Leeds Reach Innovative practice

A mum and qualified primary teacher, commented:‘I felt that Leeds REACH was a good alternative to school and provided that temporary safety net that Ben needed at that time. Ben benefited such a lot. He was going through certain issues and needed that break from school. If he hadn’t come here, I know he would have been permanently excluded – and where would we be then?’

Pyramid SchemeUsing volunteers

‘The change in some of our pupils has been quite dramatic. They are much more engaged in lessons and have actually developed the confidence to answer questions and even volunteer answers. All the children have been returning back to class after your session full of enthusiasm and happy’ Headteacher of participating school‘It is most important that as a school we support and nurture

the sociall and emotional development of our children and the partnership with Barnardo’s allows us to target and provide a quality learning experience for some of our vulnerable children. The raising of self esteem for quiet and withdrawn children is extremely important and the benefits of Pyramid are obvious in the children’s enthusiasm and engagement with the club.’ Headteacher of participating school

Whole family support

Jan Liverslage, HeadTeacher, Amwell school

“In recent weeks I have had the pleasure of working with a family who has funding for one of your support workers.

“The family is receiving intervention from Julie which is making a significant and impressive difference. I am certain that the support will enable the family to progress to acceptable levels of responsibility towards the children.”
