• John Dutton is a pioneering business leader and management consultant who has delivered multimillion dollar improvements to many firms around the world.

• Most recently at Intergraph he led efforts at initiating a PMO office while managing and proposing new projects for some challenging customers as well. These efforts came to a close with a major slow down in the business.

• He also worked at North Highland where he provided management and information technology consulting services to clients and at Sabre Holdings where he led global consulting and implementation services.

CASE STUDY Problem: The FAA had outdated systems for the management and deployment of air

traffic controllers. The organization was also changing many of the business rules for managing union employees.

Sabre Airline Solutions has a suite of applications managing and scheduling airline employees.

A feasibility study had been initiated before my hiring but had run into difficulties due to the scope and complexity of the business requirements.

The requirements pointed to large scale customization requirements.

The follow-on opportunity was sized between $10-20M. Contributions: Applied Stakeholder Identification to segment business requirements.

Conducted user interviews and workshops and teleconferences to confirm/clarify requirements and solution architecture.Implemented Program and Project Management techniques throughout study and proposal.Defined more robust deliverables suitable for FAA customer.Incorporated Change Management and Quality Assurance techniques into solution design.

CASE STUDY Problem: British Airways was interested in acquiring a suite of catering solutions from

Sabre. They wanted to buy on a fixed-price and schedule basis. The initial sales team had inadequately defined the SOW and the scope of the customizations required.

Essentially, to reduce risk and get the contract signed I sent over a team of SME’s for two weeks who communicated requirements updates – those conversations were pretty interesting. The during the project we had design reviews with the customer several times a week to review and approve the customization work as quickly as possible. These two factors significantly reduced our risk.

Contributions: Intensive site visits to better understand SOW requirements and communicate them to the technology team.Implemented weekly virtual reviews with BA to confirm efforts of Agile teams.Follow-on collaborative visits to BA and Sabre (partnering for results).Virtual executive meetings to review project status and resolve issues while reducing project cost.Implemented Program and Project Management techniques throughout study and proposal.

CASE STUDY Problem: Andersen Business Consulting had recurring marketing, solution design and

delivery challenges for complex, multi-service line solutions.

Contributions: One of three initial agents assigned to solve this problem.Designed, developed and deployed Architected Solutions

• A disciplined web-based metamethodology and framework to incorporate different service lines used in marketing and delivering complex solutions to customers.

• Integrated project management, quality assurance, organization change management and risk management techniques into methodology.

• It was a web portal guide and a knowledge repository for selling and delivering solutions.

• Defined and incorporated industry landscapes, business landscapes and value mapping into methodology.

• Led 14 virtual teams to normalize services for incorporation into methodology.

• Evangelized approach globally and delivered training.

CASE STUDY Problem: Dekalb Genetics had implemented SAP and was doing road shows to help

promote SAP products and services.

Unfortunately they had major post implementation problems.

They couldn’t close the books, AP/AR was as mess, and inventories were at best uncertain.

There were people who didn’t know how to do their jobs in the context of SAP.

Contributions: I conducted an executive workshop on a Thursday afternoon with the sponsorship of the CFO to identify, organize and prioritize the problems and issues which they had with the implementation.

Upon completion of the effort I was invited to begin efforts the following Monday. I had a team in place on Tuesday and led the team for the next six months which successfully resolved these issues.

In examining the root causes of their problems were inadequate coordination across the process teams which led to poor product configuration and cutting the training budget prior to going live.
