Room 11’s Classroom Guidelines Homework Your child’s will come home every Monday with a cover sheet. The cover sheet will have the weekly homework. I n addition, it will have any important information, dates, or updates. This is also a great communication tool f or both of us. Please SI GN the sheet and return it to us on Tuesday. We will then send it back home Tuesday night. HOMEWORK POLICY- REQUIRED NIGHTLY READING Your child will be assigned homework nightly. Checking your child’s homework f or accuracy, neatness, and completion is strongly advised. The purpose of homework is to reinforce new concepts or previously skills taught. The reading logs will go home on every Friday and should be returned the f ollowing Friday. Remember your child should be reading 20 minutes a night for 4 nights. Students must log the title, author, and parents must I NI TI AL NI GHTLY. Students will write about what they read for only Wed. or Thurs. nights. Students can complete it ahead of time or read over the weekend. They just must read 4 nights a week f or 20 minutes. Students that have earned “NO HOMEWORK PASSES” these may be used on only 1 assignment / subject. CLASSWORK COMPLETION Classwork should be completed during the school day. Occasionally incomplete tasks will be completed at recess or sent home to finish. ABSENT WORK I f your child is absent, missed assignments should be made up and returned to the teacher. Work will be sent home with their “Homework Buddy”. I f your child does not have a Homework Buddy, please come to school and pick up their work at the homework table located by the main offi ce. I t is important that the student’s make up work, so that they are not overwhelmed when they return to school.

At this time we are requesting your permission to institute a policy beginning on September 23, 2013. We are requesting your support to take away recess for incomplete homework or having his/her card flipped to yellow or red. EXAMPLE: If on Tuesday your child has not completed any assignments from Monday, they would remain in an indoor study hall environment to fulfill academic requirements. As soon as the work is completed at an acceptable level, your child may join fellow classmates for recess. (If this becomes a consistent behavior I will be contacting you to discuss other solutions and a possible conference.) PLEASE be assured that if there is a reasonable cause for your child’s lack of preparation (sickness, early dismissal, family circumstance) the policy would not be put into effect. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter. Sincerely, Mrs. Spei del l & Mrs. Ruppert Student’s Name __________________________________ I hereby give my child’s teacher(s) permission to take away (5-10 minutes) of recess to complete work that is unfinished. Also, if the student’s card has been flipped to yellow or red.
