INTRODUCTION

• Interxion commissioned IDG Connect to conduct a survey of enterprise IT professionals (n=625).

• Respondents from: UK, France, Germany, Spain, Austria, Switzerland, Ireland, the Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark and Sweden.

• Research objective: provide insight into the current and future data centre and cloud strategies and preferred computing deployment models of medium- and large-sized enterprises (100+ employees, private sector)

RESEARCH QUESTIONS

Will enterprise cloud adoption become a reality in 2015?

Which cloud adoption model will prevail; public, private or hybrid?

What percentage of workloads would move to the cloud and which percentage will

remain in the data centre?

What will the role of corporate data centres be in the cloud era?

Will data centre outsourcing become more common?

How will on-premise and cloud-based IT infrastructure be connected?

What will cloud 2020 look like?

SUMMARY

16

IN SUMMARY

• The cloud computing era of IT is dawning, creating a new IT reality where multi-sourcing of compute resources is becoming the norm.

• Enterprise cloud adoption is accelerating, however for most companies (with legacy IT) it is a transition over time.

• The research shows that hybrid IT dominates today’s reality as well as the mid-to-long-term future.

• PaaS is becoming an increasingly important cloud adoption model enabling the business.

• Connectivity between on-premise (data centre) and off-premise (cloud) is a key requirement for acceleration of cloud adoption.

• Based on networking concerns (e.g. security, performance), many companies are bypassing the public Internet for business applications.

• Direct connect services could break these barriers of cloud adoption.

• Resulting in a 69% increase of workloads in the cloud.

• The ideal place for Enterprises to architect their Hybrid IT solutions is a colocation data centre, providing direct access to cloud access points, WAN & Internet providers, private cloud providers and Internet exchanges.
