WHAT IS A DENTAL VENEER?

What is a Dental Veneer?

Veneers are one of the most popular treatment options of current generation cosmetic

dentistry. Patients can make use of one veneer to restore a single tooth that may have been

fractured or discolored, or multiple teeth to create a complete makeover.

A veneer is a thin layer of material placed over a tooth, either to improve the aesthetics of a

tooth or to protect the tooth’s surface from damage. Few commonly used materials to

fabricate a veneer are composite, ceramic and dental porcelain. A composite veneer may be

directly placed (built-up in the mouth), or indirectly fabricated by a dental technician in a

dental laboratory. A ceramic veneer is a veneer milled out of a ceramic ingot in our clinic

using highly advanced 3D technology and bonded to the tooth, typically using resin cement.

In contrast, a porcelain veneer may only be indirectly fabricated in a qualified dental

technician.

Other than cosmetics, Veneers have many other functional uses. Many people have small

teeth resulting in spaces that may not be easily closed by orthodontics. Some people have

worn away the edges of their teeth resulting in a prematurely aged appearance, while others

may have malposition teeth that appear crooked. Multiple veneers can close these spaces,

lengthen teeth that have been shortened by wear, fill the black triangles between teeth caused

by gum recession, provide a uniform color, shape, and symmetry, and make the teeth appear

straight. Veneers are also recommended to strengthen worn teeth. It is also applied to yellow

teeth that won’t whiten. Thin veneers are effective options for aging patients with worn

dentition. In many cases, minimal to no tooth preparation is needed when using porcelain

veneers.

What kind of Dental Veneer material should I choose?

At Canberra Dental Crowns our Dental Veneers are either made with composite resin or high

How many visits will I need for my Dental Veneers?

Usually our dental veneers are done in pairs to best match the colour of mirroring teeth, and

sometimes up to 8 can be placed at once to produce an even level of whiteness and tooth

shape for the best looking result for your smile.

How much does a Dental Veneer cost?

At Canberra Dental Crowns we offer our veneers at an affordable cost. Our Composite
