A B O U T�Wes Anderson writes and directs the majority of his films. �

A number of his most famous films are:�Rushmore (1998) �

The Royal Tenenbaums (2001) �Fantastic Mr. Fox (2009) �

Moonrise Kingdom (2012) �The Grand Budapest Hotel (2014) �

�Wes Anderson has a very specific and original style to his films, which

causes them to be easily recognised- making him an auteur.�He is one of my favorite directors due to his style, colour palette,

symmetry. ���

The Royal Tenenbaums is a comedy directed by Wes Anderson and co-written with Owen Wilson, who also stars in it. It is a prime example of one of the main themes

used in many of Andersons films- which is family. It features sibling rivalry, parental abandon, scandals, adultery and general family dysfunction. �

�The plot follows the story of three gifted siblings in their youth, through

adolescence and on to adulthood, where they rekindle their relationship with their father. �

�The budget was estimated at $21,000,000, with a gross of $52,353,636.�

It was nominated for an Oscar for ‘Best Screenplay Written Directly for Screen’, as well as winning a Golden Globe for ‘Best Performance by Actor in

THE GRAND BUDAPEST HOTEL�(2014) �

The Grand Budapest Hotel is directed and written by Wes Anderson, taken from the story written by him and Hugo Guinness. �

�The film is about a concierge, Gustave H, at The Grand Budapest Hotel, and his

most trusted employee and friend, the bell boy, Zero. The main plot is about the theft and recovery of famous painting. The theme of heists, is another common

theme in Andersons films, may it be a disappearance or robbery. This also features the theme of family, with the struggle to retrieve the painting which happens to be

part of a family inheritance.��

It grossed $59,073,773 at Box Office. It won four Oscars and was also nominated for four more. �

M O O N R I S E K I N G D O M �(2012) �

�Moonrise Kingdom was directed by Wes Anderson and co-written with Roman Coppola. �

�It is a love story about a young boy and girl, who don’t quite fit in with

everyone else, so they decide to run away. The entire town is turned upside down as they hunt for the missing children. �

�The budget for the film was $16,000,000 and it grossed $45,507,053 in

Box Office. It was nominated for an Oscar for Best Screenplay and also a Golden Globe for Best Motion picture, among other awards. �

A main feature of Wes Andersons films is his choice of colour palette. It is specific to the film and is carried on through out. �

�His most common colour palettes tend to be of pastel or muted tones. �

One of the aspects which is specific to Wes Andersons style is the symmetry of his shots. �

He organises the elements of the shot so the most important thing, may it be a prop or character, is center of the frame

This is used in many of Andersons establishing shots or opening scene. It tends to involve a whole scene being done in one shot, with the camera on tracks. This allows the viewer to get an understanding of the setting or location of the scene. �

It is also useful to create movement and energy making scene feel lively and more interesting. �

C A S T�Wes Anderson has a tendency to use the same cast of loyal actors in his films which he’s cultivated over his years of film making.�

With Bill Murray and Owen Wilson being in all but one film each- with Owen Wilson co-writing three films. �

Some other recurring actors are Jason Schwartzman, Adrian Brody, Luke Wilson and Waris Ahluwalia. �
