Poetry is…Poetry is the most emotionally charged means of written expression and it consists of words

arranged in patterns of sound and imagery to spark an emotional, and intellectual, response from us (Russell, 176-177)

What makes a poem as poem?• Imagery (five senses)-An Image is a group of

words which presents an object or objects, and possibly some action, that appeals to the senses. – Taste– Sight– Sound– Touch– Smell

employing a connective such as "like" or "as“

• Metaphor: an implied comparison, not directly stated with words such as "like" and "as“

• Personification: human qualities are given to an inanimate object, an abstract idea, or a force of nature.
