What is Xtreme Fastpitch?

Xtreme Fastpitch is Babe Ruth League’s new, high-performance softball division.

Babe Ruth League, Inc. has always been deeply committed to providing all our participants with the very best educational sports experience possible. This commitment

applies to our players who wish to play baseball or softball on a recreational level to those who seek a higher degree of competition to hone their skills, with the goal of continuing

play into high school and beyond. That’s where Xtreme Fastpitch comes in.

As in all other divisions, Babe Ruth League core values are recognized and adhered to, using regulation competitive baseball and softball rules to teach skills,

promote mental and physical development, nurture a respect for the rules of the game and reinforce basic ideals of sportsmanship and fair play.

Any local league may register players for Babe Ruth Softball, Xtreme Fastpitch or both.

A player wishing to play Babe Ruth Softball must do so in the local league whose geographical boundaries the player resides within.

A player wishing to play Xtreme Fastpitch must also do so in the local league whose geographical boundaries the player resides within, provided that local league offers Xtreme Fastpitch. If not, then the player may register for Xtreme Fastpitch in whichever league the player wishes.

There are no geographical boundaries limiting where players who sign up for your Xtreme Fastpitch team reside.

An Xtreme Fastpitch team in a local league can add Xtreme Fastpitch players from outside of it’s geographical boundaries, provided they are not currently rostered in another Babe Ruth Softball program that already offers Xtreme Fastpitch.

A player that is currently rostered in a local Babe Ruth Softball league that does not offer Xtreme Fastpitch can sign up to play on an Xtreme Fastpitch team in another league (but will continue to play regular Babe Ruth Softball in the local league whose geographical boundaries the player resides within).

If you run an independent fastpitch softball program and have been con-tinually searching for other quality national programs to play tournament level softball, this is for you. You will no longer have to search different affiliations to complete your season schedule of games or constantly work to secure placement in regional or national play.

You can create an Xtreme Fastpitch team simply by logging onto BabeRuthLeague.org and going through the steps to create an Xtreme Fastpitch only team.

You are also able to purchase Xtreme Fastpitch insurance for your team, and this coverage can be used at non-Xtreme Fastpitch Tournaments for no additional charge. Your team will receive all the benefits of playing in a program that is backed by Babe Ruth League, Inc., the second larg-est youth baseball and softball program in the United States. Babe Ruth League, Inc. was founded in 1951 and serves over 1.1 million ballplayers across the United States.

Go to BabeRuthLeague.org, click on the Xtreme Fastpitch logo and select “Register an Xtreme Team.” You’ll be on your way in minutes!

Did you know ... You can create an Xtreme Fastpitch team without having to be a chartered Babe Ruth “local league.”

Do the players that form my league’s Xtreme team have to be from our own district?

No. There are no geographical boundaries limiting where the players who sign up for your team come from. Participating leagues can sign up a group of players from any geographical make-up and form a team to play other Xtreme teams in special games or tournaments through-out the year.

Where will my league’s Xtreme team be playing their games?

Your Xtreme team will be eligible to play at your own facility … in local tournaments that might only be a quick drive away … or farther away anywhere across the country where tournaments are being held!

What rulebook will Xtreme teams follow?

Playing rules will match High School and College playing rules to better prepare players for the next level.

How should we schedule the games?

Give the players and coaches the flexibility to schedule Xtreme games around local league play in Babe Ruth Softball, so that they can play as many games as possible under a dual charter.

What age groups are available?

X8, X10, X12, X14, X16 & X18.

What about insurance?

Xtreme Fastpitch is a division of Babe Ruth League, so teams have the ability to purchase Babe Ruth Insurance provided by K&K Insurance, which offers teams the ability to have Primary Coverage and allows them to also use this insur-ance in Xtreme Fastpitch or Babe Ruth Softball tournaments.

Who organizes the tournaments and what do the proceeds go toward?

You organize and run your own tournaments and use the profits to help run your team/local league.

What is the “24/7 Xtreme Fastpitch Network”?

24/7 Xtreme Fastpitch Network is an initiative to assist players whose goal it is to continue playing softball beyond high school. This online resource will offer players the ability to compile all their playing stats, school achievements and community service activities in their own private online profile which they will manage. Players

will be able to make this information available for college coaches and recruiters, and can also alert them to tournaments they are playing in.

If the local league offers both Babe Ruth Softball and Xtreme Fastpitch …

… then players wishing to play Xtreme Fastpitch must do so in the local league whose geographical boundaries the player resides within.

If the local league offers just Babe Ruth Softball …

… then players wishing to play Xtreme Fastpitch can do so in any league the player chooses.

