VisitRochester wants your business—we believe Rochester can meet all your convention needs and that we have the professional expertise and tools to make it happen.  Perhaps you’ve not thought about bringing a meeting or convention to Rochester—one phone call will connect you to the right people to make your meeting or convention a success.  The VisitRochester team will take care of all the details.

From our award-winning Rochester Riverside Convention Center to top-notch lodging facilities, to our world class museums and attractions, Rochester has everything you’ll need to produce a first-class event—including VisitRochester‘s professional convention staff to assist you.

Every meeting or convention held in Rochester is given VIP treatment.  Attention to detail is a hallmark of our customized convention services.  Whether it’s a site inspection, pre-convention promotional materials (video, images, personalized promotional flyers, etc.), delegate housing and reg-istration assistance, professional hospitality staffing, assistance with local media, spouse tours, or an online services directory, the VisitRochester convention sales and services team is ready to help.

The area has much to offer. Meeting and convention attendees can take advantage of our abundant community assets including over 11 colleges and universities, rich cultural resources, unique off-site meeting venues, and yes, more per capita golf holes than any other city its size.

Additionally, Rochester is easily accessible from the New York State Thruway, Amtrak, and Greater Rochester International Airport.

Rochester’s rich entrepreneurial history is reflected today in emerg-ing technologies in such fields as optics, fuel cell, engineering, medical research, and education. Our strong faith community continues to draw faith-based meetings and conventions from across the United States and beyond.

In fact, Rochester continues to host successful meetings and conven-tions in these fields—as well as others.  Why not?  We have a wealth of top notch speakers on these subjects (and many more), right here in our community.

Our nightlife is experiencing a resurgence of activity that will have attendees deliberating on which to choose—music, theatre, dance, gal-leries, fine dining restaurants (at affordable prices) or even lectures by well-known writers. The “East End” is anchored by the Eastman Theatre and the Eastman School of Music and has given rise to trendy restau-rants, coffeehouses, and intimate bars and clubs.  The “St. Paul Quarter,” also located in Rochester’s downtown district, offers restaurants and nightclubs with live music, R&B, jazz, and more—even salsa lessons!

As mentioned, our convention sales and services team is always ready to accommodate your meeting needs.  Information on meeting planning in Rochester is also available on our website, www.meetinrochester.com.

VisitRochester is pleased to partner with the Rochester Business Jour-nal to bring you Where to Meet, Where to Stay. We are confident this pub-lication will prove to be most informative and valuable in planning your future meetings or conventions. Please give us a call, we’re ready to serve.

We hope this guide serves as a useful tool for selecting meeting, convention and

hospitality facilities in the Albany-Saratoga, Buffalo Niagara, Rochester and Syracuse-Central New York areas.

We compiled this guide by offering hoteliers and the owners of meeting and banquet facilities in the four regions the opportunity to provide detailed information about their properties and services.

This collaborative publication has a readership of more than 200,000 and is a supplement in The Business Review in Albany; Business First in the Buffalo Niagara area; the Rochester Business Journal; and the Central New York Business Journal, serving Syracuse, the Mohawk Valley and Greater Binghamton.

We’d especially like to thank our sponsor: Visit Rochester.

New York’s Capital Region is known as the center of state government, but

its history, arts and entertainment ven-ues, diverse restaurant scene, growing technology sector and elite educational institutions also distinguish it as a prime business destination.

The four-county area, mostly sand-wiched between the Hudson and Mohawk rivers, and its four most-visited cities—Albany, Saratoga Springs, Sche-nectady and Troy—has hotel, conference and convention space for groups of all sizes (See listings beginning on page 8).

A few of the more popular entertain-ment venues include the Times Union Center and The Egg in Albany, historic Proctors in Schenectady, Saratoga Per-forming Arts Center in Saratoga Springs and the landmark Troy Savings Bank Music Hall in Troy.

The region is attracting more inter-

national visitors—and permanent resi-dents—as its tech sector grows. Many come to work at the prestigious College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering at the University at Albany, and at Glo-balFoundries. The computer chip maker is building a $4.6 billion manufacturing plant in southern Saratoga County, about 25 miles north of Albany.

GlobalFoundries employment will grow from the current 1,110 workers to 1,400 by 2014. CNSE, meanwhile, employs 2,500, many of whom work for private, international companies that share research space at—and collabo-rate with—the nanocollege.

“Diversity is taking on a whole new meaning for us. ” said Michele Vennard, CEO of the Albany County Convention & Visitors Bureau.

