Ma’am step out the car please. Is there a problem officer asked Kathy as the stepped out her SUV? I spotted you whirling in and out of lanes are you under the influence of alcohol? No I just had one drink I’m fine. Okay well you don’t look fine but we about to find out. What a test for what shouted Kathy as she woke up out her sleep! Baby are you okay asked Berry? Yes I just had a bad dream said Kathy as she laid back down and went to sleep. The next morning she awoke to her cell phone ringing. Hello! May I speak to Kathy? This is Kathy how may I help you? Yes this is Gary I’m calling about the ad in the green sheet about the car for sell. Yes it’s still for sell. Great I would like to take a look at it and if I like it I’m ready to buy. Okay I can meet with you today by 2.30 pm in the Wal-Mart parking lot is that good for you? Sounds good see you then. At this point Kathy was thrilled that someone wanted to buy the car but at the same time she wondered am I going about this the right way. Selling the car my grandfather left for me when he died. That thought kept playing over and over in her head. Kathy knew she needed to talk to someone. That’s when she decided to

go visit her friend Carla who was a financial adviser for wealthy people. Kathy and Carla had known each other since they were in the seventh grade and she trusted her opinion. Kathy got dressed and drove over to Carla office which was located downtown thirty-minutes from where she lived. Knock, knock hey girl said Kathy. Hey you early we not suppose to have lunch until 5 o’clock. This is a business trip ma‘am. Okay what’s going on are you okay? Yeah I’m fine. I’m selling the Benz my grandfather left me. What Kathy that’s your dream car! I know but owning my own store is my dream as well. Whoa wait a second here you’re not talking about selling the Benz to front a store are you? Yes that’s exactly what I’m talking about. How much are you selling the Benz for asked Carla? Fifteen thousand. Are you smoking fifteen thousand is not enough to start a women’s apparel store especially not the kind you are talking about. Kathy you want clothes, shoes, and accessories not to mention the expense that it’s going to take to fix up the store. You killing me Carla, you are killing me. Sweetie I’m not trying to destroy your dreams, hell I’m ready to get a discount myself. So what are you telling me asked Kathy as she rolled her eyes. You know this doesn’t sound right because if it did you wouldn’t be here now. Let’s say you sell the car and deposit that whole fifteen thousand in your bank account without spending a penny. Okay you off to a good start. But that whole fifteen-thousand is not going to cover your rent for the entire year. Kathy took a deep breath. That’s when you continue to spend less and save more to get that store. And if you feel like saving could take forever that’s when you pay your bills off top and put your entire check in the bank. You need at least thirty-five thousand to forty-thousand behind you because anything can happen. Forty-thousand shouted Kathy! Yes what about your employers you need at least one you can‘t be there all day. Well what about a loan asked Kathy? There is nothing wrong with getting a loan except getting yourself into debt. Well can I look at least start looking at locations and merchandise? Of course you can just don’t purchase any merchandise because the look may be out of style when you open your doors. Wow you said that like it may be a years from now. No it’s up to you and how hard you work for it. Besides you know how fashion is you have to keep up with the Jones. Okay well thanks for looking out but I have to get out of here I’m meeting the guy that wants to buy the car. Okay doll give me a huge and don’t get discouraged it gonna come when you least excepted. Kathy immediately left Carla office for her 2:30 meeting. She showed up in the Wal-Mart parking lot right on time. Gary pulled up right beside her as he jumped out his car with a glow on his face. Wow she is a beauty said Gary as he walked around the car grinning from ear to ear. You like it asked Kathy? I love her why are you selling the car? Financial Issues I really don’t want to but I have other things in mind. Okay I want her but first let me check under the hood. Beautiful said Gary while looking under the hood of the Benz he was so ready to buy. Well here is the report on her you can also look this information up on line she is in great shape and I’m ready to turn the tittles over if you ready for her. That was all the information Gary needed to hear he was ready to buy. The next day Kathy and Gary finalize the deal and Kathy had her cashier’s check of

