Raw Material Treatment

Polymers and natural fibres:

Raw materials for wood plastic composites

Defined and stable raw material quality is required. Raw material suppliers providing extrudablegrades are available worldwide. Typical processing steps include grinding, sieving or drying totransform wood waste into extrusion grades.

Material Preparation

Raw materials can be either compounded, agglomerated or cold mixed prior to extrusion. Latestdevelopments - the direct extrusion process - tend to leave out this step of materials preparation,an important point when considering production costs. Through its modularity the fiberexT extru-der series is able to cope with all options - that’s what makes it unique!

Tooling and Downstream

Extrusion tooling and downstream: shaping the geometry, calibration, cooling and cutting. Various technologies are available depending on formulation and system partners.

Direct Extrusion

Direct extrusion allows the processing of the raw ma-terials „directly“. Cincinnati has developed an integrated system that al-lows to direct processing of up to 6 components oncounter rotating machines. Whether direct extrusionis applicable or not, depends on the quality of the rawmaterials, the formulation and the dispersion require-ment of the end product.

Compounding on fiberexT

The fiberexT extruder series can be modified within afew steps for the compounding of wood plastic com-posites. The focus is in the area of high wood con-tents beyond 70 %, where conventional systems cannot operate. The fiberexT extruder with the direct ex-trusion arrangement is combined with a hot die facegranulator and an air cooling system. Compounds withup to 85 % fibre content can be extruded.
