BOOK REVIEWS Fortschritte der Kiefer-und Gesichts-Chirurgie. By Prof. Dr Dr KARL SCHUCHARDT and Prof. Dr D r MARTIN WASSMUND. Pp. 268, with 291 illustrations. (Stuttgart: George Thierne Verlag. 1955.) This is the second volume of a year book presenting in collective form the recent advances in surgery of the mouth and face. Much of the material was read at the Congress of the German Society for the Study of Surgery of the Mouth and Face, held at Hamburg in 1955. The first 118 pages deal with facial paralysis of varying origin and the methods of correction thereof. The remainder of this volume deals with a miscellany of topics including a series of articles on aural reconstructions, facial tumours, and prosthetic appliances. A short summary in English accompanies each article by a foreign contributor, and this undoubtedly adds to the attractiveness of the book. The illustrations and the general standard of production are excellent. W. D. M. Sulfonamide und Antibiotica in der Zahn-, Mund-und Kieferheilkunde. By Prof. Dr Dr HERBERT HARNISCH. Pp. lO9, with 41 illustrations. (Miinchen: Carl Hanser Verlag. 1936.) This is the fifth volume of a series of twelve presentations on dental therapeutics. The subject matter in this case is sulphonamide and antibiotic treatment of lesions involving teeth, the mouth, and jaws. There is little new in this volume. Much of the material is essentially dental, and thus is of no especial interest to the plastic surgeon : it is nevertheless attractively laid out. A wide variety of antibiotics is dealt with in respect of origin, action, organismal spectrum covered, synergistic action, and use in the treatment of specific conditions. The author is to be congratulated on this clear exposition of modern dental therapeutics involving the sulphonamides and antibiotics. The standard of production and of the illustrations is excellent.