fifteen-thousand in her hands. Kathy was so excited the deal had gone threw; she just had to share the news with someone. That’s when she went to see Bruno at a local men’s shoe store he worked at. Bruno was a friend of Kathy’s family for years he use to stay in trouble with the law but was now on the right track. Kathy had always admired Bruno because he had an eye for fashion, women fashion at that. Hi is Bruno in today? Yes he’s over there stocking said the front desk clerk. When Kathy walked behind Bruno she tapped him on the shoulders. Hey lady what are you doing here I haven’t seen you in months said Bruno as he gave Kathy a hug. Kathy started singing I work hard for the money, Bruno began laughing. Why are you in such good spirits asked Bruno? We’ll let’s just say I’m a step closer to owning that women’s apparel store I always talked about. That’s great when are you going to open it? Slow down I’m not there just yet. Well what’s stopping you I know of a great location for you? Really asked Kathy? Yes, Katy Mall is the busiest mall in this city you’re guaranteed sales. No one guaranteed sales in a mall you have competition and all the big names and brands they have to offer. Are you afraid of competition asked Bruno being sarcastic. Uh yea who in the hell isn’t when there opening their first business. True but competition is everywhere that’s something you have to deal with even if you’re in a shopping center. I guess your right. Let’s look at in another way you’re great looking and you know Kevin loves you so do you feel insecure when another beautiful woman walks past you? No it’s going to take more than just a pretty face to win Kevin over. Exactly so what I’m saying is when the advertise you go harder. So girl let’s get to ordering those shoes and dressed. Please you haven’t change you don’t listen said Kathy laughing. No honey I just persistent put me to work. I got to go call me later. Okay but don’t forget to go see what Katy Mall has to offer. Okay let you know what happens with that. Kathy left the shoe store with a different outlook on her business adventure. She was ready and there was no turning back now.

Hi I’m Jennifer. Hello I’m Kathy. Have a seat so you’re in the retail business I see. Trying to get into the retail business. Okay so this would be your first store? Yes said Kathy feeling a little nervous. Well this is an upscale mall so that can be a little risky. Can you give me a little more info on what you mean? You’re competing with Macy’s, Channel, and a lot of other name brands stores you have to really know what you’re doing. I’m well experienced in the fashion world if that‘s what you mean. With that being said let’s take a look at some spaces. Kathy and Jennifer walked toward the food court where Kathy wanted to put her first store. It didn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that everyone hangs out near the food court but could Kathy afford the space. How much space are you looking for asked Jennifer? Two-thousand to twenty-five hundred. Kind of small this space we’re about to see is thirty-five hundred sq feet. Out of my budget so let’s not waste anytime looking at this one because I just might like it said Kathy. That’s fine we have one more but I have to warn you it’s kind of in a blind spot but these two are the only ones we have left. Jennifer walked Kathy to the other end of the mall where they looked at a space for twenty-seven sq feet. Kathy fell in love with the space even though she went over the sq footage she had in mind.Jennifer I love this space. Great give me a day or so and I’ll have a lease put together for you. I still need a little more time said Kathy knowing she was moving to fast. Time for what we rarely have spaces available if this is what you want you need to jump on this

before someone else does. Kathy took a deep breath she wanted this spot in the mall so bad but in the back of her mind was Carla saying you are not ready for this yet. Prepare the lease I’ll return tomorrow to sign. Okay now we’re talking bring fifty-four hundred dollars that’s for first month rent and deposit. Okay see you tomorrow said Kathy knowing she just over talked herself. Be there at 9 am said Jennifer with a smile on her face. Kathy left the mall and drove straight home to tell Kevin the news. Baby shouted Kathy as she bust threw the front door to find Kevin lying on the couch watching a football game. Guess what shouted Kathy! I hope you haven’t brought another twelve- hundred dollar Louie bag. Babe come on those days are gone for now. What’s going on then? Tomorrow I’m going to be signing a lease with Katy Mall. For what? Kevin come on I’m going to be a tenant there. That’s wonderful but Kathy you haven’t had that money in your hands a day and you are already