Iron and Wine is the musical project of Sam Beam, a South Carolina born former film studies lecturer. A painter also, Beam’s roots in the visual arts signpost the refined and sombre storytelling that weaves throughout his music. With a softly spoken delivery conveying a certain cinematic gravitas, Beam conjures wonderfully evocative narratives rich in down-home symbolism and vivid characterisation.

Over 10,000 people a year are inspired by the choice of creative opportunities offered by THSH Education & Community department. People of all ages discover the venues and artistic programme by participating in events and projects in family, school and community settings, the state-of-the-art Patrick Music and Multimedia Studio and the halls themselves.

SPOTLIGHT ON... CONCERTS2KERBSTONES

A programme developed through our work with the residents of Ladywood.

Over the last few months families have embarked on a journey with us that has explored our community of Ladywood using We’re Going On a Bear Hunt as a theme. The project has given residents the opportunity to share their experiences and ideas with us through creative work while also preparing them for a visit to Town Hall for a performance.

CONCERTS2KERBSTONES has also made it possible for us to offer every child in their very first year at a Ladywood primary school the chance to come and see We’re Going on a Bear Hunt for Free. We look forward to welcoming our new friends in Ladywood to the performances, forging stronger links with our community and opening up opportunities to experience all that our venues have to offer.

Performances Birmingham is one of the largest regional arts charities in the country. We invite people to discover great performances at the heart of Birmingham and participate in community arts projects at our two world-famous venues.

Ticket sales alone cannot sustain our programme; we rely on voluntary contributions to enable us to continue and expand our work. We aim to reach even more people within our communities and further develop our wide-ranging programme. We would like to thank all our supporters for their generous contributions to our charitable work over the last year.