Albany attracted $786 million in tour-ism revenue in 2010, or half of the $1.5 billion generated from all of Albany

County and five surrounding counties.“We’re a mature destination that’s

been well located for 400 years. Once we get people here, it’s really an easy sell,” Vennard said.

Mark E. Baker, president of the Sara-toga City Center Authority, echoed those sentiments.

Saratoga Springs, already a draw because of its iconic Saratoga Race Course and summer thoroughbred sea-son, continues to cement itself as a year-round destination, he said.

“Conferences tell us their numbers go up because attendees are familiar with Saratoga,” Baker said.

This city’s historic downtown is lined with casual and fine dining restaurants, boutiques and specialty shops.

“This community was built on hos-pitality, and we continue to be a hospi-table host,” Baker said. “We’re a very attractive package.”

16 • BUFFALO Where to Meet, Where to Stay 2012

■ “Buffalo-Niagara is on a roll and is on

the radar screens of savvy

travelers looking for a des-

tination that hasn’t suffered

the kind of homogenization

that increasingly makes one

American city look like every

other ... Buffalo retains many

of its unique customs and tra-

ditions, as well as a kind of

throwback look and feel.”

Edward HealyVice president of marketing,

Visit Buffalo Niagara

Visitors come to the Buf-falo Niagara region for lots of reasons, and one

of them is the vibrant arts and cultural scene. This year promises to be extra special: 2012 marks the 150th anniver-sary of Albright-Knox Art Gallery, wide-ly regarded as a world-class gallery of contemporary art.

A self-described hub of artistic and cultural energies, the Albright-Knox invites you and yours to share in the celebration.

“Since its founding as The Buffalo Fine Arts Academy in 1862, through today, the Gallery has taken risks in collecting and exhibiting the art of its time, giving rise to an extraordinary collection of art,” the website states. “The Gallery’s 150th year will be partic-ularly exciting, with major exhibitions exploring its history and future and special events celebrating its found-

ing, its role in the Western New York community, and its collecting activity throughout the years.”

Simply put, it’s a cool place, says Gary Praetzel, Ph.D., dean of the Col-lege of Hospitality and Tourism Man-agement at Niagara University.

“There are many things about Buffalo that no one would expect. An example is the Albright-Knox,” he says. “I don’t think many people would expect that caliber of art museum here in a mid-sized city such as Buffalo. And obvi-ously there’s a whole range of other galleries here. The other part of this is who would expect the number of theater companies that we offer? From Shea’s Performing Arts Center to neigh-borhood theater companies, we have a tremendous range and richness in this region.”

And there you have it -- around here, there’s something for everyone.

From Buffalo, known as the Queen City on Lake Erie, to Niagara Falls, N.Y., which boasts the world-famous waterfalls and a unique history as a center of Native American culture, the region is a prime destination. There are myriad things to see and do, along with a friendly reputation, natural wonders and superb accommodations.

Area tourism leaders say it’s well worth checking out, whether it’s a trade group looking for a unique place to hold a convention or leisure travel-ers searching for some hot spots. You’ll find what you want and need right here in Western New York, including restau-rants, shopping, sports and recreation, natural and manmade treasures to view and explore, architectural jewels that earn national attention, state-of-the-art hotels and conference facilities, festi-vals and special events year-round.

This is a region that truly shines,

according to Edward Healy, vice presi-dent of marketing for Visit Buffalo Niag-ara, the former Buffalo Niagara Conven-tion and Visitors Bureau.

“There are plenty of reasons to choose Buffalo Niagara as a travel destination,” Healy says. “For conven-tioneers, (it’s) a highly affordable and easily accessible choice. The Buffalo Niagara Convention Center has recently undergone a multimillion-dollar renova-tion and upgrading of its facilities and amenities. Virtually every hotel property within walking distance of the conven-tion center has also been renovated and updated within the last year or two. And the Buffalo Niagara International Airport remains one of the least-expensive air-ports in the country with a very compet-itive array of low-cost carriers servicing this market.

“In addition, Buffalo Niagara’s exem-plary reputation for service and hospi-tality make it a very attractive choice for meeting planners,” he says.

Fresh off a prestigious national confer-ence in late 2011, the region is basking in the afterglow of being described as “undoubtedly one of America’s greatest architectural cities” by Stephanie Meeks, president of the National Trust for His-toric Preservation in Washington, D.C.