about to blow it. So are you saying I’m making a mistake? Basically yeah fifteen-thousand is not a lot of money to start a business with. Kevin I need you behind me on this. I am behind you I just want you to handle this the right way. I have a plan said Kathy in a low voice. I know you do now come give me a hug, congratulations said Kevin as he took a deep breath. While Kevin had his arms around Kathy she felt sure of herself but she knew she had a tough road ahead of her. Kathy went in the bathroom and locked the door. She immediately got on her knees and started praying. Lord you know this has been my dream since I was a young girl. Give me a sign and let me know if I should or shouldn’t sign that lease tomorrow. Threw out the day all Kathy could think about was tomorrow and being a step closer to becoming a business woman. That night she tossed and turned before falling asleep hoping she would have dreams tonight that would speak to her. The next morning when Kathy awoke she remembered praying for a sign wondering was this meant to be but there was no sign. Kathy wanted this opportunity so bad she began to tell herself that having no dreams the night before was a good sign. Then Jennifer called confirming their meeting for today. Kathy became even more excited by telling Jennifer she was on her way up there as we speak. After hanging up with Jennifer, Kathy took a quick shower and threw on some clothes. Then she made her first stop at the bank where she withdrew the fifty-four hundred dollars she needed in order to seal the deal. At this point whether or not she was making a mistake or not was no longer an issue. Kathy was ready to dive in and was a step closer to getting in the door. When she walked into the office of Jennifer she felt important a feeling as if she was accomplishing something in her life. After she finished signing the paperwork Jennifer dropped the store keys straight into Kathy hands. After the meeting Kathy called Bruno to meet her at Katy Mall where she was now a tenant. Bruno agreed but while waiting on him she began to walk around the mall and talk with managers of other stores. Next to her store was Georgio Shoes which was a male shoe store. Kathy walked in to introduce herself. Hello I’m Kathy I just leased the store next door to you. Congratulations I’m Mark the manager here Georgio is my father. Nice to meet you replied Kathy as she shook the man hand. So are you excited and ready to dive in? I’m

so excited this is the busiest mall in the city. It was but due to the recession it’s been really slow for about two years. Really I thought the recession was over. That’s what they say but we been here for ten years and these last two years been the worst I’ve ever experienced. Kathy began to frown. Being the owner son I will say try to advertise much as possible it really helps. Kathy, Kathy shouted Bruno walking toward her. Hi Bruno this is Mark he is the manager for this shoe store. The two gentlemen shook hands before Kathy and Bruno walked over to Kathy store. Kathy this is nice said Bruno looking around. Isn’t it I love it the moment I stepped in here. I already have visions for you girl said Bruno walking around the store. Great because I want you to be the manager part-time here when your not at your other job. Kathy I would love to take on the job and I’m up for the challenge. Good because I want you to help me start ordering the merchandise this week. And I know just the vendors to go to, now being that we are not a corporation yet we will have to use the plastic. That’s what I hand in mind Bruno. Have you thought about radio advertising? Bruno I don’t know what kind of budget you think I’m working with but it’s not a very big one. That’s fine we can start with flyers said Bruno as he went on and on. Kathy and Bruno stayed in the store for an hour making plans before leaving. When Kathy made it home Kevin was already there waiting lying in the bed watching TV. Hey how did work go today? Fine until I made it home and dinner wasn’t ready. I’m sorry Kevin but I had a really busy day today I’m about to put something together now. A busy day huh I bet this had something to do with that store. Yeah a part of it but I have other things going on as well you couldn’t prepare dinner just this one time. I pay bills shouted Kevin. And I don’t last I recall we where splitting the bills. So what you know I can’t cook shouted Kevin. And I didn’t know how to change my headlights light bulb on my car but I did anyway cause I got tired of asking you. You know what Kevin I don’t want to argue this is minor. Kevin didn’t even stay around to wait on dinner he stormed out on Kathy after the argument. Kathy prepared dinner anyway and waited on