In Memory - TraceO Text: This document is a picture displaying the 10th memorial of the tragedy that occurred on

9/11. Two lights are shining vertically in the skyline to represent the Twin Towers and what

happened that day. It is a unique picture because of how it is emotionally captivating and

appealing to the eye.

O Reader: The audience for this image is all Americans and individuals that lost loved ones that

day. I am obviously a part of the intended audience because I am an American citizen and I can

remember exactly what I was doing when the towers were destroyed.

O Author: The individual who captured this image is named Gary Hershorn. He is a Global Editor

for Sports Pictures at Reuters.

O Constraints: I do not think anything constraints the photographer because his picture is one

that touches individuals all over America. With that being said, I also do not believe there are any

constraints or limits on the reader/audience for this picture.

O Exigence: The cause of this photograph was because of what happened on September 11th,

2001 when the World Trade Center was ambushed by terrorists and many people were killed and

injured.

Boy and His Dog - Trace

Piece –This picture is an image of a boy going through a monsoon to rescue his dog. It was taken in Manila, Philippines in the year of 2013. The picture is displaying mans love for dogs and goes to show that dogs really are mans best friend.

Agent – The photographer of this image is Romeo Ranoco who has a blog on Reuters.com with some of images. He stays in the Philippines and captures many moments there for his photography collection. You can subscribe to his blog and contact him via email from there.

Receiver – Who is the primary audience?  No general audiences exist!  Are you part of that intended audience?  What kinds of beliefs do you as a receiver of the piece have that influence how you perceive it?

Agenda – What bias is presented in the piece?  How does it justify its position?

Demands – What does the piece urge, if anything, and why?  If the demands are met, what will happen?  If not, what will happen?

Inquiries – What do you want to know beyond the piece, especially questions you have?  What does your intuition tell you about the source?  Is it attempting to sway you with manipulation?  What shows this?

Gains – What did you gain from the piece that you did not already have? What did you gain from the piece that you did not already know?  In what ways did the piece, or the sponsor, give or enhance you or your life by sharing the work?

Motivators – What spurred the agent to create or sponsor the piece?  What prompted finding it?

Defiance – Trace O Text: In this photograph, a young girl is holding what appears to be a cigarette. As it can be seen, there are

two other figures in this text that are facing the other way compared to the young girl with the cigarette. It

makes it seem that the little girl is defiant in several ways, such as many other stubborn kids as they go

through the process of growing up. It is unique because it goes against the taboo that children should not

smoke.

O Reader: The intended audience would have to be society as a whole because the picture goes against

social norms, which would include me as the audience because I am apart of society. I find it interesting that

the author would go against this social norm seeing as how many people would not be fond of this picture.

O Author: The photographer of the image is Sally Mann. She has received many awards, including NEA, NEH,

and Guggenheim Foundation grants, and her work is held by major institutions internationally. She has also

written a few books.

O Constraints: She does a lot of controversial images that may or may not include her personal life and

children and some people may not agree with her. I am limited because I do not know everything about

Sally Mann.

O Exigence: The reason Mann took this photo is because she is reflecting her own childhood through

photographs of her children.

 Original Genre: Photograph

Revised Genre: Graphic

Description of New Genre/New Piece: A girl with a

candy cigarette in front of a bunch of people

Explanation of New Genre Choice/New Piece: The

girl is standing in front of a picture that I described as

showing individuality where as the picture of the girl

also displays one choosing their own path

Explanation of How New Genre/Piece Differs from

Original: The morphed picture differs from the original

because the message is more bold in this picture. It’s

all about being yourself and standing out.

Message Changes? Yes or No? How so?: The

message does not necessarily change, but becomes

stronger when the two images are morphed.
