The principle of national treatment requires that the goods and services of other countries be treated in the same way as those of your own country.

If special treatment is given to the goods and services of one country, they must be given to all WTO member countries. No one country should receive favors that distort trade.

The progress and well-being of humanity rest on its capacity to create and invent new works in the areas of technology and culture.

The legal protection of these new creations encourages the expenditure of additional resources, leading to further innovation.

The promotion and protection of intellectual property spurs economic growth, creates new jobs and industries, and enhances the quality and enjoyment of life.
