Amnesty International Monthly Campaigns

We have written letters, signed petitions, issued urgent actions, demonstrated outside courtrooms and embassies, launched hard-hitting media campaigns and lobbied officials directly. More recently, we have embraced the opportunities offered by social media and mobile communications.

YOU AS AN INDIVIDUAL CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE.

Video: You are powerful

Does it make a difference?"Phoning the police, faxing a protest, signing a postcard - all these things make a difference because they send a clear message... I believe that the phone calls to the police in Zimbabwe during my arrest saved me from torture and rape..." Jenni Williams, WOZA

"My father, Fela Kuti, was released from prison in 1986 after Amnesty International took him on as a prisoner of conscience. So I am one of the thousands of people whose life has been directly affected by Amnesty's work." Femi Kuti

"I owe my life to Amnesty International... Now I am dedicating that life to campaigning against the death penalty and raising awareness about human rights." Hafez Ibrahim

What is Write for Rights? Once a year, Amnesty International askssupporters to send greetings cards withmessages of support to people all aroundthe world who have suffered humanrights abuses.

A card or a letter with a friendly messagecan give someone hope and make themfeel less alone. Many letters arriving atonce can also make governments andpeople pay attention to people beingtreated unfairly. That is why every cardor letter you send is important.

Governments have the power to help thepeople you’ll read about in this booklet –so let’s ask them to do something.
