Winter Spring 2014Winter Spring 2014

From the Directorrsquos Chair Happy New YearI like many of you Irsquom sure canrsquot believe how quickly 2013 passed by but am grateful for the year it was Not only was it my fi rst full year at the Schauer Center (and an exhilarating one) but we had a few noteworthy fi rsts

The Schauer Center was the proud recipient of its fi rst-ever National Endowment for the Arts grant for The BIG Read October was chock-full of Poe-related events and fun activities for all Thank you to all the organizations throughout Washington county that partnered with us to make the program a success

We also launched our pARTicipate events in October pARTicipate events are an eff ort to serve our greater community bett er and welcome all especially newcomers in a relaxed atmosphere Our Wine amp Painting classes have been so popular that we have one scheduled every month from now through May

Wersquore looking forward to more pARTicipate events including our fi rst Sweethearts Swing Dance on Thursday February 13 which includes ballroom dance lessons prior to a Valentines Day-themed party And wersquore excited for a music-fi lled night with Whiskey of the Damned on Thursday March 13 as part of our St Patrickrsquos Day celebrations

Another fi rst was that we received funding from Potawatomi Bingo Casinorsquos Miracle on Canal Street in December As part of their 20th anniversary celebration the Schauer Center received $2633 Thank you

With the variety of opportunities and number of events we off er Irsquom always amazed when I meet people who have lived in the area for several years and havenrsquot heard about the Schauer Center Itrsquos also interesting how many people are unaware of our Community School of the Arts mdash itrsquos not just for children We welcome students of all ages

So my New Yearrsquos resolution for you is to encourage you to invite someone new to the Schauer Center or experience something new here for yourself If youre planning to att end our Season Sneak Peek on Sunday February 1 bring a neighbor family member co-worker or friend with you to help select our 2014-15 performances if yoursquove always been curious about an art form like painting or ballroom dance join us for one of our WinterSpring classes so that you can explore it fi rst-hand

Help us spread the word about all the great things happening at the Schauer Center mdash wersquore grateful for your help and your support in doing so

Thank you for being a part of what makes the Schauer Center great

Page 2: Winter Spring 2014 Newsletter
