AUGUST RUSH22 The U of M may be sad to see the calendar fl ip past August. In 16 seasons, Memphis is 18-5-1 all-time in the month of August and is unbeaten in the last 16 matches in the month of August dating back to the 2003 season. Since their last loss in the month of August (8/31/03-Ole Miss), Memphis has outscored its opponents 57-5.

REMEMBER SEPTEMBER22 With all the success in August in the past sev-eral seasons, what has the U of M done in the month of September? In the last four seasons, including three games this season, Memphis is 22-11-0 in the month of September. Last sea-son, Memphis was 4-3 in September.

CLEAN SHEET22 In the past fi ve matches, Memphis has held opponents to just 12 shots on goal and recorded four shutouts. In the last three seasons, Mem-phis has 28 shutouts and has back-to-back shut-outs 10 times. The four-straight shutout streak earlier this season was the fi rst four-game shut-out streak and the 441:25 scoreless streak by opponents was the longest streak in program history.

BALANCED OFFENSE22 Thus far, Memphis has scored 20 goals in seven matches, but more importantly 11 differ-ent players have scored those 20 goals. After the 6-2 victory over Charlotte on Sunday, seven different players have scored two or more goals this season. The Lady Tigers have 15 assists on the 20 goals and nine different players have recorded assists. Six different players have at-tempted 10 or more shots while 10 players have fi ve or more shots. The offense ranks 17th in the NCAA statistical release, averaging 2.86 goals per game.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK22 Breaking the career shutouts and victories marks by a goalkeeper in the program record book, Elise Kuhar-Pitters was named the C-USA Defensive Player of the Week by the league of-fi ce on Sept. 5. 22 The selection was the 15th time a U of M student-athlete has earned defensive player of the week honors. 22 It was also the third-straight selection for the U of M this season. Lizzy Simonin and Chris-tie Kline earned defensive player of the week honors in week one and two, respectively. The three-straight selections mark the fi rst time in program history that Lady Tigers were selected in consecutive weeks.

THREE...IS THE MAGIC NUMBER22 When scoring three or more goals in a match, the U of M carries a 81-6-1 record all-time. Un-der Head Coach Brooks Monaghan, Memphis is 60-3-1. In the past four seasons in which Mem-phis has four-straight championships, the record when scoring three or more goals is 26-0-1.

RECORD BOOK REWRITE22 Redshirt-senior goalkeeper Elise Kuhar-Pitters began her fi fth season in net for the Lady Tigers on the cusp of breaking multiple goalkeeping records. Just seven matches into the season, Kuhar-Pitters owns three of the fi ve goalkeeping records at the U of M. With her third-straight shutout at Western Kentucky on Sept. 4, Kuhar-Pitters broke Isabel Birones’ record for shutouts and victories in a career. Kuhar-Pitters has 27 career shutouts and 42 victories and program-best 0.86 goals-against average. Kuhar-Pitters is also in the top-fi ve in saves and minutes played.

DEFENSE WINS CHAMPIONSHIPS22 Since the 2007 season, the Lady Tiger de-fense has helped the U of M to a 66-4-5 record when opponents score one or fewer goals. In that same span, Memphis has 48 shutouts.22 This season, the Memphis defense has al-lowed just 18 shots on goal. By comparison, op-ponents have 56 total shots against the U of M this season, but Memphis has 60 shots on goal in seven matches. Elise Kuhar-Pitters ranks 12th nationally with a 0.30 goals-against aver-age. As a team, Memphis ranks 35th in the na-tion with a 0.57 GAA.

BEST OFFENSE IS A GOOD DEFENSE22 As the saying goes, the best offense is a good defense, which has certainly been a case for the U of M this season. Among 13 players that have played in the back this season, seven players have accounted for 15 of Memphis’ 55 points. Five goals and fi ve assists have been scored by defensive players on the year.

MEMPHIS VS. IN-STATE OPPONENTS22 Thursday’s matchup with Vanderbilt is the fi rst match against a team from the state of Ten-nessee since Memphis battled the Volunteers of Tennessee in 2009. The U of M is 23-10 all-time versus in-state opponents, but has played just seven matches against in-state opponents since the 2005 season.

GET THE SHOW ON THE ROAD22 Thursday’s match at Vanderbilt begins a fi ve-game road swing for the Lady Tigers. The fi ve-game road trip is the longest since the 2002 sea-son in which the U of M played seven-straight matches on the road. In 14 road trips that lasted three or more games, Memphis has compiled a record of 22-22-3 (3-0 in 2011). Opponents have outscored the Lady Tigers 75-74 in the 47 matches during road trips, but the U of M has equaled or bettered their opponent scoring in the last six road trips. Memphis went 3-0 on its fi rst road trip of 2011, posting three shutouts.
