Northbrook Presbyterian Church September 4, 2016

LIFE IN THE COMMUNITY OF FAITH Please sign and pass the Welcome Register along your row and back. Please note joys and concerns on the Prayer Request Cards and place them in the offering.

CALL TO WORSHIP Jeff Wilhelmi

One: Jesus said, "Ask, and it will be given you; seek, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened for you."

All: Lord, as we search now, let us find you. As we knock, open the door to us. Let us know you, that we may praise you;

and love you, that we may serve you.

We are glad you’re here and thankful for the opportunity to worship with you and to share the Good News of Jesus Christ.

We seek to be an open, rational and compassionate people, learning each week what it means to live the love of Jesus Christ in worship and work, in word and deed.

“Everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.” ~ John 13:35

* OPENING SONG 32—I Sing the Mighty Power of God Hymnal

PRAYER OF CONFESSION All: Oh Lord, we pray forgive our debts… or our trespasses … or our sins… as we forgive our debtors… those who have trespassed or sinned against us… And we know the implication here, Jesus: That forgiveness has a reciprocal dynamic — it ripples out to distant shores and then curves back to heal us too. We feel it more than understand it. So today, for all the debts we owe, the ways in which we have trespassed against you, the ways we’ve sinned that are public, private, large or small, we ask your forgiveness.

—Silent Prayer—

One: And for all the trespasses, wounds, and disappointments, all the debts that others owe us, let’s release them to God and pray compassion and love on those who have hurt us.

—Silent Prayer—

ASSURANCE OF PARDON

One: God’s promise is sure, Jesus’ work is complete. Let’s celebrate our love, our oneness in Christ, and our new beginnings as we share the peace of Christ with one another.

* THE PEACE As we are reconciled to God and to one another, share a sign of Christ’s peace and

love with your neighbor.

* SONG 175—Seek Ye First Hymnal

SCRIPTURE READING—Mark 10:13-16 NT p. 46

SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM—Beckett Thomas Hemberg

APOSTLE’S CREED (ECUMENICAL VERSION) I believe in God the Father Almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried; he descended to the dead. On the third day, he rose again; he ascended into heaven,

he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