Kevin to return. Hours had passed and he had not returned home yet. Around 10:30pm Kathy began to put dinner away and go to bed she was tired and had a long day ahead of her tomorrow. Kathy stayed up as long as she could but fell asleep at 12:00 am waiting on Kevin to return. While Kathy laid sleeping Kevin eased in the bed around 1:00 in the morning. Kathy awoke at 6 o’clock in the morning for work. Instead of waking Kevin up she just kissed him on the forehead and left for work. Throughout the day at work Kathy could only think about the store she just leased and putting up her new merchandise. She wasn’t the only one ready to move forward so was Bruno. Kathy, Bruno is on line one. Thanks. Hey Bruno what’s going on in your world? You know me I’m dreaming. I wanted to see if we could meet up around four to purchase fixtures for the store. Four sounds good to me see you then hon. Kathy had plenty of free time on her hands at work so she began to set up social networks for her business. These social networks where just other ideas for advertising her business online. After leaving work for the day Kathy met Bruno at Harwin fixture store, where you can purchase everything you need for starting a new business. Kathy spent two-thousand dollars on fixtures and at this point she was feeling

like she had over spent. While Bruno was thinking we should have spent more. The fixtures where delivered to Kathy store the same day and set up the same night. Kathy was now focused on ordering her merchandise which she only had a budget of seven-thousand left. She had to spend the whole seven-thousand to fill her store up which meant there would be no budget left in case the rent wasn’t made. Kathy knew in her heart that could be dangerous but she felt like she had a plan and she was ready to share it. After hours of putting fixtures together Kathy went home around 8 o’clock. She walked in the door hoping to see Kevin but he wasn’t there. After working all day and putting up fixtures at the store Kathy still made dinner wanting to avoid any arguments. She began to get ready for bed around ten when Kevin walked in the bedroom. Hey how your day go asked Kathy? Okay until they asked me to work overtime. Bay why you didn’t call me and tell me you where working overtime. I felt you would assume I was working if I wasn’t home. Kevin I don’t like to assume anything just out of respect could you at least call me. Okay my mistake it want happen again. While Kevin was just now about to eat lunch, Kathy was in the bed thinking to herself. Are we growing apart or is this just a stage we’re going threw lord please help us break down this wall.

Fashion House was the name of Kathy new business adventure that was now up and running. Kathy spent six-thousand dollars on her store merchandise. Most of the merchandise was designed buy her which she had been storing all over her house for years. The only kind of advertising she could afford was putting an ad in the newspaper and passing out flyers. Bruno also helped out a lot with advertising and worked in the store part-time giving Kathy a chance to build her business. Kathy felt as if she had no choice but to quit her job due to not having secure funds to pay an employer. Quiting her job made Kevin furious and the problems between the both of them only became worse than what they already were. Kathy had a feeling Kevin was cheating on her but she couldn’t prove it and a part of her really didn’t want too. She began to feel as if she was in a no win situation being that Kevin was paying half the bills and if he left she would only fall into debt. Sometimes she wondered if Kevin knew the situation she was in or did he think she just had everything under control. Everyday that she came home tired and stressed out from the store she never told Kevin of the situation she was beginning to feel as if she was living a lie. Kathy was the type of person she wanted to live her life as a open book but that wasn’t going to happen with Kevin. He only turned every conversation into an argument and that was something Kathy tried to avoid. The grand opening of Fashion House wasn’t much of a success only bringing in two-hundred dollars that day. Kathy didn’t start to worry until two months had gone by and she had only brought in two hundred dollars. That amount wasn’t even enough to cover the light bill. Kathy began to advertise more hoping to draw customers to the store but another situation was about to come to the light. Kevin was beginning to get a little disrespectful and Kathy was getting fed up with it. On two occasions Kevin didn’t come

