Welcome to the Fourth Grade!

The fourth grade students are in for an adventurous year of

learning!

Mission Statement

All students, with support of staff, parents, and community will be provided a safe, nurturing, and engaging learning environment that empowers them with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes to be lifelong learners and citizens of good character who are prepared to contribute to an ever-changing, global society.

VisionMary Evans students will be able to think critically and creatively, solve problems, and will learn to communicate effectively. Our students will learn to work effectively as individuals and as group members, develop self-confidence, self-discipline, and respect for others, recognize the contributions of individuals, groups and cultures in society, and demonstrate civic responsibility.

The best way to help students grow as readers and writers is for them to read!! Students will be challenged to read 20 books each semester. We will set weekly and monthly goals to help students achieve their challenge.

During the first semester, the challenge is to encourage them to read and get used to setting good reading habits. By the second semester, it will be required for students to achieve their set reading goal.

To monitor reading comprehension, students will respond to their reading after each book completed in their challenge.

Punctuality Please make sure your child is at school in the

cafeteria by 7:45.

Teachers will pick them up promptly at 7:50.

If students are eating breakfast, they need to arrive in time to finish breakfast by 7:50.

Clothing Please send your child with comfortable clothing suitable

for the weather.

With few exceptions, we have recess outdoors every day.

At times, room temperatures vary inside the classrooms. Please consider sending a light jacket or sweater that can be kept in the room.

Your child needs to wear athletic shoes on Gym days. A sticker has been placed in your child’s agenda with their gym days marked.

Water Bottles Your child is

encouraged to bring a water bottle—especially during hot weather.

Please label their water bottles with a paint pen or permanent marker.

Homework: Students will be assigned a homework packet on Monday. It will be due on Friday of the same week. Vocabulary/Spelling assignments will

be administered on Fridays.

Grading Policies• AISD policy states that grades will be

weighted as listed below:• 60% of grade is daily work• 40% of grade is tests, quizzes,

and projects• Late work (not for absence) will have 10

points deducted per day• Make-up work due to absence – for

every school day absent, the student has one school day for completion

• Conduct grade•0-4 marks = Outstanding•5-7 marks = Satisfactory•8-11 marks = Needs Improvement•12+ marks = Unsatisfactory

Report Cards

Report cards are sent home every nine weeks.

Please sign and return to the teacher. A copy will be provided for you.

Headings on Papers All 4th graders will have a

uniform heading on papers. It will be in the upper right corner with the student’s name, class number, date, and subject.

Things Parents Can Do To Help1.Help with homework and

practice multiplication facts daily.

2.Help with spelling and vocabulary as necessary for all subjects.

3.See that your child reads at least 20 minutes daily.

4.Go over graded papers carefully with student – have student explain why the answer was wrong or was it a careless mistake.

Look under “Quick Links for Parents” in the lower right hand corner of the web page.

Click on “Skyward/Family Access” Enter your Login and Password. This should have

been sent to you in an email. If you do not know it, click on “Forgot Login/Password,” and it will guide you.

These instructions assume you are using windows operating system and internet explorer as your browser.

Log onto the computer with a user that has admin. rights

1) Open internet explorer

2) Go to the website sr.allenisd.org

3) Click the "click here to obtain the client software" link

4) Click the download button

5) In the file download security box, click “run”; In the internet security box click “run”

6) Select English or another language for setup instructions.

server client – web only setup" window will open, click the next button

8) Accept to the license agreement

9) On the ready to install screen, click the next button

10) If there were no problems with the installation, you will see a message indicating the installation was successful.

11)Close internet explorer and re-open it

12)Use your network user name and password to login

13)Click on the icon labeled sr secondary desktop

14)To end the session, click on the start button, then logoff.

15) If you have problems with the install, please refer to the complete installation and troubleshooting instructions on the website. if you need further instruction.
