Trusted sharable master data is critical for strategic decision support. A definitive and single view of the master record—whether it be party of interest, product, supplier, vendor, employee or location—is essential for the ongoing efficiency of operational and analytical processes and also process-improvement initiatives.

That’s where webMethods OneData for Master Data Management (MDM) comes in.

OneData offers four solutions in one data management platform—a highly versatile and cost-effective way of implementing single or discrete data management solutions while, at the same time, providing the option to interrelate any or all four OneData solutions.

webMethods OneData is designed to manage, enrich, create and deploy any kind of shared enterprise-wide data, including:

• Master data, such as product/material-master, customer/counter-party, vendor/supplier, account and employee

• Reference data, such as enterprise hierarchies, code tables and dimensions), or technical and business metadata (terms and definitions)

Four OneData Solutions1. Multi-domain MDM OneData’s “calling card” is its open, pluggable architecture that allows the UI experience to be driven and configured by any subject data model. OneData’s “drop-in” modeling strategy provides quick time-to-value by leveraging an organization’s preexisting data modeling tools and subject domain expertise (party/product/location). OneData supports multiple MDM implementation styles, allowing organizations to choose the most effective hub deployment based on domain requirements.

2. Reference Data Management OneData’s non-restrictive architecture is ideal for modeling and harmonizing reference data. Code sets can be created and enriched against third-party validation sources, such as Dun & Bradstreet® and ACORD®. OneData’s data interchange function facilitates mapping or cross-walks between external and internal reference datasets. This is further supported by OneData’s multiple change management and versioning capabilities.

3. Hierarchy Management OneData’s hierarchy management capability is often aligned as a complimentary function within any OneData solution or use case, such as multi-domain, customer, reference data and metadata registry. Some organizations, however, use OneData exclusively for managing critical relationships. Companies have adopted OneData’s hierarchy management solution for exclusive support of chart-of-accounts and affiliation management because OneData

has no restrictions on modeling hierarchical structures. Additionally, OneData’s hierarchy management function is completely supported through OneData’s governance framework, including granular stewardship controls, change management/versioning and workflow.

4. Metadata Registry (MDR ISO11179) The need to centralize and standardize metadata continues to be a driving force across organizations and government agencies. Organizations understand that inconsistent terminology and definitions undermine the practical use of metadata. Organizations, in fact, struggle to understand the value and exact inventory of their metadata assets. webMethods OneData MDR can help.

The MDR module serves as an integrated add-on to the OneData platform. Unique in the world of metadata management, OneData MDR is the only solution that provides complete out-of-the-box support for the implementation of the ISO11179 standard, including the import of administered items, permissible values, value meanings and classification schemes.

MDR’s MetaMap feature enables organizations to link and consolidate existing metadata registry assets to propagate standards. MDR customers can use the mapping capabilities to link to external data elements and standards, such as NIEM, ACORD and CDISC.

Expect the same functionality across solutionsOneData’s four-in-one value proposition is built on the foundation of OneData’s solution-shared functionality, supporting the entire MDM life cycle:

Modeling and data acquisition Count on comprehensive integration support for existing external standards and protocols so you can easily configure connectivity with third-party data modeling tools, other data management tools, subscription data sources, databases, applications and ERP systems.

Data governance process flow OneData’s governance paradigm is a highly configurable and tightly integrated melding of:

• Model-based and rules-driven import

• Merging

• Data cleansing and matching

• Data validation

• Role-based security

• Stewardship controls

A highly collaborative, rules-driven workflow/approval process enables the creation of multiple routings and layers that is triggered by type of data change. Notifications and alerts can be externalized through corporate email, and all data changes and user actions are audited.

Trusted data deployment Once approved, trusted or gold copy data is migrated from OneData’s staging area to its release area where it can then be deployed downstream in either real-time or in scheduled jobs.

OneData is a completely browser-based and non-intrusive solution. Users can access their own business view within the MDM hub. In addition, OneData’s “trusted data everywhere” approach enables users to filter, search and report on data through portlets in third-party applications or internal and external intranets. This flexibility now extends to iPad® support.
