Find out how the session went...It may not seem so, but Mariana is not a professional model. She just happened to spontaneously participate in the “Model for a day” casting hosted by Wonders in the streets of Valencia. She won it thanks to the online votes of her family and friends. Her prize, a professional photo shoot, became a reality just weeks ago.

Tell us a bit about this from your own personal experience.Very enthusiastic, happy and excited! I had no

idea what the session would be like. It was my first

experience posing in front of the cameras, but it was

UNIQUE, DIFFERENT AND VERY ORIGINAL!

Did you ever imagine yourself being part of the new Spring/Summer Wonderscampaign image?

Not initially, NO. I never thought that winning the

“Model for a Day” contest, would give me the chance

to be the image of the new campaign, which I am very

proud of and extremely happy about.

Did you get a feeling for Model for a day?Totally! Surround ed by a marvellous team of

professionals – Makeup artists and Photographers –

everyone focusing their attention on me, looking after

everything right down to the tiniest detail.

You have been the very first person to show off the firm’s new summer designs, what can you tell us about the new collection?I find it very fresh and up-to-date. With colours and

designs that make any woman look really beautiful.

Tu carrera en solitario está muy ligada a las versiones. ¿Impone un respeto especial ofrecer tu visión personal de temas clásicos que ya forman parte del inconsciente colectivo? ¿Cuál crees que es la clave de una buena versión?

Impone pero no debe de paralizar. Porque lo interesante es hacer con estas canciones algo tuyo, con tu toque personal y a ser posible llevándolas a otros ritmos, otros paisajes sonoros donde cobren una nueva vida.

Tu nuevo trabajo se llama “Pequeñas Cosas”. ¿Cuáles son las pequeñas cosas que hacen feliz a Sole?

Son cosas muy cotidianas…un rayito de sol, una charla con amigos, mirar los ojos de mis hijos, un abrazo sentido…¡¡todo muy económico!!!

Este nuevo disco recoge una colección de once clásicos de la música española en clave de jazz, son, bolero, swing o samba, además de un par de temas tuyos. ¿Qué valor añadido crees que en general, ofrece el “Made in Spain”? ¿Qué nos distingue a nivel artístico y creativo?

Muchas cosas, quiero pensar, el idioma, su sonoridad, los matices, el enfoque y la posibilidad que ofrecen los ritmos latinos… todos un mundo por descubrir!! A nivel creativo creo que somos una potencia mundial a la que le falta el empuje de la propia sociedad española. ¡¡Hay que creérselo!!!

¿En qué se diferencia “Pequeñas Cosas” de tus anteriores trabajos en solitario?

Este álbum es una paso más. Recoge la estela del anterior “Dos Gardenias” pero profundiza en el estilo Latín Jazz y me da la oportunidad de revisar el talento autoral español. Es diferente pero tiene mucho sentido porque es heredero de los anteriores discos.

Alguna vez has declarado que hacer versiones es “como vestir a alguien a quien admiras mucho”. Pero…¿cómo le gusta vestir a Soledad Giménez?

Es una duda constante porque no me gusta demasiado seguir el dictado de la moda pero sí me apetece estar al día y luego está el problema de encontrar ropa que me guste, siente bien y no sea excesivamente cara…¡¡me encantaría poder hacer los vestidos que imagino y no encuentro en ninguna parte!!!

A lo largo de tu carrera has trabajado con artistas tan diversos como Revolver, Ana Belén, Los Piratas, Kepa Junkera…¿hay algún artista con el que aun no hayas trabajado y con el que te haría ilusión hacerlo? ¿Por qué?

Sown tantos…siempre por admiración y porque creo que me queda mucho que aprender. Ahora mis preferencias están más en el mundo del jazz: con Wynton Marsalis por ejemplo.

Pensamos disfrutar muuucho este último disco, pero ¿para cuándo tienes pensado volver a grabar un álbum dedicado a material propio? ¿Te ronda ya alguna canción por la cabeza?

Tengo muchas ideas, melodías, canciones pero por ahora estoy plenamente dedicada a este trabajo, esta búsqueda de aquellas canciones que serían los estándar en castellano, esos temas atemporales que nos describan, nos emocionen y nos permitan avanzar musicalmente.

