Endoscopy has been developing in the last century. We have modified every single aspect of our instruments to reduce operative time, to improve safety and achieve better functional results for the patient.

Especially in the last two decades instruments experienced dramatic improvements. We have now switched from monopolar resectoscopes to bipolar instruments which allow us to cut in a smooth and precise way. We are using HD monitors and enhance and sharpen endoscopic vision by different means (e.g. ImagE1 S™, blue light..)

KARL STORZ’s urologic endoscopy “armamentarium” has recently been augmented by the introduction of an outstanding generator, the AuTOcOn® III 400. The combination of this powerful generator and the presence of every kind of loop gives us the opportunity to perform every kind of bipolar procedure.

The question, in my opinion, is no longer whether bipolar outperforms monopolar, since this becomes intuitive after a few minutes of an endoscopic bipolar procedure.

The real question is which bipolar procedure to choose in the treatment of bladder cancer or the treatment of BPO.

Is conventional TuRB, the gold standard for decades, still the only option we have as standard technique for non-muscle invasive bladder cancer? Is bipolar TuRP the only way to go in the treatment of BPO, in every patient? Minimally invasive endoscopic solutions have been our “credo” for years. We believe that this goal to solve endoscopic problems in the most efficient way by minimizing complications is now gaining in reality.

During this practice-oriented workshop, we will discuss indications and the safe use of currently available endoscopic techniques. You will have the opportunity to expand your experience through interactive participation in the operating room. The small group size will enable us to provide individualized tutoring matched to your prior experience.

On the evening before the workshop we will discuss basic principles, indications, results, surgical techniques and device information for the planned endoscopic procedures.
