  • 1. My Wicked ProblemLisa Raymond, CEP 812
A big part of my responsibility as a Library Media Specialist is to teach my students how to do research.
I needed a way to give instruction about how to do research and create presentations that will allow my students more time to work and the ability to work at their own pace.
  • 2. My Wicked Solution
I decided to create a Webquest template to modify for any research project.
This way, each time my students use the Webquest, my students will be able to see a regular structure to the research and presentation process, work at their own pace, and receive the instruction and repetition they need.
  • 3. My PowerPoint WebQuestTechnology and Pedagogy
Using a slideshow to give instruction gives my students the opportunity to have the entire assignment accessible in one place while allowing them to focus on each step as long as they need to.
Using PowerPoint did not require me to spend any money and is easy for me and my students to use.
  • 4. My PowerPoint WebQuestTechnology and Content
Using PowerPoint eliminates the need for me to provide repetitive verbal instruction or make paper copies of instructional materials; my students have everything they need in one place.
Using PowerPoint also makes it easy for me to provide my students with embedded tutorials and links to other resources.
  • 5. My PowerPoint WebQuestPedagogy and Content
Using the PowerPoint template allows me to create higher quality assignments.
I can spend time developing projects from a problem-solving approach that will encourage more critical thinking from my students.
I can also add content such as video tutorials that assist my struggling students.

-makes the important statement that A Webquest is a scaffolded learning structure.

    Supporting Research
  • 7. Plan for Implementation
    Step 1- Create entire Template
Step 2- Implement partially with 5th grade
Step 3- Implement partially with 4th grade
Step 4- continue to edit and modify template in the future for any research projects for any grades
  • 8. My students already knew a few PowerPoint basics, so it was easy for them to open the file and navigate through the slides.
I thought flipping between screens on their computers would be frustrating, but my students managed with ease.
It was great for me to be able to create an assignment quickly and then be available to my students as they worked as individuals or in groups.
    Indications of Success
  • 9. Future Modifications
I realized I left out instruction in my template about how to take notes and record information during research. I will add this information to the template before I use it again.
I will also add more audio to the template to help my struggling readers.