Your solo career has a lot to do with adapted versions. Is it intimidating to expose your own personal point of view of classical pieces that are already part of the collective unconscious? What is the key to making a good version?It is intimidating but it shouldn’t stop you. Because what is interesting is to make these songs yours, add your own personal touch, incorporate other rhythms whenever possible, other soundscapes where the music comes alive.Your latest piece of work is called “Pequeñas Cosas”. What little things make Sole happy?Normal, everyday things…a sunbeam, having a chat with friends, looking into my children’s eyes, a heartfelt hug…it’s all very cheap!!!This new record is a collection of eleven Spanish classics in jazz , Son, Bolero, swing and samba rhythms, as well as a few of your own pieces added in. In general what added value does “Made in Spain” have to offer? What distinguishes us as artists and creators?Many things, let me think, the language, how it sounds, the nuances, the approach and all the potential of the Latin rhythms…it’s a whole new world to be discovered!! In terms of creativity, I think we are a world power that is just waiting for the impetus and a boost from the Spanish society. Believe it!!!How is “Pequeñas Cosas” different from you previous solo work?This album marks another stage. It has traces of my previous work “Dos Gardenias”, although it concentrates more on Latin Jazz style. It has given me the chance to review the talent of Spanish composers. It’s different but it has a meaning because it is heir to the previous records.You have said that making your own versions is “like dressing someone that you admire a lot”. But…how does Soledad Giménez like to dress?

That’s something I’m always asking myself because I don’t like to be a devoted follower of fashion, although I do like to be up-to date. Then there is the problem of actually finding clothes I like, that make me feel good and which aren’t excessively expensive…I would love to be able to make the dresses that I have in mind, but I never actually find them anywhere!!!During your career you have worked with very different artists like Revolver, Ana Belén, Los Piratas, Kepa Junkera…is there any artist that you still haven’t worked with yet, that you would love to get together with? Why? There are so many…that I admire and because I think I still have a lot to learn. At the moment my favourites are more in the world of jazz: with Wynton Marsalis for example.We are really going to enjoy your latest record, but when do you think you are going to record an album that is entirely dedicated to your own pieces? Do you have a song in your head yet?I have plenty of ideas, tunes, and songs but at the moment I am putting all my effort into this project, this search for the all time Spanish classics, those timeless tunes that describe us, fill us with emotion and enable our music to progress.Well I think that’s it. Sí, sí, Tonic-Gin. Y lo decimos al revés porque siempre que alguien habla de los gin tonics como arte, como algo a paladear y disfrutar, la importancia recae sobre la marca de ginebra.Eso no sucede cuando la tónica es Fever-Tree. Está muy rica sola, (hasta Ferrán Adriá la sirve en el Bulli) pero si la mezclas, su sabor potencia lo mejor de su acompañante. Todo un detalle, te-niendo en cuenta que la tónica, para lo que más se emplea, es para mezclarla con gin. Aunque ésta te permite crear creativos cócteles para las calurosas noches de verano. Toma nota.

DO YOU FANCY A TONIC-GIN?

Yes, yes, tonic and Gin. We have said it the wrong way

round because there is always someone who refers to gin

and tonic as if it was art, like something to be savoured

and enjoyed; it’s the brand of gin that is important.

This isn’t the case when the tonic water is Fever-Tree. It’s

delicious on its own, (even Ferrán Adriá serves it up at

the Bulli restaurant) but if you mix it, its flavour enhances

that of whatever it accompanies. A nice touch, given that

whatever else the tonic water is used for, it’s to be mixed

with gin. Although it can be used to create cocktails on

warm summer nights. Take note.

Where did the urge to do this come from?

How did you get the idea of your blog?

I studied computer engineering, although I’m a teacher. I love

teaching. If you enjoy teaching, you do it enthusiastically.

You convey things better.

Fashion, beauty, cooking, well being …is there

any subject that you don’t deal with, which you

would like to start on soon?

I am pregnant and I’ve thought about doing some videos on

babies: pregnancy, feeding…and also for the boys, many have

asked me to spend a bit more time on them.

Hair up shaped and in place with two socks, rice

face mask and towel…practical advice, attractive

and in clothes for around the house. Can you give

us an exclusive for Wondering readers?

I always try and keep up with fashion from my own fashion

perspective. There are things I like, although they never suit me.

You have to chose things that you can see yourself wearing,

regardless of whether you like them or not. That’s my advice.

celebrity look that you are going to delight us

with? We just can’t wait.

Many have asked me to do Katy Perry. She’s not beguiling, but

she does have very unusually shaped eyes. I’ll also tell you a

secret about Beyoncé.

If you had to record a tutorial about Wonders,

what would you tell people?

It’s especially important to me, because I (and many of my

friends) are tall and we wear size 41/42. It’s not that easy you

know, to find a brand that has those sizes available, which

produces cute and comfortable shoes. Smart feminine, that’s

what I say.

Y no es tan fácil encontrar una marca que trabaje esas tallas y que a la vez te ofrezca un calzado cómodo y mono. Femenino arregladín, que digo yo.

wouldn’t remember that scream under the shower? Apart from having

a voice that could smash mirrors, I’m blond and undoubtedly I would

have been one of Alfred Hitchcock’s favourites.
