DETAILSZellies Gum is made with 100% all natural, tooth-friendly xylitol and each piece of gum contains 1.0 gram of xylitol. Eat a piece of Zellies Gum after each meal, snack, or beverage to help neutralize acidity for a cleaner, healthier mouth.

Consume 6-10 grams of xylitol each day in 3-5 exposures for maximum dental benefit. 6.5 grams daily is sufficient to effectively reduce the number of harmful bacteria in the mouth. Good bacteria that take their place are non-adhesive and appear to be protective of teeth over the long term.

Zellie’s has always been committed to producing the purest xylitol-based gums, mints and candies available anywhere. Our supply chain is closely managed, with final production occurring in the United States. In 2014, we took our commitment one step further by eliminating glycerin and titanium dioxide, two ingredients no longer necessary in our production process.

Zellie’s products also meet strict vegan, kosher and diabetic dietary requirements. It’s all part of our promise of Pure Goodness.

Xylitol

Zellie’s mints contain 0.5 grams of xylitol in each mint. We use only non-GMO, pharmaceutical-grade xylitol tested multiple times for purity.

Natural FlavorsOur flavorings are derived from natural, non-GMO sources. Using the purest and best-tasting flavors is always our priority.

Stearic AcidStearic acid keeps xylitol from sticking to manufacturing equipment. It is one of the most common long-chain fatty acids. We source ours from non-GMO vegetable sources.

Natural Menthol(Cool Mint & Cool Fruit Mints)

Natural menthol comes from mint plants. It is used to create the breath-freshening, cooling effect in our mints.

Magnesium Stearate

Magnesium stearate aids in the com-pression of the xylitol so it holds its shape in a mint tablet form. Our magnesium stearate is sourced from vegetables and is non-GMO.

Citric Acid/Malic Acid(Cool Fruit Mints)

We use citric and malic acid in our Cool Fruit Mints to create the mouth-watering, mouth-puckering taste that makes them irresistible. Our citric and malic acid is derived from plant sources and is non-GMO. We use less than 0.5% of both of these ingredients in our Cool Fruit Mints.

Zellie’s Mints


Xylitol

Zellie’s gum contains 1.0 grams of xylitol in each piece. We use only non-GMO, pharmaceutical-grade xylitol tested multiple times for purity.


Gum ArabicWe use gum arabic to help the ingredients stick together. It is sourced from the acacia tree.

Carnauba WaxZellie’s gum is coated with carnauba wax to seal in the ingredients and protect the gum from humidity. Carnauba wax comes from the leaves of the Brazilian carnauba palm plant.

Gum Base

Zellie’s gum base is of the highest food-grade quality and meets all FDA standards. The gum base is used to hold ingredients together. There is no BHT in our gum base.

To help mix the ingredients together, we use non-GMO sunflower lecithin as an emulsifying agent. Many other gums use genetically modified soy lecithin.

SilicaSilica is a common additive in the production of foods. It is primarily used to prevent unwanted clumping.

Magnesium Stearate

Magnesium stearate aids in the compression of the xylitol so it holds its shape in a mint tablet form. Our magnesium stearate is sourced from vegetables and is non-GMO.

Cellulose Gum

Zellie’s uses non-GMO cellulose gum to help bind ingredients together. Cellulose gum is used extensively in gluten-free and reduced-fat food products.

How does it work?Unlike sugar, xylitol does not feed bacteria that produce harmful acids that cause tooth decay. Instead, xylitol actively promotes healthy teeth and gums by stimulating salivary flow, which aids in the remineralization of tooth enamel. Xylitol also reduces the levels of acid-producing bacteria that cause decay and cavities in the mouth and in saliva. Studies show 6 to 10 grams of xylitol daily, in frequent small doses, helps prevent damage from dental plaque, dry mouth and acidity.

Sounds good. Where does it come from?Not from a laboratory. Xylitol is naturally found in the fibers of many fruits and vegetables, and can be extracted from various berries, oats and mushrooms, as well as fibrous material such as corn husks, sugar cane and hardwoods. Zellie’s uses xylitol derived from sustainably harvested hardwoods and non-GMO corn husks.

Zellie’s is a family-owned producer of gums, mints and candies sweetened with 100% all-natural xylitol. Zellie’s was founded in 2005 by dentist and oral health advocate Dr. Ellie Phillips to promote the proven benefits of xylitol, a natural sweetener that helps strengthen teeth and freshen breath.



Dr. Ellie attends a National Institutes of Health symposium where evidence-based research on the efficacy of xylitol for oral health was presented. The NIH formally endorses the use of xylitol as an oral health aid.

Dr. Ellie launches a website promoting the many benefits of xylitol. Concerned about the oral health of the staff at her husband’s restaurant, Dr. Ellie starts handing out xylitol gum and mints to the employees, as well as her friends and family.

Zellie’s, Inc. was established. Dr. Ellie starts selling xylitol gum and mints online and at Lori's Natural Foods in Rochester NY.

Dr. Ellie Phillips, DDSFounder/CEO

As a young dentist in England, Dr. Ellie realized that something had to be done to improve the dental health of children and adults across the globe. For the past 35 years she has been teaching that tooth decay and gum disease are preventable, and about the great benefits of xylitol. Dr. Ellie is also a passionate believer in the connection between oral health and general health, and how good nutrition and effective mouth care can give us far more than a healthy smile. Dr. Ellie’s mother is 93 and has always been an inspiration and Zellie’s biggest advocate. Dr. Ellie has five children and de-lights in her family and her grandchildren. Her hobbies include reading biographies and learning about other cultures and their attitudes toward health.

No. Improved oral health comes from regular consumption of small amounts of xylitol at the end of each meal. Zellie’s offers delicious products that provide specific amounts of pure xylitol. Our gum contains 1 gram of xylitol, each mint contains 0.5 grams of xylitol and our Polar Bears contain 1.3 grams of xylitol. Is Zellie’s chewing gum more effective than mints?

Xylitol is a naturally occurring sweetener found in the fibers of many fruits and vegetables, including, but not limited to: various berries, corn husks, oats, and mushrooms. The Finnish name for it is koivusokeri, or birch sugar, and it was first produced in Scandinavia from xylan, a sugar found in the wood fibers of birch trees.

Xylitol is a five-carbon sugar alcohol that occurs naturally in plants. Xylitol is also naturally found in our bodies. We produce up to 15 grams of xylitol from other food sources using established energy pathways.

Xylitol is delicious and can be your own special weapon in your fight against dental disease. Best of all, it can help everyone avoid cavities and strengthen their teeth. Granular xylitol looks and tastes almost like sugar (sucrose) but with 40 percent fewer calories. As a natural sweetener, it is a great alternative to regular sugar but, unlike sugar, it is a powerful and effective tool that improves dental health. A few grams of xylitol eaten after meals and snacks will reduce the number of harmful bacteria in the mouth and also protect teeth from acidity. What is xylitol?

Bacteria absorb xylitol as they would sugar or starch. Unlike sugar or starch, xylitol does not provide bacteria with an energy source. In fact, xylitol starves harmful bacteria and also prevents them from processing other sugars, which stops their acid production.
