What is a Twitter Chat?
Twitter Chat’s are…
A Twitter Chat is a pre-arranged conversation that happens on Twitter, through the use of Twitter updates (called tweets), that include a predefined hashtag to link those tweets together in a virtual conversation.
Hashtag Example: #HealthyThanksgiving
Anatomy of a Twitter Chat (pt 1)
• The Host– They set the outline for the conversation, which could
include topics to be discussed or questions for the audience
• The Support Team– Has pre-assigned questions, comments, or topics to
address at the appropriate time.
Example: At 5:06p Q1 Melissa’s Produce: Q1: Is your idea of a #HealthyThanksgiving eating right or eating less?
Anatomy of a Twitter Chat (pt2)
• The Outline– Typically consists of all the important information for
the Twitter Chat to be successful. Who is doing what, at what time, contact info for the support team, and the hashtag
• The Audience– Is expected to participate in the conversation at
whatever point they find the chat (It doesn’t matter if they are late).
– Typically asks questions, offers solutions, recipe ideas, and any other comments about the specific topic.
Benefits of a Twitter Chat
• Increased exposure for the brand
• Gives us the perception of authority in the produce space
• Opportunity to share our content with a new audience
• Ability to communicate with and attract new followers – which gives us more reach for brand messaging