home until seven in the morning and his excuse was he was too wasted to drive home. But the last straw was when Kathy walked in on Kevin phone conversation with another women. She took the phone out his hand and began talking to the woman on the other end of the phone and she couldn’t believe what she was hearing. The other woman claim to have been having an affair with Kevin for three months now. Kathy was furious as she threw Kevin phone against the wall and broke it without thinking she shouted get the hell out my house! Oh so this your house now shouted Kevin! Yeah that’s what I said now get out. I already paid the rent for this month, I’m not going anywhere. You wanna bet shouted Kathy as she grabbed a bottle of bleach and ran toward the master bedroom. You better not bleach my clothes! Well get out now. Where I’m gonna go asked Kevin in a low tone? Go to that bitch house that’s where you been anyway. I don’t care where you go Kevin I just can’t stand to look at you no more. I don’t care if I lose everything I been letting you run all over me just to make it cried Kathy. I can’t do it anymore, this can’t be it I got to get you out my life. You’re gonna fail without me said Kevin. I failed with you when I sold my soul just to make it. Kevin begin to pack his clothes as Kathy went into the kitchen and cried. Kathy knew that her and Kevin had problems but she didn’t see this one coming. What am I going to do cried Kathy. The next day at Fashion House Kathy informed Bruno of the news. I put Kevin out the house last night. What shouted Bruno! It was time Bruno he was getting too disrespectful. I understand but you couldn’t wait a lil longer. You mean put up with it until my store got off the ground. Well I didn’t mean it like that but let’s look at it from another point of view. Look at all those up and coming business women weather they are an actress, model or just a business owner. You notice when they get on they feet they file for a divorce claiming the man was cheating or we’re just not getting along anymore when all along the man had been cheating they just didn’t want to see it right then. Honey women are getting smarter now, you have to play the game like a pro if you want to be a pro. I felt like I was selling myself out, with or without Kevin I gonna make it he can take that seven-hundred and put it up his ass. Okay doll I bet you want be saying that when that seven-hundred due said Bruno as he walked off. I’m standing my ground Bruno shouted Kathy across the room! Kevin tried calling Kathy but he wasn’t persistent with trying. Kathy only ignored the phone calls not wanting anything to do with Kevin anymore. But as days passed Kathy began to fall behind on bills mainly her car note. She was using her car note money to cover her rent the half that Kevin was once paying. Kathy began to receive some assistance from her family but it wasn’t enough to cover everything bills just wouldn’t stop coming. Her home telephone was cut off due to non payment and the store phone wasn’t far behind with a disconnect notice already being sent. Kathy wanted so badly to call Carla but she had been avoiding Carla due to the fact she went against everything Carla said not to do. While bills where beginning to pile up Kathy phone started to ring as well. Kathy knew she needed help the next day at work she came clean with Bruno. Kathy this letter came from the mall office today said Bruno as he handed her the envelope. Kathy opened the letter and her heart sink. Oh no said Kathy. What’s wrong

asked Bruno? This is a letter demanding payment within ten days. You don’t have it? Bruno everything is just going downhill I’m in debt. Well do you have my paycheck for Friday asked Bruno. Are you serious asked Kathy with a frown? Girl I’m just playing said Bruno laughing. Things got bad when Kevin left like I said they where going to get. You hit it right on the nail. I seen that coming but we can’t cry over spilled milk said Bruno. I got it let’s just throw a 50% off sale. Great idea but that’s like giving away my merchandise I mean 50% is a lot. Not really you’re still making something the merchandise is marked up three times. Kathy right now all we need to worry about is bringing some money into this store before we end up having to close the doors. I should have listened to Carla. Who is Carla? My friend she is a financial adviser. Well go talk to her again she might have a solution for you. I will tomorrow let’s just began to mark this merchandise down and get ready for this sale. How long do you want the sale to last asked Bruno? Friday, Saturday, and Sunday 50% off weekend sale. Starting Monday 30% off the entire week. Now your talking to me girl. Kathy began to look depress. Don’t start thinking negative you are gonna get threw this let‘s just keep on kicking. Are you sure cause Bruno everyday