A note from Pastor Tom

Hello!

I’m so glad you were able to join

us today. We are excited to get to

know you better. My hope is that at

FBC you’ll develop a deeper love

for God, grow meaningful friend-

ships, and learn to show God’s love

to the world. It can be intimidating

to find your place in a new commu-

nity. I know – I’ve been there. The

first three steps that can help you

become an active participant in the

FBC family are:

• Attend a Pastor’s Dessert. I would like to personally in-

vite you to join us at my home to learn more about FBC’s

purpose and ministries. You’ll get to know other people

and how you can get involved. To reserve your spot at our

next Pastor’s Dessert, call the church at 805-543-0945.

• Join a Life Group. Each group is made up of people like

you who gather regularly as friends in a home. Life Groups

provide the opportunity for close friendships, to encourage

and be encouraged, to serve and be served, and to grow in

faith together.

• Attend FBC’s “Growing with God” Series. No matter

where you think you stand with God, FBC desires to help

you know and walk with Him more closely. This series of

four classes (including our Membership Lunch) will equip

you to grow with God, step by step. To sign up for the

next series call the church office at 805-543-0945.

Feel free to contact the listed leaders to find out how you

can get involved. I look forward to meeting you in person

soon!

In Christ,

Tom

WORLD-WIDE & LOCAL MISSIONS

FBC believes that God has blessed us so that we can be a blessing to others. By prayerfully and financially supporting long-term international missionaries, short-term mission trips, and organizing local outreach opportunities, we reach out into our world to share God’s love.

LOCAL OUTREACHSharing the tangible love of God within our own commu-nity is something FBC highly values. Regular outreach to the homeless, hungry, sick and elderly provides a great oppor-tunity for you to reach out, with the church body, to demon-strate Christ’s love. FBC coordinates its own outreach and has partnered with local agencies including but not limited to Aids Support Network, Family Care Network, Prado Day Center, and others.

SHORT-TERM MISSION TRIPSFBC sends out several multi-generational short-term mission teams each year. Previous teams have been sent to Peru, In-dia, Mexico, Russia, Vanuatu and elsewhere.

LONG-TERM MISSIONARIESAs a family, FBC supports various long-term missionaries around the world in a variety of ministries aimed at helping others know and grow in Christ. Check out the Missionary Map in the lobby for more information on the ministries we support and those who run them.

LIFE GROUPS

Life Groups are a vital part of life at FBC. Groups of 6 or more meet regularly to build authentic friendships, study God’s word, and reach out to their community together. Individuals and couples are typically placed with others in a similar stage of life. All regular attenders and members are strongly encouraged to join a Life Group as each of us was created to live life studying with and encouraging fellow believers, not just sit in a pew on Sundays.

What We Believe1. ABOUT GOD

God is the Creator and Ruler of the universe. He has eternally existed in three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. The three are co-equal and are one God.

Gen. 1:1, 26-27, 3:22; Ps. 90:2; Matt. 28:19; 1 Pet. 1:2

2. ABOUT JESUS CHRIST

Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He is co-equal with the Father. Jesus lived a sinless human life and offered Himself as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all people by dying on a cross. He rose from the dead after three days to demonstrate His power over sin and death. He ascended to Heaven’s glory and will return again someday to earth to reign as King of Kings, and Lord of Lords.

Matt. 1:22-23; Isa. 9:6; John 1:1-5, 14:10-30; Heb. 4:14-15; 1 Cor. 15:3-4; Rom. 1:3-4; Acts 1:9-11; 1 Tim. 6:14-15

3. ABOUT THE HOLY SPIRIT

The Holy Spirit is co-equal with the Father and the Son of God. He is present in the world to make men aware of their need for Jesus Christ. He also lives in every Christian from the moment of salvation. He provides Christians with power for living, understanding of spiritual truth, and guidance in doing what is right. He gives every believer a spiritual gift when they are saved. As Christians we seek to live under His control daily.

2 Cor. 3:17; John 16:7-13, 14:16-17; Acts 1:8; 1 Cor. 2:12, 3:16; Eph. 1:13; Gal. 5:25; Eph. 1:13; Gal. 5:25; Eph. 5:18

4. ABOUT THE BIBLE

The Bible is God’s Word to us. It was written by human authors, under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit. It is the supreme source of truth for Christian beliefs and living. Because it is inspired by God, it is the truth without any mixture of error.

2 Tim. 3:16; 2 Pet. 1:20-21; 2 Tim. 1:13; Ps. 119:105, 160, 12:6; Pro. 30:5

5. ABOUT HUMAN BEINGS

People are made in the spiritual image of God, to be like Him in character. People are the supreme object of God’s creation. Although every person has tremendous potential for good, all of us are marred by an attitude of selfishness and independence from God. The Bible calls this attitude sin. Through Adam’s sin in the Garden of Eden, sin has spread to all people. This sin nature has separated us from God. Because of God’s great love, He sent Jesus to reconcile His People back to Himself.

Gen. 1:27; Ps. 8:3-6; Isa. 53:6a; Rom. 3:23; Isa. 59:1-2

6. ABOUT SALVATION

Salvation is God’s free gift to us, but His saving work is always manifested in our actual, responsible choice to receive Him. We can never make up for our sin by self-improvement or good works. Only by trusting in Jesus Christ as God’s offer of forgiveness, can anyone be saved from sin’s penalty. When we turn from our self-ruled life and turn to Jesus in faith, we are saved. Eternal life begins the moment one receives Jesus Christ into their life by faith.

Rom. 6:23; Eph. 2:8-9; John 14:6, 1:12; Tit. 3:5; Gal. 3:26

7. ABOUT ETERNAL SECURITY

Because God gives us eternal life through Jesus Christ, the true believer is secure in that salvation for eternity. If you have been genuinely saved, you cannot “lose” it. Salvation is maintained by the grace and power of God, not by the self-effort of the Christian. It is the grace and keeping power of God that gives us this security.

John 10:29; 2 Tim. 1:12; Heb. 7:25; 10:10, 14; 1 Pet. 1:3-5

8. ABOUT ETERNITY

People were created to exist forever. We will either exist eternally separated from God by sin, or eternally with God through forgiveness and salvation. To be eternally separated from God is hell. To be eternally in union with Him is eternal life in Heaven. Heaven and hell are real places of eternal existence.

John 3:16; John 2:25; John 5:11-13; Rom. 6:23; Rev. 20:15; Matt. 1:8; Matt. 2:44, 46
