Re: Framing; Warehouse Manager and Framing Department Positions

Hobby Lobby – Naples Senior Management faced a crucial issue during the store opening and initial inventory creation caused by a lack of communication through and to the Warehouse Temporary Management. Competing and conflicting directions frustrated warehouse workers and created several safety issues that were not appropriately resolved by the Temporary Manager. There was no one point of “top-down contact” for the Senior management.

Following are my qualifications for the Warehouse Management position subject to pay and benefits.

History

During my tenure within NASJAX, the Materials Department enforced strict, written Warehouse Rules and Policies which each Team member is to read and signature. Personal protective clothing and equipment to OSHA specifications were mandatory (work boots, hard hats, eye protection, gloves especially in handling glass) and should the cost should be born by the Employee.

Introduction/Overview and Comment

A safe, orderly, efficient warehouse is a key to a successful operation. The warehouse plays an essential role in the way goods are sent, received, stored, and circulated throughout the facility. With so much going on and so much to keep track of, a warehouse may also have more potential for accidents than areas with more limited functions. So it's especially important to pay close attention to safety in the warehouse

If you were looking for warehouse housekeeping hazards, you might notice:

Objects or materials in aisles or on the floor, which become tripping hazards Materials stacked or stored loosely or insecurely; overloaded/overly wide pallets Protruding nails, fasteners, and other sharp objects Large items left where people can bump against them Trash strewn about that can cause someone to trip or slip. Flammable trash can, of

course, be a fire hazard Water, oil, or other liquid spills on the floor that can cause slips and fall Unbalanced loads—or loads you can't see over—can be dangerous to operators and others nearby; proper off-truck loading and stacking is a must.

Removing and policing this in the environment focuses on safety and efficient production.

Comment

The following are suggestions and comments that would be reviewed by Senior Hobby Lobby Management – Naples and implemented under their authorization by the Warehouse Manager.

Warehouse Access – Limited to Managers and Warehouse Team. Requests for inventory and supplies from the floor can be handled by Warehouse Team but more importantly returned warehouse supplies to be dropped off by Hobby Lobby employees for Warehouse Team re-inventory. If a Department head or employee is allowed in Warehouse Area, he/she should be accompanied by a Warehouse Team member. Team member can move boxes, pull inventory, hand truck, etc without the Employee having to touch or move the inventory controlled or being exposed to hazard.

The result of this is a cleaner, highly organized and efficient inventory control and a severely limited accident occurrence.

Medical Updates on Warehouse Team - with specific focus on medications that affect bleeding, heavy labor and machinery usage.

Receiving – Rules for designated turn-around areas for jacks; no openings allowed between truck bed and warehouse floor (recent injury cause by this); no fans in trucks (safety hazard); coordinated receive, off-truck and delivery to front of warehouse.

Warehouse subdivision – for temporarily stored items, permanent assigned space per department; trash collection, bin storage, etc. All things have a place.

I have a few dozen other suggestions that can be reviewed when and if appropriate. The above is a small sampling.

Cross-Trained With Framing

In the next week I will pass the Hobby Lobby Certification Test and can become the Cross-Trained employee.

Framing Department Head Position

Currently there is no one certified and capable of managing a small crew of Hobby Lobby framer and of the three other Team Members, no one capable of managing the department.

If it is desirable, I offer to take the Warehouse Manager position, install the Rules and Procedures, training a replacement and transition to Framing Department head at the appropriate time.

Thanks for your consideration and the opportunity,
