What is abortion? Abortion is the intentional termination of a pregnancy after conception. It allows women to put an end to their pregnancies, but involves killing the undeveloped embryo or fetus. For this reason, it is a very controversial subject in American politics. Supporters of abortion rights argue that the embryo or fetus is not a person, or at least that the government has no right to ban abortion unless it can prove that an embryo or fetus is a person. Opponents of abortion rights argue that the embryo or fetus is a person, or at least that the government has a responsibility to ban abortion until it can prove that an embryo or fetus is not a person.

What is abortion?Abortion is the intentional termination of a pregnancy afterconception. It allows women to put an end to their pregnancies, butinvolves killing the undeveloped embryo or fetus. For this reason, it isa very controversial subject in American politics.

Supporters of abortion rights argue that the embryo or fetus is not aperson, or at least that the government has no right to ban abortionunless it can prove that an embryo or fetus is a person.

Opponents of abortion rights argue that the embryo or fetus is aperson, or at least that the government has a responsibility to banabortion until it can prove that an embryo or fetus is not a person.

Although opponents of abortion often frame their objections inreligious terms, abortion is never mentioned in the Bible.

The women have the right to make medical decisions about their ownbodies. Fetuses also have rights, but only after the pregnancy hasprogressed to the point where the fetus can be viewed as anindependent person. In medical terms, this is defined as the viabilitythreshold--the point at which a fetus can survive outside of the womb--which is currently 22 to 24 weeks.

Abortions have been performed for at least 3,500 years, as evidencedby their mention in the Ebers Papyrus (ca. 1550 BCE).

The word "abortion" comes from the Latin root aboriri (ab = "offthe mark," oriri = "to be born or rise"). Until the 19th century, bothmiscarriages and intentional terminations of pregnancies werereferred to as abortions.

Abortion, when induced in the developed world in accordance withlocal law, is among the safest procedures in medicine. However,unsafe abortions (those performed by persons without proper trainingor outside of a medical environment) result in approximately 70thousand maternal deaths and 5 million disabilities per year globally.An estimated 42 million abortions are performed globally each year,with 20 million of those performed unsafely.

It is sometimes used in the campaign in favor of abortion, notknowing the real beginning of life. What is totally false, because thecurrent knowledge of ontogenetic development and embryonic allowus to affirm that life begins at fertilization, commonly called a design.

In short, man is a sexual being, ie, differentiation of gender (male andfemale), thus making sexual reproduction possible.

Some characteristics of the human fetus with 2 ½months (10 weeks):- Measures 6 inches (fits in the palm of the hand);

Page 3: WHAT IS ABORTION?

- Weighs 14 grams;

- It has eyes, nose and fingers;

- All vital organs are formed;

- The heart beats and you can record your beats.

- The brain is complete and the child can feel pain.

What is abortion induced?Approximately 205 million pregnancies occur each year worldwide.Over a third are unintended and about a fifth end in induced abortion.Most abortions result from unintended pregnancies.A pregnancy canbe intentionally aborted in several ways. The manner selected oftendepends upon the gestational age of the embryo or fetus, whichincreases in size as the pregnancy progresses. Specific proceduresmay also be selected due to legality, regional availability, and doctoror patient preference.

This is a child aborted. I'll call the girl below "Sara." Sara couldnot protect herself while the "doctor" cut her head off with foresnips.

Sara will never learn how skip or play hopscotch. She will neverexperience her first date or the prom. Sara has been denied the right tovote, the right to freedom of speech, the right to work. All thesethings that women have worked so hard to achieve have been deniedto Sara. She has been denied all these things because her motherdenied motherhood, and the "doctor" denied Sara's personhood.

Page 4: WHAT IS ABORTION?

This first question we must ask ourselves when considering ouropinion on abortion is this: "Is something being killed?" Everyonefamiliar with biology will answer yes. The next question is "Whatis being killed?"

Every major abortion rights organization and doctor admits it is ahuman being. How then can they justify killing a human? In the 1973Roe Vs. Wade decision it was ruled that although it is a "humanbeing" in the womb, it is not a "person." This little word game hascost our society in North America over 45,000,000 lives in 30 years.

This is not the first time this word game has been played with humanlife. During the slave trade, it was acknowledged that black peoplewere human beings, but not "persons". During the Holocost, Hilteracknowledged that Jews, were human beings.

That's why he performed horrible experiments on them, but he did notacknowledge their "personhood."

Women's RightsIn the last 30 years approximately 21,500,000 women have diedviolent deaths in the United States. They have had their arms ripped

Page 5: WHAT IS ABORTION?

off, they have had their legs ripped off, they have had their heads cutoff. These women were defenseless, they could not speak out todefend themselves. They remained silent as they were brutallymurdered. These women were not fully grown. They were waiting tobe born. These women died from abortion. Most abortionists are menwho say that they are in favour of women's rights and they say theyshun violence against women. Obviously, they are not in favour of therights of women in the womb.

