Християнський світ називає Ісуса Христа Божественним Лікарем. Під час Свого перебування на землі Він оздоровляв душі - прощав гріхи, в чудесний спосіб лікував недуги тіла, виганяв бісів з навіжених людей.

Найчастіше Христос оздоровляв сліпих, глухих та німих. Сьогоднішнє Святе Євангеліє розповідає нам про оздоровлення двох сліпих і одного німого чоловіка, опанованого злим духом. Євангелист Матей звертає нам увагу не лише на самий факт лікування людських органів, він підкреслює, що ОКО, ВУХО і УСТА є середниками, за допомо г ою я ки х ми отримуємо ВІРУ в правди Божі. Віра приходить до нас через зір, слухання і мову.

Ми, що маємо здорові очі, не можемо навіть уявити собі цього страждання, що його переносять сліпі люди. Все їхнє життя проходить у жахливій темряві. Вони не бачать краси створеного світу, не розрізняють кольорів, відстані, все сприймають через дотик.

Набагато страшнішою є духовна сліпота. Існує невидимий духовний світ і його красоту Господь дає нам пізнати за посередництвом зору нашої душі. Цим зором є наше сумління. Воно

“THE DIVINE PHYSICIAN”

The Christian world calls Jesus Christ the Divine Physician. During His sojourn on earth, Jesus healed souls by forgiving sins, miraculously cured the ailments of the body and cast out demons from those afflicted with them. Most often, Christ healed the blind, deaf and mute. Today’s Holy Gospel tells us of the healing of two blind men and a mute man, who was beset by a demon. The Evangelist Matthew directs our attention not only to the act of healing human organs; he also stresses that the EYE, EAR and MOUTH are means by which we attain FAITH in God’s Truth. Faith comes to us through sight, hearing and speech. We, who have healthy eyes, cannot even imagine the suffering of the blind. All their

life is spent in terrible darkness. They cannot see the beauty of the world, cannot differentiate colors or tell distance. They only know by touching.

Spiritual blindness is even more terrible. There exists an invisible spiritual world and God allows us to see its beauty through our spiritual sight. This sight is our conscience. It gives us the ability to see the true road to God, to eternal Happiness and Beauty. The conscience always tells us when we are about to take a misstep, to fall into sin. It can read

дає нам змогу бачити правдиву дорогу до Бога, до вічного Щастя і Краси. Сумління негайно повідомляє нас про наш хибний крок - гріх, вміє читати дороговкази до Бога - Заповіді Його. Чи здоровий наш зір духовний - сумління?

Від народження всі ми маємо слух і здібність слухати. Слово ,,чути” і слово ,,слухати” не є синонімами. Це два різні поняття. Можна ЧУТИ, але НЕ СЛУХАТИ - тобто не бути слухняним, не виконувати, не сприймати. Ми чуємо Слово Боже і дві Головні Заповіді Любові, але чи слухаємо їх?

Мова - це дар Божий, щоб прославляти Його. За допомогою мови ми спілкуємося, висловлюємо свої почуття - радість і смуток, захоплення і розчарування, надію, віру і любов. В молитві дякуємо Богу і просимо благословення для себе і ближнього. Чи такою є наша мова?

Хай кожен із нас поставить ці три запитання і відповість собі: ,,Яким є моє сумління?” ,,Чи слухаю я Слово Боже?” ,,Якою є моя мова?”

Може щось негаразд у мене і потрібно мені негайно звернутися до Божественного Лікаря?

From birth, we all have hearing and the ability to listen. The word “hear” and the word “listen” are not synonymous. It is possible to HEAR, but NOT LISTEN, that is, to be inattentive, to not fulfill and to not perceive. We hear the Word of God and the two main Commandments of Love, but do we actually follow them?

Speech is a gift of God so that we can glorify Him. Through speech we can interact, express our feelings happiness and sorrow, contentment and disappointment, hope, faith and love. In our prayers we thank God and ask His blessings upon ourselves and our neighbors. Is our speech like this?

