• If you have no clue what Vocaloid is, I’m the person you should turn to for almost anything on

the subject.

See, I became immersed in Vocaloid not very long ago – not even a year ago, in fact – but I don’t think I would have become a die-hard

if not the for the wonderful show of Pokémon.

On official record, there are eight Japanese and seven U.S/UK-based Vocaloids, all created by Crypton Future Media (Japanese is cooler, so I’m showing you them instead.)

First, I should probably explain what Vocaloid is before I fill you in.

Each of the programs has been used in some form or another, so there are easily over 500,000 songs and counting created

with the Vocaloid programs.

The true beauty of Vocaloid is that the music is not only created by big-name producers: it’s also

created by normal everyday people like us.

The variety songs in a Hatsune Miku (the most popular Japanese Vocaloid) concert is all

composed by 20 overall composers!

Alright; back to Pokémon. I began watching Pokémon when I was in the

sixth grade.

They were so dang cute with their humongous eyes and mouths that didn’t even form real words as they spoke; this began nurturing my love for anime and

manga.

It wasn’t long after I began to watch the show that I discovered the video games that had been around since my older brother’s age (about twelve years

difference.)

To fill my time between my video gaming, I began to search the Internet and

libraries.

I looked here and there for the different animes that had been written or animated, exploring the various

possibilities such as Avatar: The Last Airbender and Inu-Yasha.

Time flew by, and before I knew it I was entering high school, and I searched through the various

after-school activities to find one that would interest me.

Immediately, around the school I saw flyers for Anime/Manga Club. . . coincidence?

Page 9: Why Am I Addicted to Vocaloid?

I joined the club and made all sorts of new friends, was even introduced to some

animes that I’d never seen before such as D.N. Angel and Ouran Highschool Host

Club.

It was here for the first time that I really caught a good glimpse of the technological wonder of Vocaloid, which was from a live

Hatsune Miku concert in Tokyo.

While watching the video, I recalled a memory of seeing the hologram before on an anime site called TinierMe, and I later

scolded myself for not paying closer attention.

I watched in amazement as the “pop star” danced and sang on stage, causing hundreds of people to scream in adoration and morphed me into

one of them.

Now that I have discovered Vocaloid, I hope to save up my money and buy my

own program.

I hope to use either the Hatsune Miku or Megurine Luka program to accompany the

song that I’m writing, and become filthy rich.