There have been 43,000,000 abortions in the US since Roe Vs. Wadeand statistically more than half of those were women.

It's my Body I can do what I want with itIf the unborn baby is part of the body of the mother, I can't understandwhy the doctor has to count all of the little broken off arms and legsof the baby that are sucked out of the mother to make sure none areleft inside. In fact if they leave any part of the dead baby inside themother, she could die. Half of women carrying babies have a littleboy inside them with a penis. Is that a part of her body?

The abortion industry is a multi billion dollar industry and PlannedParenthood is now exporting this industry to countries around the

Page 6: WHAT IS ABORTION?

world like a McDonald's franchise. I just attended a summit on"Population Control" in Ottawa. It is scary to think that we are nowtrying to export abortion to countries around the world the way weexport wheat. Much of this is being paid by our governments.

I believe that as Christians we are obligated to step in. The Biblemakes it clear that it is wrong to stand by as innocent blood is shed.(Deut 21:5, 7-9; Ezk 22:3-4, Is 1:15-16, Lev 18:21. ) Ruben rescuedJoseph (Gn 37:21-22), Hebrew midwives rescued baby boys from theinfanticide of Pharaoh Ex 1:17) The solders of Saul rescued Jonathanfrom murder (1 Sam 14:45), Obadiah rescued 100 prophets fromJezebel. Ester risked her life to save her people from genocide.

Today, the most dangerous place on the planet to live is notHarlem or a Pakistan terrorist ghetto. It is in a mother's womb. Itis a treacherous time in history to be an infant.

"Oh Lord give us the strength to not only experience our horror at thisholocaust but the courageously stand up and be counted and to followthe heroes who brought down the slave trade and those who savedJews from the Holocaust."

Abortion and the Feminization of Poverty

Abortion advocates claim that the right to abort unplannedpregnancies empowers women. They view unplanned children as thecause of lost education and career opportunities. Abortion, they claim,enables women to control their lives, pursue their dreams, andultimately improve their socio-economic status.

But this argument presupposes that the birth of an unplanned child hasa negative effect on women’s lives and that abortion has a positive, orat least neutral, effect. Recent evidence shows otherwise.

Page 7: WHAT IS ABORTION?

Thomas Strahan, a researcher with the Association ofInterdisciplinary Research, recently reviewed over 26 studies relatingto abortion’s impact on the socio-economic status of women.(1)

These studies show the following:

- Women who have had abortions are at greater risk ofsuffering emotional and psychological problems which mayinterfere with their ability to concentrate, make decisions,and interact with others, thereby reducing their level of jobskills and employment opportunities.

- Post-abortion women are more likely to engage in drug andalcohol abuse, often as a means of “numbing” negativefeelings stemming from the abortion. This will in turn effecttheir ability to function in the workplace and may inhibittheir ability to enter into meaningful relationships.

- Women who have had abortions are more likely to becomepregnant again and undergo additional abortions. Nearly50% of all abortions are repeat abortions. These repeatabortions do not represent “satisfied customers.” Instead,post-abortion women often seek replacement pregnancies tomake up for the aborted child, but find themselves facedwith the same social pressures which led to the firstabortion. There is also evidence that some women undergorepeat abortions as an act of “self-punishment” or as attemptto “harden” themselves to negative feelings stemming fromtheir first abortion..

- Compared to their peers, teenagers who have had oneabortion are 4 times more likely to have a subsequentabortion. Almost 20% of teen aborters have a secondabortion within a year, and 38% have a second abortionwithin 5 years.

- Women who have had abortions are more likely tosubsequently require welfare assistance, and the odds ofgoing on welfare increase with each subsequent abortion.

- Women who have repeat abortions tend to have anincreasing number of health problems and greater

Page 8: WHAT IS ABORTION?

personality disintegration, which increases the likelihood oftheir needing public assistance.

- Post-abortion women have greater difficulty establishingpermanent relationships with a male partner. They are morelikely to never marry, more likely to divorce, and morelikely to go through a long string of “unsuccessful”relationships. This inability to form a “nuclear family”reduces household income and increases the probability thatthe woman and her children will require public assistance.

- Women who have had repeat abortions are more likely todesire children and are likely to carry one or moresubsequent “replacement” pregnancies to term. This meansthat many repeat aborters end up becoming unmarriedmothers, the very fate they tried to avoid when they hadtheir first abortion. Only now, they also have to deal withpost-abortion psychological and emotional scars.

These studies lead Strahan to conclude that “the repeated utilizationof abortion appears to lead not to economic prosperity or socialwell-being, but to an increasing feminization of poverty.”

In light of the evidence, it is hard to see how abortion has served toempower women. It has not made them richer, or happier, or moresuccessful. Indeed, it has served mainly to achieve all of the oppositeeffects.

Yet abortion will continue to be defended as a “woman’s right”because it is such an important political symbol of theemancipated woman’s right to “control her own body.”

Perhaps it is time to worry less about the symbolism of legal abortionand more about its reality. Abortion does not free women. It simplyenslaves them in a new way.
