One of Ridgefield’s cultural treasures, the Ridgefield Symphony Orchestra (RSO)

performed its debut concert on April 4, 1965 and became a fully professional ensemble in 1968. Since then, the orchestra has continuously grown in size and in the quality of its performances and attracts appreciative audiences from as far as 50-100 miles away. Performances at Richardson Auditorium feature an orchestra with 70-90 musicians, depending on the music that has been programmed. Con-certs at the Ridgefield Playhouse use a chamber-sized orchestra of 20 to 30 musi-cians. The musicians come to Ridgefield from more than 30 different communities and are well respected orchestra players throughout the greater New York and New England area.

CONFIDENCE GAMEPALACE THEATRE DANBURY | APRIL 26 | OPENING NIGHT FILM, PANEL & RECEPTIONCONNECTICUT FILM FESTIVAL APRIL 26-29 | DANBURY & BETHEL

This is not a typical, sensational Wall Street’s gone wild film, but rather a jaw dropping street level, 360-degree view of systemic malfeasance and widespread corruption. It reveals how an amalgam of Washington policy and regulatory fail-ures, compliant ratings agencies, media manipulation and fraud in the subprime mortgage market on a massive scale short-circuited Wall Street nearly destroy-ing the American Economy. As Jack Webb used to say, “just the facts ma’am” and that’s how this film plays out in a very understandable fashion for even the least knowledgeable viewer. Through the eyes of former Bear Sterns employees, shyster mortgage brokers, devastated homeowners, whistle blowers and eminent financial journalists including Bryan Burrough, Wil-liam D. Cohan and Andrew Ross Sorkin, Confidence Game reveals to the viewer that this crisis was in fact, ten years in the making. Featuring a take-no-prisoners, yet empathetic approach to story telling, we come to understand just how far reaching the tenta-cles of Bear Sterns were and how, to this day, we are all paying the price for their own personal confi-dence game that nearly destroyed the American economy.

MENDELSSOHN CONCERT BY SHERMAN CHAMBER ENSEMBLEJEWISH COMMUNITY CENTER, SHERMAN | APRIL 28

The Sherman Chamber Ensemble is pleased to present an all-Mendelssohn concert on Satur-day. On the program will be the Piano Trio in D minor, Song without Words for violin and piano, Sonata in D Major for cello and piano, and Rondo Capriccioso Op. 14, transcribed for flute and piano. Performers for this concert include Mr. Bailen on cello and his wife, flutist Susan Rotholz, who co-founded the Sherman Chamber Ensemble in 1983 and have performed in virtually every concert for the 30 years since then. Joining them will be more recent additions Margaret Kampmeier, piano, and Michael Roth, violin. Tickets for the concert, which is open to the general public, are $25 per person ($20 for students, seniors and JCCS members) and include a post-concert reception with the musicians. The Jewish Community Center is located at 9 Route 39 South near the center of Sherman. For information and reservations, call the Sherman Chamber Ensemble at 860-355-5930. Celebrating its 30th anniversary season in 2012, the Sherman Chamber Ensemble was founded in 1983 to bring world-class live classical music performance to West-ern Connecticut. Its signature summer chamber music series (to take place this year on July 6 - 7, August 10 - 11 and August 31 - September 1) has been described in The New York Times as “about as close as it gets to the Platonic ideal of a chamber music concert.” The April 28th performance at the JCCS is only the beginning of what promises to be an exciting year of music with the Sherman Chamber Ensemble. For more information, contact the Sherman Chamber Ensemble at P.O. Box 578, Sherman, CT 06784, online at www.shermanchamberensemble.org or by phone at 860-355-5930.

IN THE FOOTSTEPS OF WEIR GALLERY TALKWEIR FARM NATIONAL HISTORIC SITE, WILTON | MAY 6 Have you ever wondered what’s hidden inside the historic structures of Weir Farm National Historic Site? Here is your chance to catch a glimpse of what lies behind those locked doors. Join Weir Farm National Historic Site’s 2012 Visiting Artist, Xiomaro, as he discusses his experience photographing the Weir House, Weir Stu-dio, and Young Studio. Xiomaro was commissioned in 2011 to create a photographic record of the interiors of the buildings, in order to document the present state of the structures prior to the completion of the restoration project now underway. All three buildings are currently empty, which offered Xiomaro the chance to focus on the details of these spaces -- features that might otherwise go unnoticed in a fully furnished setting. Learn about Xiomaro’s experiences walking In the Footsteps of Weir, and view the resulting collection of photographs in the current exhibit, Weir Was Here: Secret Rooms, Doors, and Windows.

GOLDA’S BALCONYBY WILLIAM GIBSON DIRECTED BY JANE FRANOL FEATURING SONNIE OSBORNE | THEATERWORKS NEW MILFORD | JUNE 8-30

GOLDA’S BALCONY is a riveting portrait of Golda Meir, one of the most fascinating and complex women of our time. From Russian immigrant to American school-teacher to a leader of international politics as the fourth Prime Minister of Israel, this tight-knit story of war and peace opens in 1973, on the eve of the Yom Kippur War, and uses flashbacks as Golda recounts the story of her life. She describes her role as a socialist Zionist, her emigration to Palestine in 1921, the birth of her two children, and the breakup of her marriage. These details form an intriguing back-drop for a dramatic look at idealism, power, and the strength it takes to shape the destiny of a nation. Reservations can be made online at WWW.THEATREWORKS.US or by calling the box office at (860) 350-6863. TheatreWorks is an award-winning, regional theatre company located on 5 Brookside Avenue, just off Route 202 (next to the CVS), in New Milford, Conn.

NUNSENSE: THE MEGAMUSICALCO-DIRECTED BY DONALD BIRELY AND CHRISTOPHER GLADYSZ, NEW YORKMUSICALS AT RICHTER, DANBURY | JUNE 14-30 | JUNE 14TH SPECIAL DIS-COUNT PREVIEW PERFORMANCE! Five of the 19 surviving Little Sisters of Hoboken, a one-time missionary order that ran a leper colony on an island south of France, discover that their cook, Sister Julia, Child of God, accidentally killed the other fifty-two residents of the convent with her tainted vichyssoise while they were off playing bingo with a group of Maryknolls. Upon

discovering the disaster, Mother Superior had a vision in which she was told to start a greeting card company to raise funds for the burials. The greeting cards were an enormous success and, thinking there was plenty of money, the Reverend Mother bought a VCR and camcorder for the convent, leaving her with no money in the kitty to pay for the last four burials. With the deceased nuns on ice in the deep freeze, they decide to stage a variety show in the Mount Saint Helen’s School auditorium to raise the necessary amount. The entertainment that they present includes solo star turns, madcap dance routines, and an audience quiz. Musicals at Richter is now in its 28th season as the longest-running outdoor theater in Connecticut. Staged on the grounds of the Richter Arts Center in Danbury, performances take place outdoors on the weekends and under the stars at 8:30 p.m. Shows run Friday through Sunday evenings and ends Saturday, June 30. June 14th discounted preview per-formance. Other discounted performance dates: June 17, 24 and 28. Nestled in the hills of Western Connecticut, the Arts Center stage has served as the scenic backdrop for over 70 musicals produced by Musicals at Richter, as well as a professional springboard for hun-dreds of up-and-coming performers. Musicals at Richter is a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organiza-tion. For further information, visit the website at www.musicalsatrichter.org, leave a message at 203-748-6873 or e-mail [email protected].
