Who we areWhat we do
Where we are going How you can help
our primary mission is to advance organ donation through scientific research in order to improve outcomes for donors, their families, recipients and society as a whole
501c corporation formed January, 2011
Current membership represents involvement of all 11 UNOS regions, 25 OPOs
12 transplant centers
Who we are
ATC poster presentation 2012 Charles Wright, MD, Lifelink of FL
8.6% of 2127 referrals to 5 OPO’s treated with hypothermia suggested increase in OTPD in patients treated with hypothermia versus those not treated with hypothermia
What we do
Prospective study of OTPD from anoxic donors treated with and without hypothermia
20 OPO’s 1296 donors enrolled data analysis under way
What we do
1st RFP granted 2014 $20,000 Amy Friedman, MD Kristin Delli Carpini LiveOnNY How many biopsies does a kidney require
$10,000 Bryan Tillman, MD University of Pittsburgh A vascular isolation catheter to mitigate warm ischemia of
donor organs among donation after cardiac death donors
What we do
Not all requests for support are financial Pediatric intensivist evaluated donor management protocols, guidelines and goals employing an on-line survey tool and follow-up focused interview
100% participation rate of 58 OPO’s
Submitted to Pediatric Critical Care, July 2015
What we do
Not all requests for support are financial • Wrote letter of support for Kiran Khush, MD,
Stanford for NIH grantEvidence-Based Evaluation and Acceptance of Donor Hearts for Transplantation
• Facilitated participation in the study
What we do
Intervention trial examining effect of pre-conditioning agent on mitochondrial function and whether alterations in mitochondrial function can be employed to assess suitability of organs for transplant
Where we are going
Collaborative review and scoring of grant applications addressing core mission
Independent ethical oversight of projects from submission to completion
