Paul has asked that we collect money over the Nativity fastin g period to be used to purchase motorcycles for Orthodox priests in Kenya. He would like to collect enough money for the diocese to cover the cost of 10 motorcycles, at a price of about $1000 each. If you can contribute, please put your gift in the special basket in the nave, and mark checks with “motorcycles for Kenya”. 3. Quilt for Silent Auction - Have you noticed the beautiful quilt in the fellowship hall? We thank you for attending St. Thomas today. If this is your first time in an

Orthodox Church, you may find the Liturgy books at the entrance of the nave helpful

for following along (just ask if you feel a little lost!). Sometimes, simply maintaining a

worshipful presence, open to the Holy Spirit, is a good way to start.

After Divine Liturgy, please join us in the back for coffee and conversation. If

Orthodoxy is new to you, you may have lots of questions! We’ll do our best to help.

During Holy Communion, non-Orthodox Christians are warmly welcome to

seek a blessing from the priest, and/or to partake of the blessed bread on the small

table — if you’d like. The Eucharist in the Orthodox Church is intended for those who

25th SUNDAY AFTER PENTECOST — Tone 8. Afterfeast of the Entry Into the Temple

After the Entrance:

Tone 8 Troparion (Resurrection) You descended from on high, O Merciful One! You accepted the three day burial to free us from our sufferings!// O Lord, our Life and Resurrection, glory to You!

Troparion Tone 4 (Entrance of the Theotokos into the Temple) Today is the prelude of the good will of God, of the preaching of the salvation of mankind. The Virgin appears in the Temple of God, in anticipation proclaiming Christ to all. Let us rejoice and sing to her:// “Rejoice, O Fulfillment of the Creator’s dispensation!”

Tone 2 Troparion (St. Thomas) O Disciple of Christ and colleague of the Apostles, Your lack of faith became a confirmation of the resurrection, For your searching hand made you believe, O holy Thomas worthy of all praise. Obtain peace for us and great mercy.

Tone 3 Troparion (Apostles) Holy Apostles Philemon, Archipus, Apphia, and Onesimus, entreat the ^merciful God to grant our souls forgiveness of transgressions!

Tone 8 Kontakion (Resurrection) By rising from the tomb, You raised the dead and resurrected Adam. Eve exults in Your Resurrection, and the world celebrates Your rising from the dead, O greatly Merciful One!

Tone 4 Kontakion (St. Thomas) The grace-filled Apostle and true servant of Christ cried out in repentance: Thou art my Lord and my God.

Glory…

Tone 2 Kontakion (Apostles) Let us praise the Apostles of Christ, who illumine the ends of the earth like all-radiant stars: glorious Philemon an dedicated Archippus, Onesimus, together with Mark and Apollos, and the all-wise Apphia. Let us cry to them: “Unceasingly pray for us all!”

now and ever…

Tone 4 Kontakion (Entrance of the Theotokos into the Temple) The most pure Temple of the Savior; the precious Chamber and Virgin; the sacred Treasure of the glory of God, is presented today to the house of the Lord. She brings with her the grace of the Spirit, therefore, the Angels of God praise her: “Truly this woman is the abode of Heaven!”

Tone 8 Prokeimenon (Resurrection) Pray and make your vows before the Lord, our God! (Ps 75/76:11) v: In Judah God is known; His name is great in Israel. (Ps 75/76:1) Tone 3 Prokeimenon (Song of the Theotokos) My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior. (Lk 1:46-47)

Epistle (NKJV): Ephesians 4:1-6 I, therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you to walk worthy of the calling with which you were called, 2 with all lowliness and gentleness, with longsuffer-ing, bearing with one another in love, 3 endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spir-it in the bond of peace. 4 There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called in one hope of your calling; 5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism; 6 one God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.

Tone 8. Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia!

v :Come, let us rejoice in the Lord! Let us make a joyful noise to God our Savior! (Ps 94/95:1) v :Let us come before His face with thanksgiving; let us make a joyful noise to Him with songs of praise! (Ps 94/95:2) v: Hearken, O daughter, and see, and incline your ear! (Ps 44/45:10)

Gospel (NKJV): Luke 12:16-21

Then He spoke a parable to them, saying: “The ground of a certain rich man yielded plentifully. 17 And he thought within himself, saying, ‘What shall I do, since I have no room to store my crops?’ 18 So he said, ‘I will do this: I will pull down my barns and build greater, and there I will store all my crops and my goods. 19 ’And I will say to my soul, “Soul, you have many goods laid up for many years; take your ease; eat, drink, and be mer-ry.” ‘ 20 But God said to him, ‘Fool! This night your soul will be required of you; then whose will those things be which you have provided?’ 21 So is he who lays up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.

Instead of “It is truly meet …,” we sing: Tone 4 The Angels beheld the Entrance of the Pure One and were amazed. How has the Virgin entered into the Holy of Holies?

Since she is a living Ark of God let no profane hand touch the Theotokos. But let the lips of believers unceasingly sing to her, praising her in joy with the Angel’s song: “Truly, you are more exalted than all, O pure Virgin!” Communion Hymn Praise the Lord from the heavens, praise Him in the highest! (Ps 148:1) I will receive the cup of salvation and call on the name of the Lord. (Ps 115/116:13) Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia!