We already have Babe Ruth All-Star Softball Teams that play in travel tournaments. How do we register these teams as Xtreme Fastpitch?

You simply go to the “Tournaments” tab on BabeRuthLeague.org and click on “Search Xtreme Tournaments.” You’ll then select the age group and timeframe, and a selection of tournaments will appear, along with maps and other tourna-ment details … everything you need!

If girls are rostered on two teams (one Babe Ruth and one Xtreme), do they have to pay separately to be on the two teams (uniforms, etc.)?

This up to the local league. If the local league takes Babe Ruth Insurance, for instance, there is no additional charge for insurance coverage if all the players that play Xtreme also are on Babe Ruth Softball roster within that league. Now, play-ers are not required to purchase an additional uniform and can wear whatever uniform the team or league wish to wear.

If we let Xtreme teams play Babe Ruth teams, the competition level might make it unfair. Is anybody doing this now?

This is similar to the local league option to do “Inter League” play option. When you take differ-ent leagues who have different rules on forming teams, there will always be a concern over the talent level for each team. The local league needs to make the determination as to what they see as the best option for assembling teams in the different divisions.

It seems inevitable that there will be travel tourneys for the Xtreme Fastpitch team that conflict with the Babe Ruth Softball schedule. Are players “allowed” to miss BRS practices/games without being penalized?

Yes. Since the local league controls the Xtreme Fastpitch and Babe Ruth Softball practice/games schedules, they can craft schedules that have limited conflicts verses if they were tied to another group for travel ball.

We have talked about starting small by recruiting local travel ball teams to sign up as Xtreme Fastpitch teams. Does this fit the mold for Xtreme?

Yes … and it’s a great way to possibly add more practice fields to the program and schedule non-tournament special games with other Xtreme Fastpitch teams.

We have discussed holding Xtreme Fastpitch tourna-ments, but wonder about the value to our local league. Can you help me understand the benefit?

We understand that many other travel programs take a larger portion of the fees when running tournaments. Our feeling is that this should be profitable for the host site and that is why we al-low you to set team fee and we retain only $50 of that. Other programs are the complete opposite. If you do need staff from Babe Ruth League Head-quarters, then contact us and we will be glad to help with the tournament. (Don’t forget that when you create a tournament you will have a dedi-

cated staff person from Headquarters helping you from start to finish!)

Can I create an Xtreme Fastpitch team without having a chartered Babe Ruth League program?

Yes! You can create an Xtreme Fastpitch team simply by logging onto BabeRuthLeague.org and going through the steps to create an Xtreme Fastpitch only team. You are also able to purchase Xtreme Fastpitch insurance for your team, and this coverage can be used at non-Xtreme Fast-pitch Tournaments for no additional charge. Here’s how it works …First, we’ll create an announcement in the Xtreme online tournament center and give you access to your very own tournament page so you can customize your event. Here, you’ll also be able to track all your teams coming in for your tournament.

WORTH Tournament Series of Xtreme FastpitchStarting in the late fall of 2013 and for the 2014 sea-son, your local league could be selected to host an Xtreme Fastpitch premier event—a WORTH Tourna-ment Series event.

How do you get your park on the list to host? Here are some tips:

First, you must hold at least four Xtreme Fastpitch Tournaments (4 of one age group or 1 of 4 age groups) to qualify for consideration.

Next, you must have a “A” rating from Head- quarters on the hosting of your previous events for Xtreme Fastpitch. This rating is based on feedback from the teams that attended your tournaments.

If your local league is selected, Headquarters works with you on merchandize sales, selecting vendors working the event and area hotels that are approved for teams to stay in.

What is the cost to your local league of hosting a WORTH Tournament Series event?

Just like a regular Xtreme Fastpitch tournament, the cost to your local league is $150 per age group and $50 per team, plus two hotel rooms for staff at Headquarters who will be working the event.

WORTH will provide equipment to the winning team of your tournament. It could be helmets, bat bags, a bat, or other special products WORTHY of being a champion of an WORTH Xtreme Fastpitch Tournament Series event. Only 40 of these tournaments will be held nationwide each year.

The Xtreme Fastpitch Tournament Babe Ruth League is working to secure more sites to play more Xtreme Fastpitch tournaments all over the United States. As the number of tournament sites grows, we will create a point system for qualifiers for Regional and National Championships.

In the meantime, though, teams can sign up and prepare to enter the National Championships after playing in at least one Xtreme Fastpitch Tournament.

Of course, each age group might be limited to no more than 40 teams at the Championships depending on how many teams request entry. But we are hard at work to secure more fields and more locations that can help to host larger tournaments after this current season.