it’s something I don’t answer numbers I don’t know thinking it’s a bill collector. I hide my car in the garage just so they don’t repo it how worse can this get. Don’t say that the devil is a lie shouted Bruno! And I’m so tired of the owner of the beauty salon coming in here bragging on how well her salon is doing. I’m not hating or anything but sister can you tell me your story. Don’t just hold onto the information help someone else get there. Kathy that’s not going to happen people are so afraid that your gonna out do them when you just want to make it to the next round. I can sit here and listen to you talk all day about you doing bad but sweetheart that’s not gonna help us get anywhere. I know Bruno I guess I just want to be successful. Honey 99% of the world feel the same as you but only the strong become successful. Well hey I’m superwoman said Kathy in a sure voice. Okay superwoman let’s make it happen and come up with some ideas to get some extra money in this store. I have one idea, what about a fashion show said Kathy with glowing eyes? Now you talking that’s my speciality, give me a date and let’s make something happen. Okay give me a little time and I’ll get back with you. I really hope it’s just a little time cause that seems to be all we got replied Bruno laughing. I see you got jokes, I’m out of here see you tomorrow lock up at 9 o’clock. When Kathy made it home Kevin was on her door step waiting. Hey Kevin what are you doing here? Can we talk? Sure come in the house. After walking in the house Kathy notice the frown Kevin had on his face and wondered what was about to come out his mouth. You been okay asked Kathy? Not really but I’m seeing it threw. Kathy I want you back I was wrong and I’m ready to work it out. Kevin it’s not that easy I wish it was. What’s not so easy about it? I can’t sit here and lie to you I wish you where here at times but as time go by I realize I’m fine. Kathy it hasn’t even been six months what are you talking about? I’m talking about coming home and not knowing what type of mood your gonna be in that day. Scared to say the wrong thing not knowing if your gonna blow up and start yelling. And not to mention wondering if your gonna come home or

not. Kevin I don’t want wonder anymore about my man I just want to know. You think I like coming home alone every night said Kathy with tears in her eyes. No but I rather be alone then to drive myself crazy with all the what if’s. So I guess this is it said Kevin with a sick look on his face. I guess so Kevin. Kathy politely opened the front door as Kevin looked at her one last time before walking out. Kathy wasted no time dwelling as she walked into her bedroom and went to drawing sketches. Kathy knew she couldn’t turn back now even though the road ahead didn’t look so promising. Ring, ring was the sound coming from Kathy cell phone as she didn’t answer it when she seen it was Carla. Thirty-seconds after the phone stop ringing it began to ring again as Kathy began to frown up knowing that Carla has never called back to back like this before she had a feeling she needed to answer this call. Hello. Kathy where have you been; I been trying to call you for weeks now? I been a little busy what’s wrong? I wanted to see if you would go to my doctor’s appointment with me tomorrow. Doctor’s appointment for what a check up replied Kathy sounding worried? Something like that we will talk about it tomorrow if you’ll come. Of course I’ll come but you scaring me. Okay that makes two of us then said Carla laughing. Be over there at nine in the morning to pick you up. Ok said Kathy as she hung up the phone and then held it close to her heart at this point she didn’t know what to think. The next morning Carla arrived at Kathy house at 8:30 in the morning and to Carla surprise Kathy was sitting on the door step waiting. At lease I’m not the only one nervous said Carla laughing. When Kathy sat in the car she didn’t crack a smile to Carla she only wanted answers. Carla out of sixteen years that I have known you I can’t remember you ever asking me to go to the doctor with you, what’s going on? Carla took a deep breath and then put her head down for a second. Let’s not jump to conclusions at this point Kathy I know how you are. Well girl tell me something. About a month ago I found a lump on my breast and I was too scared to go to the doctor. For some strange reason I was hoping the lump would leave but it never did so last week I made a doctors appointment for a check up and here we are today about to find out the results. Oh my god Carla. Yeah that’s the same thought I was thinking I called on him all night long. I don’t know what’s about to happen but with a lot of prayer I’m ready for what ever comes