“You have something really special here, and your hard work – often against steep odds – to preserve it has won the respect of the preservation community,” she told city leaders last fall.

Described as the Super Bowl of cultural tourism, the National Preservation Con-ference attracted more than 2,500 visitors Oct. 19-22 for an up-close look at the architectural, cultural and industrial heri-tage of Buffalo Niagara. The economic impact has been estimated at $4 million.

“The importance of the 2011 National Trust Conference cannot be overstated,” says Michael Schmand, executive direc-tor, Buffalo Place Inc. “The conference was a successful endeavor – placing Buffalo on par with much larger cities. It showcased our architectural and cul-tural assets to the world. It also made Buffalonians realize and appreciate all our wonderful region has to offer.

“The timing of the conference was fortuitous as it went hand-in-hand with the success of Canalside (on Buffalo’s waterfront),” Schmand says. “In 2011,

the Erie Canal Harbor Development Corp. embraced the concept of lighter, quicker, cheaper, which resulted in a vibrant, activity-driven waterfront expe-rience. Programming was expanded as ‘The Story of Buffalo’ was showcased to visitors.”

Visitors to Buffalo Niagara can expect to find something new and different every year.

“There was daily programming on-site, from the introduction of the Queen City Ferry to the new food operation, beach area, children’s activities and concerts,” Schmand says. “In late June 2011, Buf-falo Place moved our Thursday at the Square concert series to the Erie Canal Harbor site, which resulted in a fantastic summer of music on the Buffalo water-front.”

To the north is Niagara Falls, a wonder of the world that speaks for itself in so many ways.

“For virtually every segment of the traveling public, Niagara Falls remains a wonder of the world that is on every-one’s bucket list of places they abso-lutely must visit,” says Healy of Visit Buffalo Niagara. “The Niagara Falls State Park offers visitors a relatively pristine and intact experience of the natural side of the falls and the Maid of the Mist and Cave of the Winds are truly legendary travel experiences that never lose their appeal.”

He adds: “The natural attractions of Niagara Falls and the cultural attrac-tions of Buffalo complement one another extremely well and make Buffalo Niagara a very compelling place to visit.”

The local hospitality industry caters to visitors during all four seasons, from individuals and families to students and senior citizens. It’s affordable and acces-sible, according to Pratezel of Niagara

University. “When you look at hotel prices here,

it’s very affordable. (Same for) airfares coming in and out of the Buffalo air-port,” says Pratezel, past board chair-man of Visit Buffalo Niagara. “And then on top of that, it’s an easy-drive market for a good percentage of the population of the United States. It’s a complete des-tination. It has something for everyone.”

The Theodore Roosevelt National Historic Site brings the presidential legend to life through tours and interactive exhibits. The once-private Buffalo mansion is where Roosevelt was sworn in as president in 1901 after the assassination of President William McKinley during the Pan Am Exposition.

We hear it over and over from visi-tors like you: Rochester has the arts and entertainment of a big city

and the friendly attitude of a smaller one. Up-close and affordable professional sports, hundreds of great restau-rants, museums that celebrate history, fun, art and sci-ence from around the world—it’s all here. And if it’s the outdoors you like, hundreds of miles of trails and roads unfold from the city’s heart to rolling farmland.

Just over a million people live in the Rochester area. The region typically places high in rankings that exam-ine a host of community features, such as overall quality of life, cultural attractions, outdoor recreation, quick commute time, housing affordability, smart workforce, business innovation and access to great health care.

Culture clubOur esteemed music school and philharmonic orchestra

are at the root of Rochester’s cultural offerings. Visitors often remark at the level of sophistication evident in our music, which ranges from operas staged in historic Kodak Hall at Eastman Theatre to jazz trios in cozy clubs. There is music every night of the week in venues all over town.

The Eastman School of Music and Rochester Philhar-

monic Orchestra anchor the East End, where the annual Rochester International Jazz Festival will celebrate its 11th running this June. Over its nine days in 2011, the festival drew more than 180,000 music lovers to 285 con-certs by hundreds of musicians from around the world.

Rochester has an abundance of live theater as well. Among the big players are Geva Theatre Center—the highest-attended regional theater in New York—Down-stairs Cabaret Theatre, Blackfriars Theatre and Cen-terStage at the Jewish Community Center. Traveling Broadway shows are staged regularly at the Auditorium Theatre.

