Our town Nové Mesto nad

Váhom developed from a

medieval settlement

established at the

crossroad of trade routes.

The city was like other

Slovak towns under attacks

of Turks in 13th and 17th

centuries.

The earliest recordedmention

The first recorded mentiondates back to 1253, whenthe king Bela IV grantedfreedom to the townsmen fortheir loyalty in the Mongolinvasion.

The fortified Church of

Nativity of Virgin Mary,

13th century, ranks

among the most beautiful

monuments of the region.

In the years 1414 - 1423 the church was rebuilt

in Gothic style. Since 17th century its interior is

in Baroque style.
