DESCRIPTION

The unemployed get labels pasted on them like Scarlet Letters, and must fight through these while fighting to find work. Typical labels include: Lazy, Morale Issues, Bad Worker, etc. In reality, great, talented people lose their jobs due to events like mergers, outsourcing, low sales, etc. In this presentation, I hope to dispel some of the labels, and show how Inkler.org can help through their social networking site, www.inkler.org. The site is exclusive to unemployed job seekers, employers and recruiters. With creative profile tools, video resume's, SlideShare presentations and more, we hope to show the unemployed in the best light possible.

• Reporters will now take their own photos so cut the photography team

• Revenue is down by 25% so we need to cut 40% of the manufacturing team

Most unemployed people are like you. Good people, good workers with solid backgrounds. They just happened to be at the wrong place at the wrong time…

WHAT IFOne Friday morning, you are asked to go to your managers office and you see someone from HR in the room?

We all walk out the door with our heads held high because we are confident in our skills, have a solid background, great references and tons of connections. Then we find out:

• There is one job listing for every seven people who are unemployed

• A large amount of job listings are duplicates making the number above even worse

• Many companies are shooting for 50% referral hires, so if you don’t know them…

• Companies are putting more of an emphasis on finding and hiring “passive” (currently employed) candidates

• You see job listings that state “must be employed to apply”

• You are 1 of 140 candidates who applied for the job (and you know in your gut that 50% of them are younger with MBA’s)

• You go to an interview and they tell you the position was filled, but another position is open at 50% of the salary

• After a few months, your connections become more distant

• Finally, you figure out that you now have to overcome all of the “unemployed” labels