In the world of dance, Rochester’s own Garth Fagan Dance, an award-winning modern dance company, sells out shows around the globe. The company is based downtown. Rochester City Ballet adds its distinguished presence to the region and brings talented choreogra-phers and performers to Rochester. Nazareth College Arts Center is the home stage for both Fagan and RCB. Bush Mango Drum & Dance celebrates the rhythms of Africa. Check out Push Physical Theatre’s cutting-edge blend of dance and theater, Borinquen Dance Theatre’s Latin flair and the contemporary fusion of FuturPointe Dance.

The visual arts, too, thrive in Rochester. Painting,

sculpture, metalworking and woodworking programs at the area’s colleges and universities produce talented alumni. These creators strengthen the arts in Rochester beginning with their college years and continuing long after graduation.

The Memorial Art Gallery hosts blockbuster shows: Past crowd-pleasers have included Russian icons and the works of Georgia O’Keeffe, Maxfield Parrish and Edgar Degas. The massive collection at Artisan Works also is a visual treat. The project transformed 40,000 square feet of former warehouse space with 15,000 original works; sur-prises await at every turn. Open houses held on the first Friday of every month make it easy to catch art exhibits at dozens of local galleries. Anderson Alley Artists also open their studio doors during Second Saturdays.

Photography and film are popular art forms in Roches-ter. We’re the birthplace of Kodak, after all, and Roches-ter Institute of Technology, which has strong photogra-phy programs. You’ll discover rotating exhibitions in the city and suburbs, including those at the George Eastman House International Museum of Photography and Film. Work by the plethora of talented photographers who live here is exhibited at Image City Photography Gallery in the Neighborhood of the Arts, where a new show is

mounted every month. We celebrate film in art-house theaters and numerous fes-tivals, from the brand-new Greentopia to the 53-year-old Rochester International Film Festival to festivals of Jewish, Polish, deaf, and gay and lesbian film.

NightlifeFor a night—or a day—on the town,

some of the best attractions can be found in these areas:

n East and Alexander: Eclectic cuisine, late-night clubs, British pubs and 20-some-thing watering holes. Bring your ID.

n East End: Local theater, the Eastman School of Music and Eastman Theatre, the historic Little Theatre movie house, jazz clubs, popular restaurants, comfort-able cafes. Soak in the vibe.

n Charlotte: Patio dining and drinks, beach and boardwalk, park concerts and ice cream. Bring the kids.

n Monroe Avenue: Sports bars and international eateries, unique shops. Tat-toos encouraged.

n Neighborhood of the Arts: Restau-rants, galleries, antiques. A feast for the senses.

n Park Avenue: Al fresco dining, cafes, boutiques. Prime people-watching.

n St. Paul Quarter: Martinis and dinner, dance clubs, salsa lessons, national club acts. Wear your dancing shoes.

n South Wedge: Cafes, Cajun barbecue, boutiques, wine and beer with a smile. Come as you are.

Dining diversityEverywhere you go in Rochester you’ll

find excellent restaurants. Downtown and in surrounding neighborhoods and suburbs, there’s no shortage of cuisine that spans the globe—Indian, Thai, Vietnamese, Italian, Chinese, Ethiopian, French, German, sushi, steak and sea-food, continental, vegetarian and fusion-everything. Try something new while you’re here.

Uniquely RochesterRochester’s prominent role in the

history of film takes center stage at the George Eastman House. Besides its revolving exhibitions, it holds the personal film collections of Martin Scor-sese, Spike Lee and others. It’s also the 50-room mansion of Kodak’s founder.

Susan B. Anthony, the pioneer leader of the women’s rights movement, lived at 17 Madison St. with her sister. Today the house is a museum filled with photos and mementos of her life.

Genesee Country Village & Museum is one of the three largest living-history museums in the country, with 70 restored 19th-century buildings and costumed interpreters. The Strong National Museum of Play ranks among the top 10 children’s museums in the country. Rochester Muse-um & Science Center has a planetarium and three floors of interactive exhibits on science and technology, natural science and the region’s cultural heritage.

Great outdoorsOutdoor enthusiasts will find hundreds

of miles of multi-use and neighborhood trails in the area. The Genesee Riverway

Trail runs from the Erie Canal in Genesee Valley Park through downtown all the way to Lake Ontario along the Genesee River. See three waterfalls, the river gorge and 11 parks on the way. Go for a run along the Erie Canal, or take a self-guided tour of Rochester’s historic downtown. Favor-ite sights are the Powers Building, the world headquarters of Kodak and Bausch & Lomb, Xerox Tower and the Broad Street Aqueduct, which once carried the Erie Canal across the Genesee River.

