L.A.P.S.

L.A.P.S. stands for League for Animals and People of Summit.

One purpose of this organization is to help low-income families pay vet bills.

They have a fundraiser every winter called the Dog Terra.

Animal Shelter

The Animal Shelter helps homeless pets (like dogs, cats and guinea pigs)

They have been in the county for over 30 years and are located in Frisco.

If you would like to adopt a dog or puppy, it would cost you $110. If you would like a cat, the cost is $90.

Animal Rescue of the Rockies

The purpose of this group is to help homeless pets find homes.

They have found homes for over 100 dogs and cats. They have a store in Breckenridge called “For Pets

Sake” and all the money raised goes to Animal Rescue.

They have been in our county for five years and have about 25 volunteers.

What We Did To Help

We had a school store every Friday for two months. We sold school supplies and raised $122.

We gave $61 to the Animal Shelter and $61 to the Animal Rescue of the Rockies.

We helped with the Dog Terra and sold dog biscuits and zipper pulls. We raised $94.

What Can You Do To Help?

Be a responsible pet person. Give your pet proper food, water, exercise, and spay or neuter your pet.

Respect the environment when you are hiking. Pack in your supplies and take your trash out with you. Don't disturb animals in their homes.

Collect blankets and food for your local animal shelter.

Raise money for your local animal organization. Bake sales, garage sales, car washes, and collection cans are good projects.

Be kind and respectful to people and animals.

Conclusion

Last year 40,000 homeless pets were euthanized in Colorado. There are organizations in Summit County trying to help these animals, but they need your help, too. Please make sure all animals are spayed or neutered. If you are thinking of getting a pet, check out the animal shelter first. Remember, be kind and respectful to ALL animals.
