WIOA REGION 1The WIOA Program initiative is to provide

education, training and employment opportunities for individuals in

Northwest Georgia.

NWGRC WIOA is in a 15 county area

The goal of WIOA is to assist people seeking employment, training and

education services

Potential participants will have access to training that will help with obtaining marketable skills that will enable the individual to become a competitive

jobseeker.

Our training programs have been designed to meet the needs of discouraged workers, unemployed or underemployed individuals, and dislocated workers who have lost their jobs

through layoff or business closures.

Our Career Counselors assess customers while they are in training as well as pre and post training. They administer

interest and career assessments and provide career counseling, educational counseling, job coaching and post-employment assistance for up to one year after completing

their program of study or ending training.

Training is available at schools and colleges throughout Northwest

Georgia and surrounding regions. or

On-the-job (OJT) training program in whichindividuals can receive occupational training by

area businesses.

The Mobile Career Resource Center is a 13-station state of the art fully accessible computer lab. The unit offers a full array of services. Internet connection is via satellite. Printer, scanner, and copy services are available on the unit. A fully accessible ADA workstation is available adjacent to the Wheelchair Lift

OJT is training for an occupation while on an employer’s payroll. The employer may be in either the

private or public sector. Trainees are engaged in productive work and gain knowledge and skills essential to performance of the job for which (s)he is being trained. OJT trainees who

successfully complete all training requirements will remain on the employer’s payroll.

Local Department of Labor Career Centers have staff who work with individuals and businesses to develop OJT agreements.

The Out of School Youth program provides opportunities for youth 16 to 24 who have dropped out of school or for youth who need

additional education or work related assistance.

Young workers aged 18+ who meet the qualifications for being classified as Dislocated Workers may also be eligible to participate in

on-the-job training which is also discussed above.

Youth 16 – 24 who have dropped out of high school can obtain their GEDs. While in the GED program, they receive other specialized

services that will help them go on to further career training or to find employment.