Visit our parks designed by famed land-scape architect Frederick Law Olmsted: Seneca Park, with its steep river gorge and popular zoo; Genesee Valley Park, where the river hosts a collegiate row-ing regatta every fall; and Highland Park, home of the 110-year-old Lilac Festival.

One of the best city neighborhoods for a stroll is the residential area around Park and East avenues.

If you have the time, take a drive to the Finger Lakes and stop in to visit some of the 100 wineries in this fast-growing wine region.

FestsWhen the weather turns warm in May,

Rochester launches into one of the busi-est festival seasons around. (We rank high for the number of festivals per capita.) Some of the most popular are the Lilac Festival, Rochester International Jazz Festival, Corn Hill Arts Festival, Park Ave Summer Arts Fest and Clothesline Festival. Another high-profile event is the LPGA Championship, one of the most popular stops on the women’s golf tour. Greentopia Festival, a five-day, multime-dia event focusing on green living, takes place in High Falls, a historic area of the city that overlooks Rochester’s thunder-ing 96-foot waterfall on the Genesee River.

All businessManufacturing was for many years the

bedrock of the area’s economy. While

manufacturing continues to employ more than 60,000 people here, innovation and creativity are shifting our city’s course: Companies are emerging in biotechnol-ogy, imaging and optics, and fuel-cell research, all new strengths born from our established capabilities in higher educa-tion and manufacturing.

Robust high-tech output, innovation and diversity make Greater Rochester one of the 25 best places to live for “super-creatives,” professors, scientists, computer programmers, artists, writers and musicians. The professionals who support these creative fields, such as financial advisers and lawyers, are well-represented too.

Education itself, in fact, has become a prime economic driver. The University of Rochester is the largest employer and is in the midst of a $500 million expansion in medical care and research. Rochester Institute of Technology also is growing rapidly to meet industry demands, along with a dozen other local colleges. More than 80,000 students attend area colleges.

Rochester has long had thousands of small, fast-moving businesses. In addition to Kodak, Bausch & Lomb and Xerox, some of these have grown into far-reach-ing firms: Paychex Inc.; Constellation Brands Inc., the largest wine company in the world; and Wegmans Food Markets Inc., which has a gourmet approach to groceries and consistently ranks among Fortune’s top places to work. In fact, Rochester companies recently have ranked No. 1 in the magazine’s small-, medium- and large-firm categories.

The region is a national leader in pat-ents, with at least 1,000 granted each year to area inventors, led by scientists at Kodak and Xerox. The patents include developments in new types of film, lens-es, health care products, digital media and printing technology.

With a knack for reinventing itself, Rochester remains on the world’s stage.

Where to Meet, Where to Stay 2012 CENTRAL NEW YORK REGION • 39

Visitors to the Central New York region are attracted by a series of

factors, including a central location, convenience of getting around, experi-ence hosting big events, recreation and culture, and many interesting places to see and things to do.

All that has helped make CNY — including Syracuse, the Mohawk Valley, and Greater Binghamton — a major destination for conventions, confer-ences, business meetings, and special events like athletic contests.

Central New York’s hospitality lead-ers say another draw is the way they personally service visiting groups, helping with all the details involved in

hosting a conference, convention, or other big event.

We turned to the Syracuse Convention & Visitors Bureau, Oneida County Tourism, and the Greater Binghamton Convention and Visitor’s Bureau for more information on what their parts of the region have to offer. Here is the information they provided.

SyracuseStrategically located in the

heart of New York State, Syracuse is easily accessible for most meet-ing attendees, with more than 63 million people located within a

350-mile radius of the city. Syracuse offers a variety of accommodations including more than 7,000 hotel rooms with 4,000 available for conventions. In addition, it provides flexible meeting and event facilities ranging from the time-honored Oncenter Convention Center and New York State Fairgrounds to the brand-new SRC Arena & Events Center, to the historic Landmark Theatre, onward to the iconic Carrier Dome.

Syracuse’s first-class natural resourc-es include more than 50 state, county, and city parks. The area’s abundant waterways continue to draw national, regional, and statewide athletic events such as Ironman 70.3 and Iron Girl Syracuse, both of which will return to the area in 2012. In addition to triath-lons, Syracuse is well respected for its first-rate fishing facilities including Oneida Lake, home to the 2012 B.A.S.S. Elite Series Oneida Championships. Syracuse continues to capitalize on its repeat customers and the growth of those events, in addition to securing new business opportunities, such as those in the expanding sustainability-meetings market segment, thanks to the community’s leadership in that area showcased by the Syracuse Cen-ter of Excellence and Destiny USA.

