This week, we would like to thank and recognize Dean Flores and Mike Hostinksy. They are taking the time to meet with our various industry teams at the monthly meetings to give high-level overviews of the services they offer and how the firm’s clients and prospects can benefit from their niche expertise. Since they are “industry-agnostic”, their services can benefit a huge range of WB clients. We appreciate the time they are taking to stop and explain what it is they do so that we can promote them as we see opportunities.

Please join us in applauding them for making this huge effort!

nt Melanie Monroe will be joining Tax Team 2 as an associate, and her first day with the firm will be next Monday, July 28th. She comes to WB from PwC, where she served as an associate for just over two years. There, she acted as a consultant on a firm-wide Independent Foreclosure Review, prepared hundreds of federal, state, and foreign returns, and trained new hires on the preparation return and documentation processes. Melanie earned her BS in Business Administration and Management from Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University, and her Masters in Taxation from Florida State University.

Please stop by to introduce yourself on Monday, and welcome her by connecting on LinkedIn here.

HR Reminders

Kim Hensarling wants to remind you of three key dates: 1) All employees have been given updated copies of the Employment and Confidentiality Agreement, which need to be signed and returned to HR by August 4th. 2) Supervisor meetings (reviews) will started this week and will be complete by August 15th. And 3) The next firm update meeting will be held upstairs in the Magnolia Conference Rooms on Tuesday, August 19.

It’s Survey Time!

WB has been a long-time winner of several awards for being a great place to work - these nominations and awards are the direct result of your input (and nothing else!) and we’re thrilled to continue to be in the running for these great honors.

You should have already received an email from Kim Hensarling with a link to “Quantum Dynamics”, a third party company working for the Atlanta Business Chronicle to award the “Best Places to Work in 2014”. Responses to this survey are due by August 6th. You will also receive (probably tomorrow, Friday, July 25th) an email directly from “Best Companies”, which is the survey for Accounting Today’s Best Accounting Firms to Work for 2014. We have always had a very high response percentage, and we thank you in advance for taking the time to let them know how you feel about working at WB!

offering more ... growth

Healthcare Specialist Valerie Barckhoff has provided additional value to an existing client, Emory Healthcare. Valerie will be providing revenue cycle management for them. Many other WB folks work with Emory, and we are excited to be able to continue to offer them more.

Our Healthcare Practice has been busy! Practice Leader Cheryl Yarbrough has also landed a new client for the WB roster - Woodhams Eye Clinic. This Atlanta-based company provides personalized vision correction surgery procedures that are safe, comfortable and effective. Cheryl will provide them business services, and Nicole Suk will work with them on the tax side.

Heidi LaMarca and John Henriquez will be working with a new client, Premier, Inc., on due diligence. Premier collects and analyzes clinical and financial data to improve efficiency of healthcare facilities. They’re a fantastic company; go online and check out all they do!

Congrats go out to and all who helped secure these opportunities for the firm!

Insights 2014 will be held on Thursday, November 13th at the Ritz Carlton in Buckhead this year. Speakers are still being selected, but we have confirmed with Doug MacGinnittie (Revenue Commissioner), Elmer Stancil (Department of Economic Development), Dr. Roger Tutterow (Mercer University), and David Cummings (Pardot and Atlanta Tech Village). Many of our own experts will speak as well. It’s going to be another fantastic event!

WB has been strong on the sponsorship front lately. We sponsored a very casual lunch for several hundred folks at Atlanta Tech Village last Friday. John Yeager, Michael Maiorano, and Leah Bendig represented the firm. We are also sponsoring Charity Weekend at Dunwoody Country Club on August 22-24; the event will benefit Special Olympics, Camp Southern Ground, and Special Pops Tennins. Last but not least for now, WB is sponsoring ACG Wine Tasting again this year. The wine tasting will be held at the Mason Murer Gallery of Fine Art on Tuesday, September 16th.

International Tax Practice Leader Brad Dickson shared a great blog entry with us titled, “IRS Cuts Penalties and Streamlines its Offshore Disclosure Program.” Be sure to go online and check out his expert opinions on the matter.

WB is also up and running with the Umano app. This app narrates our blog entries so you can stay up to speed from anywhere. Check out the details on that here - and share with your clients, please!

offering more ... fun

In continuing efforts to show our appreciation for all the hard work and time our employees invest in the Firm, we are hosting several fun summer events.

Next Wednesday, July 30th, the WOW! Food Truck will serve lunch to all employees outside. So that WOW! Food Truck knows who they should serve, you will receive a food ticket for your lunch. Keep in mind that WOW! is not bringing drinks since we have plenty in the break room. If you plan to find a place outside to eat, you may want to take a drink with you. There will not be any tables and chairs set up in the parking lot.

On Tuesday and Wednesday, August 5th & 6th, our popular in-office chair massages return. Massages will be done in the Cypress conference room (next to David Kloess’s office). To sign up for a massage, pick your time here.

Windham Brannon Braves Game on Thursday, August 14 against the Dodgers. Please note that the game starts at 12:10 p.m.

All attending employees will receive a Braves ticket with concession credits added onto the individual ticket. We encourage taking Marta to the game or carpooling. Parking passes may be purchased in advance if you notify HR.

Kim Hensarling is sponsoring this month’s Jeans for a Cause Day to benefit Children of Fallen Patriots. The organization provides college scholarships to military children who have lost a parent in the line of duty. One of Kim’s good friend’s husband, Tom Kennedy, was killed in Afghanistan a year and a half ago, and she is collecting donations by way of our Jeans Day to give in his memory. You can learn more about the charity here.

We appreciate your donation of $5 or more to support this cause. Remember if you would like to use your contributions to the WB Foundation as a tax deduction, please be sure to include your name with any cash donation. Please make checks out to “WB Foundation” and bring them to the reception desk on Friday. Don’t forget to grab a sticker to show you are supporting the cause!