my way. You have always been the strong one said Kathy still not believing what she had just heard. Before we get to this doctor’s office I’m trying to find out why you been avoiding me for weeks. Once again I did it my way and I got myself in a mess. What you mean asked Carla? I opened the business after discussing all the out comes with you. Are you serious, how are things going? Their not I’m already in debt and behind on everything I own. Is Kevin still holding his part down? Kevin is no longer there. What Kathy everything has changed since we last talked but I never expected to see you and Kevin calling it quits. I called it quits, it was time we where like strangers living together. Don’t throw in the towel just yet there are things that can be done before it’s too late. I don’t know Carla even if Bruno and I pull off this fashion show will the show bring buyers. Fashion show sounds good and maybe some really good advertising as well said Carla. Advertising sounds good but it’s tagged with a price. Please tell me

Kathy sat in the waiting room biting her nails while Carla came face to face with the doctor to hear her results that could change the rest of her life. Thirty-minutes later Carla walked out of the doctor’s office with a look of dazed in her face. You okay asked Kathy? Not really he could have kept that report to himself replied Carla as she sat down. Don’t say that then you wouldn’t know how to get better. Carla we can beat this said Kathy as she held Carla hand. Kathy I start treatment in two days why is this happening to me shouted Carla crying loudly! We can never ask why things happen to good people said Kathy as she held Carla in her arms.On the way home from the hospital not a single word came out of Carla mouth she only glanced out the window. At this point Kathy knew she couldn’t leave her best friend alone while she was in a state of shock. Let’s go to my place so I can grab some things? Why you think I’m suicidal? Bruno and Kathy looked at each other with a weird look on their face. That could work replied Bruno. No seriously lets raise money for breast cancer and donate half the money and you keep the other portion. You don’t think that would be scheming by keeping half. My grandma died from this so did my mother and now it’s my time to go and I’m so ready this is a ugly world we living in and I feel like we’re at the end of our days. The radio station catered to a twenty-five and older crowed which was perfect for Kathy and the crowed she was trying to attract to her business. And now that Carla was home and the fashion show was a day away things where finally on the right track. After the treatments where over Carla hair had thinned out so much until she felt insecure. One Tuesday afternoon on the way home from the store Kathy notice a wig store and got a little excited while telling Carla. Let’s stop. At the wig store I rather wear a hat. Come on let’s just go inside and try some on. No way you can tell it’s a wig when you put it on. You must haven’t seen wigs lately said Kathy laughing. Wigs are wigs they all look the same. You dam right I’m gonna have my Chinese look going and then when the models change their clothes at the fashion show hell I’m going to ladies room to change my wig. And then I’m going to step in their like bam what next! Are you serious? Hell yeah said Carla with a serious look. Before leaving out the store Carla had purchased two wigs and was feeling good about herself. Kathy and Carla next stop was home to prepare for the big show tomorrow while Bruno was at the Marriot hotel setting up. No, no ladies that’s not the diva walk I’m looking for, please give me something more fierce. In the mist of all the bickering and moving around Bruno cell wouldn’t stop going off. The hotel looks so gorgeous and not to mention the radio station did they thing and promoted it so well. Gosh I’m so excited but there’s one issue left I haven’t spoken on. What’s that replied Carla while combing threw her wig? I want you to speak about cancer and how you stayed strong threw it all. No way I can’t speak in front of a crowd; I get nervous. Carla the doctor told you that you have come a long way and you need to share that with other people. I bet when the radio station promoted that fashion show there was at least one person sitting in they car saying; maybe someone there can understand what I going threw. Carla you’re not the only one that’s praying everyday for a miracle everyone else out here is two. Now you don’t have to speak tomorrow but that would be selfish to hide what god did for you said Kathy before walking off. Carla stood there in silence before snatching her wig off and walking upstairs. When Carla and Kathy walked