We should ask ourselves these three questions: “How is my conscience?” “Do I heed the Word of God?” “How is my speech?”

Perhaps there is something amiss with me and I need to turn to the Divine Physician?

Cemetery Note The Parish office is aware that there is no water at the cemetery. This is due to a pipe break. We have a company working at the cemetery to correct the problem. We regret the inconvenience this has caused and are doing everything possible to correct it. We expect the work to be completed within a week depending on the severity of the break.

Venerable Nun Martyrs Olympia and Laurentia The feast day of these two Nun Martyrs beatified by Pope John Paul II, together with 25 others during his historic trip to Ukraine in 2001, was celebrated on Sunday, June 27th. Consisting of a Moleben, the blessing of icons and a reception the celebration took

place at the Khram (Shrine) built in their honor by the Saskatoon members of their religious order, the Ukrainian Sisters of St. Joseph. Presided over by His Excellency Bishop Bryan Bayda, CSsR, with assistance from other members of the Saskatoon Clergy and the Cathedral Youth Choir, the afternoon service prayerfully united scores of faithful, including Bishop Emeritus Michael Wiwchar, CSsR, in songs of gratitude and praise. The six life-sized icons, that were blessed at the onset of the celebrations were written by the hand of Sister Sophia and together with those blessed last year and a few more yet to come, will eventually be installed in the window shaped indents on the Khram’s exterior walls. At the ‘feast day‘ reception special mention was also made, and traditional greetings extended to, Bishop Bryan on the occasion of his second anniversary as the Ukrainian Catholic Eparch of Saskatoon. The ‘cult‘ of our martyrs had been further advanced, earlier in this quarter, when on Tuesday, April 27th Rt. Rev. Mitred Protopresbyter Andriy Chirovsky, visited the Khram and was presented with a relic bearing icon of Venerable Olympia and Laurentia. Father Chirovsky who is Chair of Eastern Christian Theology & Spirituality at Saint Paul University in Ottawa, as well as, Pastor of Saint Michael Ukrainian Catholic Church in Tucson, Arizona, is passionate about singing the praises of all of the Martyrs and encouraging the faithful to do likewise; and, the icon of our Sister Martyrs will surely assist him in this cause. We extol you, O Venerable Nun Martyrs Olympia and Laurentia, and we honor your precious suffering, which you endured for Christ.

Преподобні С е с т р и - М у ч е н и к и Олімпія і Лаврентія Свято цих двох монахинь які були названі блаженними мучениками папою римським Іоанном Павлом II, разом з 25 іншими, під-час його історичної поїздки в Україну в 2001 році, відзначається в неділю, 27 червня. Відпрвлено в той день молебень, свячення ікон і прийняття для гостей в Храмі, побудовано на їх честь членами іх чуну в Саскатуні, Українськими сестрами святого Йосифа. Святкована Його Преосвященством єпископ Брайаном Байдою, ЧССР, з допомогою членами Саскатунського Духовенства та молодіжним хором собору, пополудня відправа ухопила багато віруючих, разом з єпископом Михайлом Вівчаром, ЧССР, в піснях подяки і похвали.

Напочатку святкувань, посвячено шість ікон писано сестрою Софією і, разом з іконами посвячених минулого року і раньше, будуть вивішені у віконних формах на зовні храму. На прийняттю в день імянин, особливо відзначено, і традицйно вітано, також єпископа Брайана з нагоди другої річниці його побуту як Український католицький єпарх Саскатуну. Культ наших мучеників дальше розвенено ранійше, коли у вівторок, 27 квітня, Преподобний Мітрат і Протиієрей Андрій Чировський відвідав храм і був представлений реліктовою іконою у який були затримані мощі преподобних Олімпії та Лаврентії. О. Чировський є голова східно-християнської теології і духовності в Сент-Пол університеті в Оттаві, а також парох Української Католицької Церкви св. Михаїла в Тусон, Арізона. Він пристрашно любить хвалити всіх мучеників і радить вірним послідувати в цім. Ікони наших сестер мучиників допоможить йому в цій місії.

