Mission Statement

We, the people of Saint Margaret Mary Parish in Chino, California, welcome you to our Roman Catholic Community. We are blessed to have a variety of different ethnic communities that join together on our journey towards the fulfillment of Christ’s Kingdom. It is a parish goal to provide the sacraments to the life of our community, with the source and summit of that life being the Eucharist. We are committed to the challenge of the Gospel message: to make Jesus Christ more known and more loved.

Teaching Moment:

How does the Church define the word “Typology”? The identification of persons, events, or things in the Old Testament which prefigured, and thus served as a “Type” or “Prototype” of a fulfillment in the New Testament. The Catechism of the Catholic Church Paragraph # 128 says: “The Church, as early as apostolic times, and then constantly in her Tradition, has illuminated the unity of the divine plan in the two Testaments through typology, which discerns in God’s works of the Old Covenant pre-figurations of what he accomplished in the fullness of time in the person of his incarnate Son”. A Note from the Administrator...

This summer our bulletin is focusing on the St. Margaret Mary parish staff. You’ll have a chance to see their picture, and learn a little about their ministry. Today we meet Joseph Chiuppi, the youth minister and confirmation coordinator, who works with the high school aged youth of our parish.

My wife and I at a youth event with the bishop. I am the one on the right!

Good morning. How long have you worked here at St. Margaret Mary? I have worked here at St. Margaret Mary for over seven years now. How did you get involved with this ministry? A long time ago I was asked to help with a youth retreat. During this retreat, I felt an overwhelming joy in serving the young people. Because of this experience, I became and active youth group leader volunteering many hours at a local parish is West Covina. I eventually felt called to serve on NET ministries, and this equipped me for the challenging task of bringing Christ to young people. After serving on NET, I knew I wanted to work for a parish. God gently guided me to the parish of St. Margaret Mary where I am still thankful to serve our young people and where I am joyfully impressed with the deep devotion our parishioners have for God. It is very inspiring! Is there a part of your job you especially like? I love to share the Gospel message. It is so empowering to know we have a God who is all loving and forgiving. When a young person encounters this God, and you see the change that takes place in their life, it recharges your passion for what you do. I know I am lucky to have the job I have and I thank God often for the opportunity to serve in our parish. It is a great honor to work with such great young people and parishioners. Is there something of what you do that you find especially difficult? On rare occasions I see young people that are not supported by their families. These are difficult moments for me. Teenagers are making so many tough decisions, and our youth ministry only plays a small part in the teaching and passing on of the faith to these teens. At these moments I have to surrender all my ministry work over to God and pray for those that have the greatest influence on the young people I served. Is there a special hope you have for our community at St. Margaret Mary? My special hope is that our faith community continues to foster and develop healthy family life. We are already very blessed to have so many wonderful families in our parish. In the future it would be wonderful to have more events or activities that would support these families and give struggling families the extra resources and time that they need. Thanks for what you do in our parish, and thanks for sharing yourself in this interview!
