DO: DO NOT:MOVE your vehicle out of traffic
TURN OFF the ignition and turn on hazard lights
WARN other drivers of the road hazard with flares
CALL 9-1-1
CHECK for injuries and give reasonable assistance to injured
GATHER info by exchanging license, insurance cards, etc.
IDENTIFY any witnesses
PHOTOGRAPH injuries anddamages to the vehicles
SEEK medical treatment
MAKE SURE the traffic crash report is accurate
ASSUME people are not injured and avoid moving the injured unless they are in danger
LEAVE the scene of the accident
ACCEPT roadside settlements
ARGUE or discuss the cause of the accident
DISCUSS your insurance policy limits or coverage
ADMIT fault
PROVIDE emergencymedical assistance unless you are trained to do so
AFTER AN ACCIDENTIMMEDIATELY request a copy of the traffic crash report following the auto accident. Review the crash report and if any passengers or an eyewitness are not listed, contact the officer to correct the report
ASSESS the facts that caused the accident and record information you may have forgotten
NOTIFY your auto insurance company. Do not discuss the facts of the accident without your attorney’s approval
TREAT any pain or injuries you experience after the accident
PHOTOGRAPH any visible injuries or bruises on a regular basis to document the injury