The Syracuse Convention & Visitors Bureau’s (SCVB) award-winning services

are complimentary based on hotel-room usage and include 24-hour availability during events. “Syracuse’s commitment to the customer experience brings event planners back over and over again,” says Tracey Kegebein, the SCVB’s vice presi-dent of sales and services.

Syracuse offers recreational and cultural activities that few cities of this size can. In addition to its many out-door parks, the Greater Syracuse area is home to more than 40 golf courses, and many museums and galleries, including the nationally known Everson Museum of Art and the Museum of Science & Technology. The Syracuse Opera is Central New York’s only year-round professional opera company, and the Syracuse Stage is the region’s pre-mier professional theatre. The spring 2012 grand opening of Carousel Cen-ter’s expansion will rebrand the retail destination as Destiny USA, the sixth largest mall in America. With a unique mix of traditional and outlet retail, entertainment, and dining, the expan-sion portion is on track to become the largest LEED Gold-certified retail struc-ture in the country.

Mohawk ValleyIts convenient location just off the New

gatherings. Meeting venues are within 20 to 40 minutes of Syracuse Hancock International Air-port and Amtrak provides service with train stations in Utica and Rome.

Whether you need space for 10 people or 10,000, the area provides state-of-the-art facilities, numerous banquet halls, and a variety of non-traditional venues offering options and opportunities for memorable meetings. The area has more than 2,700 rooms available at AAA Four Diamond resort hotels, national chains, and independently owned properties. A new La Quinta Inn will open in Verona this winter, followed by a new Hampton Inn & Suites opening in the summer in New Hartford. Vernon Downs Casino Hotel completed an $8.1 million expansion project in July 2011, adding more than 16,000 square feet of meeting and conference space, a new restaurant, and an outdoor terrace for events.

The Oneida Nation enterprise, Turning Stone Resort Casino in Verona, has become an increasingly prominent attraction for visi-tors from across New York State and beyond. Turning Stone offers gaming, four hotels, 19 restaurants, two spas, a 175-site RV park, and a wide range of diverse live entertainment. Having previously hosted PGA Championship events, it has five golf courses, including three nationally ranked championship courses and an indoor golf-training center. Turning Stone also offers a 5,000-seat event center, an 800-

seat showroom, and a conference center. If you’re looking to bring a group tour,

reunion, or social event to the area, there’s no shortage of attractions and things to do. Get creative with your networking activities and include a game of curling, enjoy live entertain-

ment in Utica’s brewery district, or take an exclusive behind-the-scenes factory tour at Saranac Brewery, Harden Furniture, or Meyda Tiffany Lighting.

Greater BinghamtonAt the confluence of the

Susquehanna and Chenango Rivers lies Greater Binghamton, a region rich in scenic beauty, enchanting villages, and lively cities. Its central location at the junctions of I-81, I-88, and NY 17 (future I-86) make it easily accessible within New York State. Add that to its 2,500 first-class, affordable, overnight accommo-dations, modern meeting/exhibit facilities, and top-quality sports venues, and you have all the ingredients for a successful event.

There are more than 250 restaurants, from locally owned and operated eateries to nationally recognized chains. You can choose to frequent quaint antique stores, specialty shops, or top brand names. Attractions in the area include the Roberson Museum & Science Center, The Bundy Museum of History & Art, the Binghamton Zoo at Ross Park, the Discov-ery Center of the Southern Tier, the Phelps Mansion Museum, Windy Hill Candle Factory, Cider Mill, and Antique Row. From Memorial

Day through Labor Day you can take a spin on one of the six antique carousels — the largest collection in the world. Culturally, the area offers art galleries and studios, the Broadway Theatre League, Tri-Cities Opera, Binghamton Symphony, and a repertory theatre.

AHL hockey (Binghamton Senators), AA baseball (B-Mets), Champions Tour profes-sional golf (Dick’s Sporting Goods Open), USTA Tennis (Binghamton Tennis Challeng-er), and more than a dozen top-quality golf courses await the sports enthusiast. Parks, campgrounds, and hiking and biking trails are sure to please outdoor fans.

The moon shines over the Mohawk Valley.

Traffic passes through the city of Binghamton.
