salvation came down from
heaven and was incarnate by the Holy Spirit of the
Virgin Mary, and was made man;
and was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate.
He suffered and was buried;
and the third day He rose again according to the
Scriptures;
and ascended into heaven,
and is seated at the right hand of the Father;
And He shall come again with glory to judge both the
living and the dead;
Whose kingdom shall have no end.
And I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the Lord and Giver of life,
Who proceeds from the Father and the Son,
Who with the Father and the Son together is worshiped
and glorified,
Who spoke by the prophets.
And I believe in one holy, Christian and Apostolic
Church,
I acknowledge one Baptism for the remission of sins,
And I look for the resurrection of the dead and the Life
of the world to come.
Amen.
Sermon
“God: Revealed” Luke 7:11-17 Soon afterward, Jesus went to a town called Nain, and his
disciples and a large crowd went along with him. 12 As he
approached the town gate, a dead person was being
carried out - the only son of his mother, and she was a
widow. And a large crowd from the town was with
her. 13 When the Lord saw her, his heart went out to her and
he said, “Don’t cry.” 14 Then he went up and touched the coffin, and those
carrying it stood still. He said, “Young man, I say to you, get
up!” 15 The dead man sat up and began to talk, and Jesus
gave him back to his mother. 16 They were all filled with awe and praised God. “A great
prophet has appeared among us,” they said. “God has
come to help his people.” 17 This news about Jesus spread
throughout Judea and the surrounding country.
Prayer & Lord’s Prayer Our Father, who art in heaven,
Hallowed be Thy name;
Thy kingdom come;
Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven;
Give us this day our daily bread;
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us;
And lead us not into temptation;
But deliver us from evil;
For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory
forever and ever. Amen.
Gathering of the Thank-Offerings & Tithes
Celebrating the Lord’s Supper Please come forward as the usher directs.
Communion is offered in both forms, common and
individual cup. If you want to use common cup,
do not take an individual cup as it is offered and
Pastor will come back to you with the common
cup. Those using individual cups please place the
empty cups in the baskets when you are
dismissed.
If you have never communed at Abiding Shepherd
before, please take time to read through the Lord’s Supper
insert before communing. If you have any questions about
these articles of faith or have been taught differently about
the use of the Lord’s Supper, please speak to a pastor
before taking communion.
We Give Thanks to God Pastor - O living Bread from heaven, how richly
You have fed Your guests! These gifts which You
have given have filled our hearts with joy and
rest. Wonderful food of blessing, the cup that
heals our woes! Our hearts these gifts
possessing, thanks and praise overflows. For while my faith
within me was livened by this food, My soul has looked upon
Thee, my loving Lord and God. Amen.
God blesses us
Closing Hymn (next page)
Closing Prayer Pastor - Lord, we offer to You our heartfelt thanks that You
have taught us what You would have us believe and do.
Help us, O God, by Your Holy Spirit, for the sake of Jesus
Christ, to keep Your Word in pure hearts, for through it our
faith is strengthened, our lives renewed, and we are
comforted in life and in death. Amen.

LENTEN WORSHIP SERIES
Ash Wednesday, February 13
Lenten Supper, 6:00 pm
Worship, 7:00 pm
This year’s Lenten study will focus on
the words Jesus spoke to His disciples
in Luke 18:31 –
“We are going up to Jerusalem,
and everything that is written by the
prophets about the Son of Man will be fulfilled.”
Our study is entitled: “Passion Prophecies” - an in-depth
look at some of the exact details God gave, hundreds
of years in advance, about how the Messiah would die.
Our study is not intended to convince us of the truth
that God already shares with us from His holy Word. We
believe these things by faith. But you are encouraged
to attend the special Lenten services as a means to
witness the great care and love God invested into His
plan to save you.
Please sign up on the bulletin board for the evenings
you plan to attend the Lenten suppers.
