97%The number of
people in the UK who admit to
snacking in between meals, according to a survey by Pink
Lady apples.
It’s often said that breakfast is the most important meal of the day and recent research by the Food & Brand Lab at Cornell University has proved it’s true. In a survey, just 4% of ‘mindlessly slim’ people (those who have an average BMI of 21.7, who don’t diet) never skip breakfast or, in fact, miss any meal throughout the day. The favourite choice that topped the poll for breakfast was fruits (51%), dairy (41%), cereal/granola (33%), bread (32%) and eggs (31%). ‘They not only ate breakfast, but ate healthful foods,’ says lead author Anna-Leena Vuorinen. Shake up your first meal of the day this month by celebrating Breakfast Week, 24-30 Jan 2016. Be inspired at shakeupyourwakeup.com

contain 567 cals for the same serving. Even the World Health Organisation agrees they’re a good source of protein, plus they’re rich in copper, iron, magnesium
and fibre. Feeling brave? Try a Crobar Cacao & Cricket Flour or Peanut & Cricket Flour bar. They’re packed

Move over, Mediterranean – if you want to lose weight, the Baltic Sea diet is the new one to follow. In a study over seven years, the Finnish Institute For Health & Welfare found that eating lots of rye bread, root veggies, berries and rapeseed oil – all found around the Baltic Sea region – is great for beating obesity. ‘Those who stuck to the Baltic Sea diet managed to diminish their body mass index or at least keep it level,’ says nutrition researcher Noora Kanerva.
