What is the role of the Orkney Faction?

The Round Table

The Orkney Faction is not accustomed to change. They are use to “Might equals Right”. Arthur is trying to show them that “Might equals Right” is wrong and needs to be

changed for the good of Camelot. The Orkney family had decided to follow their traditional roots of the Celtic, instead of following Arthur’s new ways. They believe that the only

way for a true society was to destroy all that was evil. They also believed that blood must be shed for true peace, killing in anger instead of truly finding out if the man was

evil or not. The knights have made the Round Table out to be a game in replace of its true quest for peace. The

Orkney Faction has refused to evolve into the new ways, and instead follow the old ways of the Celts.

The Orkney Faction and the actual Round Table knights have a great contrast between each other. The

lifestyle and personality of the Orkneys differ greatly from that of

Round Table knights, Arthur’s cherished fighters. Take, for example, the reasons of fighting between the

two groups. The Orkneys and knights alike were considered to be fighters of Arthur. However, the knights were fighting using Chivalrous ways, and

under the command of Arthur at most times. The Orkneys, on the other

hand, were under their own sort of rule, “Might is Right.” Yet, Arthur did

want them as fighters because he wanted the Orkneys to use their

violent ways and anger on his side, rather than the Orkneys fighting

recklessly within Arthur’s kingdom.

GOOD vs. EVIL

The main thought of the Orkney FACTION IS “might is right”. “Might is right” is the use of force to succeed In your goals. This is also called the Fort Mayne concept. The fort mayne

is the total opposite of what Arthur plans to use in Camelot. This concept has taken the round table to the next level. “Might is right” HAS SENT THEM ON THIS QUEST FOR THE

HOLY GRAIL. This also helps keep the round table together. The “might is right” has its’ prows and cons. It helps in

keeping the round table from falling apart, and sending a crusade is search for the holy relics. But, it has also brought

the killing of many men and the questing as a game for some. “might is right” has made the round table and sent THE KNIGHTS IN SEARCH OF THE HOLY RELICS. Seeming to think that “might is right” is possibly helpful and correct.

The Quest of Arthur’s companions for the Holy Grail is a very important part of his reign.

However, it is unlikely that this quest would have ever taken place if not for the Orkney

Faction. Arthur’s whole reason for wanting to find such a thing that resembled God was

because the Orkney Faction’s ways had made everything disorderly within the Round Table. Arthur felt the need to introduce religion into

Camelot for the specific reason that he needed to save the Round Table. However, if not for

the Orkney Faction, Christianity wouldn’t have been introduced to Camelot, nor to those many on the Quest for the Grail. Thus, the

Orkney Faction played a major role in the Grail Quest, being that they caused the uproar that inspired Arthur to quest for the relics of God.

In conclusion the role of the Orkney Faction is to help support

that “Might is Right”. In doing this they have gone against

Arthur’s thoughts and followed their own. As they fight for this Arthur creates the Round Table against it, also sending them on a quest for the holy relics. The concept had helped , but also

destroyed. Killing in anger instead of what is right. Even helping in saving the Round

Table form falling into dismay, giving it the hope of finding the holy relics. They have followed their tradition of the Celtics and not evolve has actually helped

save the Round Table.
