ХРЕСТ - ЦЕ ЗНАК БОЖОЇ ЛЮБОВІ Сьогодні, схиляючи наші голови перед

Чесним Животворним Хрестом, ми признаємо, що хрест -це знак Божої любові і знаряддя жертовної смерті Господа нашого Ісуса Христа. Хрест є серцем Святого Євангелія.

Христос вмер на хресті, щоби нас грішних поєднати з Богом. Він дозволив Своє тіло прибити до хреста і вмер, щоби ми мали вічне життя. Ось тому євангелисти так детально розповідають про Христове розп’яття. Вони хочуть нам пригадати: хто ми, і що ми робимо.

Євангелисти ставлять хрест перед нашими очима, щоб пригадати, що ми спричинилися до Христової смерті. Наші гріхи, наша гордість, наше себелюбство і брак співчуття, нелюдяне поводження з нашим братом, наша нехіть змінити життя на краще, все це - бунт, гріх, який пригвоздив Христа до хресного дерева. Людські гріхи вбили Христа.

Якою повинна бути наша відповідь на любов жертвенної смерті Христа? Наша найкраща відповідь на Божу любов це - покута, чи інакше кажучи, нам треба признати провину, що ми спричинилися до Христових мук і Його смерті. Ми викручуємося, щоби лише себе оправдати. Якщо провинилися, тоді, звичайно, переносимо провину на інших. Ми звинувачуємо батьків, що нас погано виховали і не підготовили до життя у світі, в якому ми опинилися. А як

THE CROSS -A SYMBOL OF GOD’S LOVE

Today, bowing our heads before the True Life-Giving Cross, we acknowledge that the cross is a symbol of God’s love and the instrument of the

sacrificial death of Our Lord Jesus Christ. The cross lies at the center of the Holy Gospels. Christ died on the cross to unite us sinners with God. He allowed His body to be nailed to the cross and died so that we would have eternal life. That is why the evangelists speak in such detail about Christ’s crucifixion. They want us to remember who we are and what we are doing. The evangelists place the cross before our eyes in order to remind us that we are the cause of Christ’s death. Our sins, our pride, our egotism and our lack of sympathy, inhuman behavior towards our brother, our unwillingness to change our life for the better; all

this is the rebellion, the sin which nailed Christ to the cross. Mankind’s sins killed Christ.

How should we respond to the love shown by

the sacrificial death of Christ? The best response to God’s love is penance; we must acknowledge our transgression, and accept that we contributed to Christ’s suffering and death. We try to get around it, to make it seem as if it is someone else’s fault. We blame our parents for not raising us well enough to prepare us for life. And when we become parents, then we blame our children. One political party

доведеться нам бути батьками, тоді звинувачуємо дітей. Одна політична партія звинувачує іншу, один народ звинувачує інший, завжди є хтось, хто винен, що ми зблудили. Євангелисти кажуть нам не звинувачувати нікого. Не жидівська старшина розп’яла Христа, але наші гріхи. Жидівська старшина була лише знаряддям виконання хресної смерті. Наші гріхи розіп’яли Христа. Тому нам треба признати свої провини і покутувати. Найкращий спосіб, який веде нас до покути є дивитись на хрест. Нам треба впасти на коліна і промовити: ,,Хресту Твоєму покланяємося, Владико, і святеє Воскресення Твоє славимо”.

Щоби християни , прямуючи до досконалості , під час практикування самозречення, умертвлення, незневірилися і витримали в своїх постановах, Церква ставить перед нашими очима хрест, з якого ми черпаємо силу, відвагу, та щоб перемігши внутрішніх і зовнішніх ворогів нашої душі, ми могли колись увійти в царство небесне.

blames the other, one nation blames another; it is always someone else’s fault. The evangelists tell us not to blame anyone else. It was not the Jewish hierarchy, but our sins, that crucified Christ. They were just the instrument to carry out the crucifixion. We must acknowledge our sins and repent. The best way to do this is to look at the cross, fall on our knees and say: “We venerate Your cross, O Lord, and glorify Your Holy Resurrection.”

In order that Christians maintain their resolve

in the practice of self-denial and mortification, the Church places the cross before our eyes to give us the strength to overcome the internal and external enemies of our soul, so that we can one day enter the Kingdom of Heaven.

All parents whose children do not attend our parochial school and want their children to receive Solemn Holy Communion in our Cathedral in May, 2011, are encour-aged to call the rectory to register their child(ren) for classes. Annual Pilgrimage to Holy Hill October 17, 2010

Our bus to Holy Hill is quickly filling up. If you would like to participate in our parish’s annual pilgrimage, please come to the parish office in the cathedral hall beginning September 12th or to the Rectory office Monday through Friday from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm.

Tickets are $25.00 per person and must be paid for in advance. For those who are going to make this pilgrimage and would like to go to confession before the trip, there will be priests available after the 5:00 P.M. Vespers Saturday evening or from 7:00 A.M. to 8:00 A.M. Sunday morning. Departure to Holy Hill: 8:00 A.M.

Arrive Holy Hill: 10:30 A.M.

Liturgy: 11:00 A.M. Chapel of St. Therese Level 2

Lunch: In Café or bring your own and picnic

Stations of the Cross: 1:00 P.M.

Moleben: 4:00 P.M.

Departure from Holy Hill: 5:00 P.M.

Confessions are heard on Sundays during each Liturgy or by appointment.

Baptisms should be arranged through a priest at least one month prior to the date of baptism. Parents and sponsors must attend instruction prior to the baptism of their child.

Marriage: Couples planning to marry are requested to make their arrangements early, but no less than six (6) months in advance of the proposed date. Pre-marital conferences must be arranged six (6) months prior to the ceremony. At least one of the couple, or their parents should be registered participating members of St. Nicholas Cathedral for eligibility to be married in the cathedral.

Sick & Homebound: If you or a family member are confined to home and are unable to attend Liturgy either temporarily or on a continuing basis, and wish to receive communion, please notify the parish office.

Hospital Stay: If you or a family member are admitted to a hospital for any reason and wish to have a priest come to visit, please notify the parish office. Recent federal privacy laws do not allow hospitals to notify the parish if you are admitted. It is the responsibility of the patient or family to notify the parish office.

The New Star is our monthly eparchial newspaper and has information from all our parishes as well as from Ukraine. The subscription cost is only $20.00 per year and should be paid in the parish office.

Перебування в лікарні: Якщо Ви, або хтось з Вашої родини, з будь яких причин, є на лікуванні в лікарні й бажає щоб священик його відвідав, просимо повідомити про це парафіяльну канцелярію. Федеральний уряд законом про втримання таємниці (privacy law) , не дозволяє лікарній адміністрації давати знати парафії. Це є відповідальністю паціента або його родини.

"Нова Зоря" є єпархіальним місячником, що подає відомості про всі єпархіальні новини, а також новини з України. Ви можете сплатити річну передплату, що складає 20 доларів, у парафіяльній канцелярії.
