Week of September 18 – September 24 Master Edition

Problem of Practice: If teachers across all disciplines consistently construct and communicate knowledge through guided inquiry using IB global contexts, then student achievement will increase.

Focus Statements: 1. On a daily basis, teachers will begin class within 30 seconds and have students in seats until the bell to release.

2. On a daily basis, teachers will model IB Learner Profile Attributes and Attitudes and embed them into their lessons.

3. On a weekly basis, teachers will incorporate technology (1:1) in order to develop 21st Century Learners (critical thinking, problem solving, information literacy, collaboration, self- direction, and/or intervention).

4. On a daily basis, teachers and students will use factual, conceptual, and debatable questions through collaboration and Cornell notes.

5. Teachers’ lessons will shift from teacher-centered to student-centered through the use of guided inquiry and IB global contexts.

Phil Herfendal hosted a pancake breakfast for all of his students for “no reason.” This was a great way

to build rapport with students! Some staff members definitely enjoyed the treats as well.

Antoinette Seiler made the staff lounge look very festive for everyone to enjoy. She wiped down

tables and made centerpieces. Thank you for creating something so special for us.

Teachers throughout the building have been testing out NearPod and different aspects of Canvas to help

increase student engagement and collaboration. The integration of technology and immediate instructional

feedback provided has allowed for very purposeful learning. It’s also been great to see teacher leaders

arise from these experience and help train others.

David Harris is pulling small, leveled groups of students during his co-teach classes. This allows him to

target students’ needs more closely and help them move toward their academic goals.

Staff members throughout the building contributed write-ups and pictures to the new district website. We

have more sections than anyone else in the district; thus proving once again that Harrison High School is

the best school!!

Miranda Mosiman is constantly on her toes keeping all the student and staff safe at Harrison. Her quick-

thinking, patience, and communication are highly valued in each situation. Thank you for taking care of all

the big and little owies.

Michele Smith and Caroline Sullivan held the first meeting of Anime Club which provides students with

creative ways to express their interests. The focus and enthusiasm of this group is amazing, even if you

need subtitles for the conversations!

Cheri Martinez presented a professional development at the district level for all administrators. Her beliefs

around enthusiasm and shared vision were inspirational to her colleagues. She also incorporated several

Learner Profile traits into her power point and praise of her peers.

Tamra Wiser worked with staff and technology to distribute laptops and hot spots to all of our students.

This is an intense process with constant questions being asked and answered. Thank you for supporting all

our staff and students with this roll out.

Tamie Hollon taught first period each day this week to model academic and behavioral expectations for out

NEP students. The students are writing paragraphs and starting a novel. Her expertise combined with her

passion for teaching students who she truly believes in is greatly appreciated. This modeling is a great way

to integrate a long-term guest teacher and ensure students stay on track.

Keith Bisaillon ran a marathon. Josea Gordon, Molly McCann, and

Chris Mason spent the weekend on a great camping trip. Maddie

Karanevich hiked a 14er. Way to lead a healthy, balanced life-style

Panthers!

The Highlights Going Above and Beyond
