All Wiley X styles are ANSI & EN.166 rated, because we test and mark all of our frames, and lenses with the appropriate ANSI & EN.166 certifications.

Wiley X frames and lenses must withstand the weight of a 500 gram pointed projectile dropped from a height of 1,3 meters. That pretty much ensures that they’ll stand up to anything you will encounter.

ANSI HIGH VELOCITY IMPACT/VO BALLISTIC TESTS

COMFORT & STYLE

Frames and lenses must withstand the impact of a .25 inch diameter steel ball fired at 150 fps (ANSI) or .15 projectiles fired at 640-660 fps (spectacle VOBallistic). Goggles must withstand .22 projectiles fired at a rate of 550-560 fps. This ensures our lenses and frames are practically indestructible.

Shamir HMCWiley X has chosen to provide this quality coating as standard on all our RX glasses. HMC stands for = HARD MULTI COATING. This is a crucial treatment all polycarbonate lenses should be treated with to protect the lens material and make it last longer.

HMC includes: 1. Backside anti reflective coating 2. Hydrophobic layer to prevent water marks 3. UV400 protection 4. Hard scratch coating (front/back)

As-Worn TechnologyTM

It determines three essential measurements: Pantoscopic tilt, vertex distance, and panoramic angle to ensure that the prescription experienced by the customer, when the lens is fitted in the frame, is the same as the prescriptions measured by the optician. Normally a high curved frame would force the center of the lens in an outside direction, but with Shamir’s technologies the optimal center of vision is in your line of sight

This individual aspheric lens comes with a wider and clearer field of vision compared with the common stock lenses. The Shamir AttitudeTM lenses are revolutionary and they are tailor-made, which is necessary for the difficult measurements of wraparound eyewear with high base curves.

What is Anti-reflective Coating?The reason why an anti-reflective coating is applied on a lens is that all lens surfaces act like mirrors until anti-reflective treatment is done. When light hits the lens surface, it does not go completely through, but gets partially reflected on the surface like on a mirror.

For eyewear users these reflections, which arise on both sides of the lenses, are very annoying and causes blurred visions, reduced light transmission and clarity.

Wiley X requires this anti-reflective coating in all three available coatings (HMC, Glacier and Glacier Plus) to eliminate glare and offer you perfect vision. Furthermore, it gives a cosmetically better result, when you see the eyes of the user clearly through the lenses as illustrated below.

Shamir Glacier™If the HMC coating is not enough for you, you draw benefit from choosing a Glacier coating to increase protection of the lenses. In general Wiley X Europe offers these coatings a lot cheaper compared to other lens manufacturers, so it is money well spend.

The Glacier coating includes everything from HMC plus: 1. Anti-static layer on the lens 2. External super hydrophobic layer to prevent water marks 3. Oil phobic layer for easier cleaning 4. Double hard scratch coating to provide increased scratch protection ensuring enhanced lens lifetime

Shamir Glacier Plus®

Crystal clear and glare-free vision

In cooperation with Shamir, Wiley X is launching Shamir Glacier Plus, an innovative anti-reflective coating, which increases light transmission and reduces glare and reflections. Glacier Plus improves the optical performance and cosmetic appearance, with no unwanted reflections.

Glacier Plus contains everything that is in HMC and Glacier. Glacier Plus is just an improved and further developed version of the Glacier treatment.What makes Glacier Plus so extraordinarily good is its improved and even harder surface. The Bayer Ratio test, conducted at NSL and Colts Laboratories showed that Glacier Plus is 20-30% stronger than the nearest competitor (measured hardness of approx. 18). This hard coating also has abrasion resistance values 3.5 times higher than the market standards, delivers excellent scratch protection and ensures a greater durability of the glasses.

What is Soft Mirror coating?In co-operation with Shamir, Wiley X Europe offers Soft Mirror coating in a number of different colors. The Soft Mirror coating is applied to the surface of the lens in order to limit glare, increase absorption and reduce infrared. Soft Mirror coating is good for snow sports and water activities, but be aware that Shamir’s Soft Mirror is less visually dominant compared to standard mirror coatings. Wiley X & Shamir offer:

• Available in a transition grey and brown• There is no remaining color in the glass – becomes 100% clear when it lightens up.• The lens is affected by direct UV light only and does not change through a car window.

Transition XTRactive• Available in grey• There is a modest 5% grey tint left, when the lens lightens up• The lens is affected by visible light and does also change through a car windshield

Transition SOLFX• Available in Fire Brown, Power Purple, True Gray and Thunder Brown (see illustration below)• The lens is naturally 30% tinted and becomes darker depending on the light conditions• The lens is affected by direct UV light and does not change through a car windshield

SOLID COLORSBROWN - Enhances contrast (objects appear sharper) by blocking a larger percentage of blue light (compared to grey). Provides a warmer appearance to colors. Works well in variable light conditions. Available with polarized filter as well. Light transmission (non-polarized): 15%

GREY - Reduces light intensity without altering the color of objects. Provides most natural color vision but does not enhance contrast. Available with polarized filter as well. Light transmission (non-polarized): 15%

GREEN - Provides a cool, soothing tone to colors. Often used to create the classic look of aviator-style sunglasses. Filters some blue light and enhances contrast in low light conditions. Available with polarized filter as well. Light transmission (non-polarized): 15%

ORANGE - Enhances contrast but will distort colors, so it may not be suitable for activities that require accurate color recognition. Enhances depth perception in overcast/shaded conditions. Light transmission: 35%

POLARIZED YELLOW - Enhances contrast but will distort colors, so it may not be suitable for activities that require accurate color recognition. Enhances depth perception in overcast/shaded conditions and removes glare from shiny surfaces. Light transmission: 65%

Quickly adapts from clear indoors to fully dark in brightest sun. Continuously adapt to changing light (UV) so they are always the shade you need them to be. Light transmission: 95% to 12% (in sunlight)

TRANSITIONS® BROWN & TRANSITION GREY

Specifically designed to go extra dark outdoors, a comfortable tint indoors, and they activate moderately inside a car. Light transmission: 85% to 10% (in sunlight), 50% in a car

Naturally 30% colored and goes darker outdoors. Engineered to enhance critical elements, while providing optical clarity, increased contrast sensitivity, and depth perception. Only available with Glacier & Glacier Plus coating, not HMC.

STORY TIMESTORY TIME“When it is tough on the ocean, the sun and wind is

powerful, your eyes are red from saltwater, and the boat is squeaking more and more, it is nice to know that what you have on your head just works. I have been testing my Wiley X to the limit; I have even accidently stepped on them. I have broken a lot of the gear on the ocean racers, but I still haven’t broken a pair of Wiley X sunglasses. The safety within the glasses is crucial to me, if and when a rope snaps and the nearest eye specialist is 2000 km away. The weight on our tails easily reaches 10 tons, and I only have one of my eyes left, do I need to say more.

“My name is Nathan, and I was involved in a flash fire in an oil field in October 2010. “MyWiley X shooting glasses probably saved my eyes “On November 19th 2011 I was invited to small game hunting nearby the German city Gräpel. We were excited about the hunt, because the area usually offers plenty of game. The weather was against us though with a thick fog hanging over the area. Due to the weather the safety on the parole had been increased, so low shooting was banned – even so it almost ended fatale for me. I was placed on a bridge over a channel with a railing as my only cover. After a slow start the drive turned in our favor, a flock of pheasant hens (protected) flew by. The fog was so thick that I could see neither hunters nor beaters, and a deer passed close by me without even noticing me.Suddenly a bunch of pheasants took off and the shots fell close.