into the ballroom they where stunned to see the crowd that was there. Ladies, ladies over here shouted Bruno from across the room! Oh my god Bruno it’s packed to the wall in here. What you expected honey the marketing was on point thanks to Ms. Carla. Thank you for the support boo boo said Bruno as he hugged Carla. Oh and there are a lot of cancer survivors here just as I expected. That’s great I put together a small speech said Kathy. Kathy I want to speak. No Carla you don’t have to I shouldn’t have pressured you in the first place. No I need to do this for myself. Okay now since we got that all settled ladies let’s get back stage and start this fashion show. Back stage the models was all lined up and ready to go as the lights dimmed and the music started. The models lined up one by one to strut the runway. Bruno put together the finest pieces for the runway to put fashion house on the spot. Kathy and Carla did no standing around during the show as the models walked back in they dressed them and sent them back out. The fashion show was going smoothly and was now at the ending point. Bruno you did a hell of a job said Carla. Thank you honey; we did a hell of a job so let’s have a group hug. Carla, Kathy, and Bruno stood there hugging and crying for ten minutes. stage where the crowd was still cheering in excitement. Thank you but it’s not over yet. I want to bring out a strong woman who has been threw it all but now she’s fighting the fight of her life and still walking around with a smile on her face. I want to bring out Ms. Carla Green. Carla walked on the stage with a huge smile on her face but at the same time she could feel the butterflies in her stomach. Thanks everyone for coming out and what a great fashion show shouted Carla as everyone began cheering again. This fashion show was put together for a cause and that’s cancer. I’m sure there are some survivors and some who are still fighting this battle. Well I’m one of those who are still fighting and it’s a battle everyday. When I was told by my doctor I had breast cancer I thought why me. I was a good person who worked all my life to get to where I was and I thought I had it all. I have a nice car, a beautiful home and a successful career and with that being said I had it all. But I was missing the point; see cause when you leave this earth you can’t take any of that stuff with you. Some of us work twelve hours a day and when we get home we’re so tired we can’t even cook for our families or read our kids a bed time story. We feel like we’re being great parents by just providing for our families but they need us more than that. My father one of the greatest men I knew loved starting business adventures and my mother thought he was crazy but she never left him. When I got older I asked her one day, mom how did you put up with daddy all those years? She said that man loved helping people. Even if it meant taking from his mouth he was happy as long as he knew he helped someone else. That man died happy because he did everything he was put on this earth to do. Now back to the saying why me, you notice when your life is on the line finances, cars, and houses none of that stuff matters anymore. You began to cherish every breath of life you have and material things just do matter anymore. When all is said and done all you have is family and friends in the end. I’m going to fight this cancer with a purpose and now with a lot of soul searching. Carla had everyone in the room eye’s filled with water as she came to the end of her speech. It’s time to wrap this up I want to bring out a friend that has had my back since day one. She’s the owner of fashion house and a great designer who works hard to make her people look good. My friend Kathy Lee. Kathy came walking out with her make-up half smeared from crying but glowing at the same time. I want to thank everyone for coming out I really didn’t think the crowd would turn out like this but I’m blessed it did. Bruno had gotten a raise and Kathy spent more time now designing and keeping up with the latest fashions. Nyla was now sixteen attending high school. Her and Tony grew very close which was a problem for her family. Nyla only spoke of Tony to her mother but only as her friend. I have proof, I took pictures of you two leaving the motel today. Downstairs Jackie began to feel on the other side of the bed for Rick and noticed he was gone. She then began to hear voices coming from upstairs as she ran up the stairs. When Jackie ran in Nyla room she found Rick laying on the floor bleeding. Oh my god what happen? He tried to rape me cried Nyla. What call 911 now shouted Jackie! The ambulance came and rushed Rick to the hospital but it was too late he was dead on arrival.
