The classical music series includes some of the biggest names in the business with Centre debut recitals from Alina Ibragimova, Andreas Haefliger, Melvyn Tan and Barbara Hannigan, as well as performances by the Nash Ensemble of London, Sitkovetsky Piano Trio and Elias String Quartet.

The new lunchtime concert series devoted to outstanding younger artists has proven to be a great success and we are delighted to continue this programme with performances by London Symphony Orchestra co-principal trombonist Peter Moore, pianist Clare Hammond and jazz pianist Will Butterworth. We also continue to screen our hugely popular live opera and ballet performances from the Royal Opera House Covent Garden and English National Opera at the London Coliseum.

Our series of concerts and workshops devoted to children and families is as rich as ever, and the Creative Learning Programme has never been busier. This season we have teamed up with the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment and Spitalfields Music to present two award-winning programmes – Watercycle and the Musical Rumpus – and don’t miss the new music and magic show from the Classic Buskers with Neil Henry, one of Britain’s best-known magicians.

We are also especially pleased to announce WMC’s first off-site performances – following the success of our World War One Centenary commemoration in the Autumn of 2014, we are delighted to present a concert by harpsichordist Sophie Yates at Longleat House.

The jazz series opens with a visit from pianist Gwilym Simcock with The Impossible Gentlemen, and features an unmissable cabaret evening with Claire Martin. Jason Rebello returns for the final concert in his 2014-2015 Artist Residency.

As always there are plenty of opportunities to find out more about our featured artists and composers through our extensive series of pre-concert talks, public masterclasses, workshops, lectures and informal performances.

We are delighted to announce this world-class season of international performers and hope that you will enjoy reading through our brochure. We look forward to welcoming you to the newly-refurbished Centre during the season.

Melvyn Tan’s sensibility for keyboard nuance, tonal shadings and the singing melodic lines are ideally matched to the works in

this recital. The programme explores the evocative Nocturnes of Field and Chopin alongside movements from Variations for Judith, a commissioning project he has championed since 2007. The Singaporean-born pianist is one of the few artists who has succeeded in performing on both the modern piano and the eighteenth century fortepiano.

Powerful, enthralling close harmony folklore song

Forged from the voices of Hannah James (Kerfuffle, Demon Barbers), Hazel Askew (Askew Sisters) and Rowan Rheingans (Fidola), Lady Maisery explores three-part vocal harmony to breathtaking effect, through brave reworkings of traditional ‘old folk’ songs: of protest, of warning, of the sinned-against.

Reviving the old art of ‘diddling’ (tune-singing), gently adorned with an entrancing blend of accordion, harp, banjo, concertina, fiddle, ban-sitar and percussive clog dancing, this is a hauntingly beautiful foray into folklore singing.

CREATIVE LEARNING PROGRAMMEWiltshire Music Centre’s Creative Learning Programme provides local schools, families and extended communities access to high quality music making and participatory experiences. Every year, 40,000 people engage in our programme through a combination of Centre-led projects, one-off events and hosted regular activities. We aspire to develop engaging learning opportunities and nurture emerging talent using our professional artistic programme as a catalyst for creativity.

This Season sees the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment’s nationwide project Watercycle visiting the centre in April. Watercycle is a site specific orchestral journey through urban and rural landscapes of England taking each of the host locations waterways as its inspiration. The project spans all ages working with tots, schools, local composers and members of the community including a specially composed Digital Overture using found ‘water’ sounds from Bradford on Avon and neighbouring communities. See page 18 for more information on the events taking place.

We are also excited to be partnering with award winning organisation Spitalfields Music and welcoming their innovative interactive performance, the Musical Rumpus, to our stage. The performance is designed specifically for the 0 – 2.5 age group incorporating an in-the-round experience using Henry

Purcell’s Fairy-Queen as the central body of repertoire. We would like to welcome families to come and use the Centre before and after the event to enjoy stories from the library and delicious locally sourced food. See page 24 for more information on the event.

Our newly recruited Young Curators aged 13 – 20 have begun their work in supporting us in the design of our Creative Learning Programme, events and marketing to reach young audiences. If you or someone you know are interested in being part of this venture, watch this space!

Behind the scenes our team works hard on running and developing our extended year round programme. Please contact our Creative Learning Manager, Tamsin Oldham, for more information on how you could take part: [email protected].

SUPPORT USWiltshire Music Centre is one of the finest concert halls in the region, hosting world-class musicians. The purpose-built auditorium has a fantastic acoustic. This jewel in the South West’s crown also nurtures emerging professional and amateur musicians. It is a testament to local people power and all of those who helped raise money for the Centre; determined to have an independent venue, dedicated to the best music, right on their doorstep.

As a registered charity, we rely on donations from supporters and friends to support the concerts and our Creative Learning work.

YOUNG ARTIST FUND 2015 supporting exceptional young talent

The Young Artist Fund enables us to support young artists at the very start of their professional careers. Since the Fund was launched in 2012 we have

been able to support over 10 young musicians, offering a valuable platform for performance and opportunities to stretch and develop their talent here at Wiltshire Music Centre. The Fund is playing a major role in supporting the performances of virtuoso trombonist Peter Moore, pianists Clare Hammond and Will Butterworth, and the Sitkovetsky Piano Trio this season, but we hope to support many more.

First made possible through the gift of a legacy, the Fund only continues thanks to the generosity of our audiences, Friends and supporters. To make a donation, please contact 01225 860 110 or email [email protected].

SPONSOR A SEAT For £250 dedicate a seat to an individual, group or business.
