History The Warren Estate located in the picturesque village of Woodham Walter has a history that can be traced back to the Roman occupation. In the Middle Ages the land was incorporated into a large Red Deer park with associated carp ponds and rabbit warrens.

These features are still evident today and are the origin of the name ‘The Warren’. Farming the land progressively increased from the early 17th century and in 1744 the then owner Thomas Fytche built the barns that now form the clubhouse.

The transformation into a golf course began in 1902 when Mr. H.W. Thomson, who had purchased the estate some years earlier, created a private nine hole course for his and his guests enjoyment. As a Scot and keen golfer, HWT planted a number of Scots pines to compliment the heather that was predominant on the estate at this time. These trees are now a notable feature of several holes on the course today.

In 1934 Mr. Thomson passed away and the estate transferred to Fred Durham Snr. who, along with his son Fred Jnr., were fanatical golfers. They enlarged the course, converted the farm buildings into a clubhouse and started a formal membership.

Modern DayThe next chapter in the history of The Warren Golf and Country Club started on the 1st June 2012 when the 325 acre estate was purchased by a group of local investors.

They are dedicated to establishing The Warren as a top golf and wedding venue. With its one kilometre tree lined drive and beautiful 18th century baronial barn, this is the ideal venue for your special day.

FormalitiesLicensed for civil ceremonies, partnerships and the renewal of marriage vows, The Warren offers a wide range of options and individual touches for your wedding day that are personally managed by our dedicated Wedding Co-ordinator.

- Receptions can be for up to 90 guests for seated dining and up to 150 guests for the evening function.

- Exclusive use of the banqueting suites.

- Reception drinks can be served outside in our beautiful rose gardens.

- Canapés are available, to suit your taste.

- You can choose from our individual packages or personalise and theme your entire wedding breakfast.

- For the more intimate wedding we can provide a quintessential English afternoon tea menu with petite sandwiches and beautiful cakes served with a selection of tea and champagne.

- Less formal wedding breakfasts can also be organised, some favourites are Hog Roasts or BBQ’s.

- Our policy is to use the best quality seasonal ingredients, sourced locally where possible.

Time To PartyThe Warren banqueting suite with its richly-beamed ceiling lit by candelabras and fairy lights, transforms into a stunning evening venue for you and your guests to party the night away. This impressive baronial barn makes this venue perfect for your evening reception.

Our team will be happy to arrange your evening function to match your exact requirements:

- We provide a wide range of evening food including, hot and cold buffets, canapés and cheese and biscuits.

- For something a little different, treat your guests to a BBQ or Hog Roast.

- Use of our elegant silver cake stand and knife, plus an easel to display the wedding table plan is included.

- Our fully stocked bar is available with a good selection of wines and champagnes.

- The barn is perfect whether you choose a DJ or a live band.

- Additional arrangements can be made, for example you and special guests could take a golf buggy ride and have photographs taken by our picturesque lake.

Winter weddings are special occasions where the entire venue is decorated with festive garlands and wreaths. Our historical and charming venue with its high ceilings with original beams is always at its most beautiful when dressed for festive weddings.

Spa & Leisure FacilitiesWarren Lodge Park, part of our estate, is set in forty-eight acres of idyllic countryside and woodland. This is the perfect place to start married life or to spend quality time with family and friends. Sit back and watch the wildlife as rabbits and squirrels run free, you may even catch sight of deer grazing on the horizon whilst you are enjoying a romantic drink in your private hot tub.

Each lodge has been furnished to a high standard. The well designed interiors are both spacious and comfortable, ideal for socialising. The generous external decking areas with outside furniture and a luxury hot tub allow you to relax and unwind.

During your stay you can enjoy a refreshing swim in our beautiful heated indoor pool, rejuvenate in the sauna or work out in our gym.

For the more active, The Warren Estate is surrounded by miles of nature trails that cover open fields, scenic woodlands and local waterways - perfect for an early morning run. For those who want to venture further afield there are national cycle routes through the Essex countryside into both the riverside town of Maldon and the City of Chelmsford, so get your helmet on and explore!

The Warren Estate is a fantastic place to spend precious leisure time with family and friends, so why not enjoy a golfing treat on one of our three high quality golf courses?

The Warren has a beautiful parkland golf course promising a challenge for any golfer, whilst Bunsay has two mature and attractive nine hole courses which will test the experienced player as well as being suitable for players new to the game.

Your party is welcome to arrive the day before your wedding and enjoy a round of golf on our beautiful course at The Warren. We can also arrange for a delicious pre-wedding celebration dinner to follow in our intimate and private dining room. A real treat for those special guests.

If you prefer, your wedding party could enjoy a couple of hours relaxing on the morning of your wedding day with a hearty breakfast and nine holes on either of our shorter golf courses at Bunsay. This is perfect for golfers of all abilities, even complete beginners, and we can supply clubs for all your guests.

We are also able to arrange a fun-filled golfing experience for the younger members of your wedding party. Our team of specialist junior golf coaches can treat your child guests to a golf coaching session filled with exciting games and competitions.