Ми оспівуємо Вас, високодостойні Сестри мученики Олімпія та Лаврентія, і ми шануємо Ваші дорогоцінні страждання, які ви пережили за Христа.

Saint Volodymyr the Great July 15

“Come, all you faithful, let us sing a spiritual song and glorify Christ, who glorified with splendor the venerable Prince Volodymyr the Great.” (Canon in the Matins of the feast) Among the great and illustrious men of the K y i v a n S t a t e , S t . Volodymyr the Great, like a sun, shines forth with immortal glory, majesty and merit. His memory is inscribed in the history of Rus-Ukraine in golden letters, not only as a powerful and wise ruler, but above all as the Baptizer, enlightener and zealous

apostle of the Christian faith. The holy faith which he accepted in the Byzantine Church became, in time, the heart and soul of our people and state, placing our nation on a solid moral foundation. It became the basis for our culture, customs and morality. Our faith has always provided great spiritual strength for our people, especially during times of national misfortune and destruction. For many long centuries they have lived by this faith and in it have found fortitude and vigor; by this same faith they continue to live today. In this lies the very great merit of St. Volodymyr the Great for he gave to our people the priceless treasure of our holy faith. He will live forever in the hearts of the people as their Baptizer, Apostle and Saint.

Пом іж в е ликими і світлими мужами нашої княжої держави святий Володимир Великий, наче с о н ц е , с я є с в о є ю невмирущою славою , величчю і заслугами. В історії Руси-України його з а п и с а н о з о л о т им и літерами не тільки як могутнього і розумного володаря, але передусім як хрестителя, просвітителя і р е в н о г о а п о с т о л а християнської віри. Свята віра, яку він прийняв у візантійському обряді, стає з часом серцем і душею нашого народу й держави. Вона стає сильною моральною основою нашого народу, основою нашої культури, звичаїв і обрядів. Вона завжди була великою моральною силою для нашого народу, передусім у дні його горя і руїни. Тією християнською вірою наш народ довгі-довгі сторіччя жив і кріпився, тією ж вірою. І в тому якраз велика заслуга свя-того Володимира Великого, що дав нашому народові цінний скарб святої віри. Він вічно житиме у серці нашого народу як його хреститель, апостол і святий.

Confessions are heard on Sundays during each Liturgy or by appointment.

Baptisms should be arranged through a priest at least one month prior to the date of baptism. Parents and sponsors must attend instruction prior to the baptism of their child.

Marriage: Couples planning to marry are requested to make their arrangements early, but no less than six (6) months in advance of the proposed date. Pre-marital conferences must be arranged six (6) months prior to the ceremony. At least one of the couple, or their parents should be registered participating members of St. Nicholas Cathedral for eligibility to be married in the cathedral.

Sick & Homebound: If you or a family member are confined to home and are unable to attend Liturgy either temporarily or on a continuing basis, and wish to receive communion, please notify the parish office.

Hospital Stay: If you or a family member are admitted to a hospital for any reason and wish to have a priest come to visit, please notify the parish office. Recent federal privacy laws do not allow hospitals to notify the parish if you are admitted. It is the responsibility of the patient or family to notify the parish office.

The New Star is our monthly eparchial newspaper and has information from all our parishes as well as from Ukraine. The subscription cost is only $20.00 per year and should be paid in the parish office.

Принаймні один з наречених, або їх батьки мають бути зареєстрованими практикуючими парафіянами катедри, щоби вінчання могло відбутися саме в катедрі св. Миколая.

Перебування в лікарні: Якщо Ви, або хтось з Вашої родини, з будь яких причин, є на лікуванні в лікарні й бажає щоб священик його відвідав, просимо повідомити про це парафіяльну канцелярію.
