Whereas files are a single document, a folder can contain several files as well as other folders (sub-folders). For example, you might have several documents on your computer related to your home finances. A good idea would be to create a folder called Home Finances. Within this folder might be 3 sub-folders: Bills, Budgets, and Taxes. Within any of these folders there might be several files like a personal budget for 2012, 2013, and 2014. 4

Opening a Folder: Desktop

Double-click on the folder icon on your desktop OrRight Click on the folder and select Open from the menu

Select file or folder from the window you want to open

Select device from Devices and Drives

Double-click to open appropriate device(DVD, USB)

Type Notepad

Notepad document opens

Creating a New File: Saving a FileFile Menu > Save AsClick on Documents in My ComputerType My Notepad in File NameClick Save

Renaming Files and Folders

Right-click folder you wish to rename

Select Rename

Type new name

Deleting FilesFiles that are no longer needed can be removed from your computer

Open the Folder that contains the file

Select the File

Press Delete on your keyboard

Recycle Bin stores deleted files temporarily
